Let me make this easy for you.

You don't need to be in full control over all variables in your life to have "free will".

I have free will, you have free will. Sometimes my free will imposes on your free will. Some people live off of imposing their free will on others. And sometimes things that could not realistically have been foreseen happens that changes you options.

"Free will" doesn't predicate that all your choices have the exact outcome you expected.

And to answer you hyperbolic question;

No I cannot picture myself on the flipside, I wouldn't be here if I could. But that is because of the values I were raised with. As I said earlier, upbringing doesn't negate free will, it does shape your perception however.
