I think I understand what Q means by their 'NEED' for symbolism.

They 'need' to showcase this because they need to 'prove' that their evil actions are righteous/just/'natural'/etc in the face of a non-confrontational public.

Sort of like a farmer saying "we keep telling the cows and sheep we're going to slaughter them but they don't stop us, we must be doing what we're supposed to do."

I also think they do this for enjoyment, because clearly they aren't getting any of this from us, and we 'bore' them as their 'sheep'.

I think it's a pre-enlightenment ideology that never really ended during or after the enlightenment era when for the first time on that large a scale the idea of 'information' became subject to individual reason, logic and evidence, not dogma, tradition, or group think.

The 'cult' persisted, but the last 3 years is the first time ever in human history that they are all finally exposed to the light.
