Democratic Mayor Ted Wheeler told demonstrators they were helping President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign during a news conference Thursday after another night of protests in Portland, Oregon, the Associated Press reported.

Protests on Thursday targeted a police precinct, where demonstrators allegedly disabled security cameras, broke windows, removed boards used to barricade the doors, stared fires and shined lasers at officers’ eyes, the AP reported. A number of civilian employees and 20 officers were inside the precinct, Portland Police Captain Tony Passadore said, the AP reported.

“When you commit arson with an accelerant in an attempt to burn down a building that is occupied by people who you have intentionally trapped inside, you are not demonstrating, you are attempting to commit murder,” Wheeler said of the attacks on the police precinct, according to the local Fox affiliate.

“Don’t think for a moment that if you are participating in this activity, you are not being a prop for the reelection campaign of Donald Trump — because you absolutely are,” Wheeler said Thursday, the AP reported. “If you don’t want to be part of that, then don’t show up.”

The Portland Anarchist Black Cross supports US-held Political Prisoners (PP), Prisoners of War (POW), and politicized Oregon prisoners.

The year of origin has been a nagging question regarding the history of the Anarchist Black Cross, also known as the Anarchist Red Cross (ARC). According to Harry Weinstein, one of the two men who began the organization, it began after his arrest in 1906. Once released, Weinstein and others provided clothing to anarchists sentenced to exile in Siberia. This was the early stages of the ARC.

Because of their support for Political Prisoners, members of the group were arrested, tortured and killed by the Tsarist regime. Membership was reason enough for arrest and imprisonment in Artvisky Prison, one of the worst hard labor jails in Siberia. ARC members and prisoners who managed to escape from prison fled from Russia creating chapters in London, New York, Chicago and other cities in Europe and North America.

During the Russian Civil War, the ARC’s name changed to the Anarchist Black Cross to avoid confusion with the International Red Cross. In the 1980’s, the ABC began to grow and new ABC groups began to emerge in North America. In the United States, the ABC name had been kept alive by a number of completely autonomous groups scattered throughout the country and had grown to support a wide variety of prison issues.

The Portland Anarchist Black Cross (PDX ABC) is a collective focused on supporting US-held Political Prisoners (PP) and Prisoners of War (POW) and opposing state repression against revolutionary social justice movements.

Additionally, Portland Anarchist Black Cross works to educate and foster self-determined prison activists currently incarcerated in the state of Oregon. Providing aid in the form of literature, resource networking, and letter writing, Portland ABC works to politicize and support those coming into the social justice movements while incarcerated.

BEIRUT: Precious wheat spilled out of disembowelled silos, mixing with soot, debris and cement: Beirut's port blast has gutted Lebanon's largest grain storage and sparked public panic over bread shortages.

The annihilation of the port in Tuesday's explosion has further strained food access for a population that relies on imports for 85 percent of what it eats.

That includes wheat to produce staple flat bread, mandatory at every Lebanese meal and now sold at the state-subsidised price of 2,000 Lebanese pounds per 900-gramme-bag.

"When we saw the silos, we panicked," said Ghassan Bou Habib, CEO of Lebanon's Wooden Bakery pastry franchise.

Some 15,000 tons of wheat, corn and barley were blasted out of the towering 55-year-old silos and a nearby mill was destroyed.

At least one ship unloading wheat during the explosion was damaged, its stocks inedible.

Officials have tried to mollify fears of shortages, saying wheat already in the country would last a month and new shipments would arrive this week at Lebanon's two other ports, Tripoli in the north and Sidon in the south.

But they lack silos, pointed out Moussa Khoury, a farming entrepreneur who ran Beirut's grain storage from 2014 to 2017.

"There's nothing like Beirut port, where grain was being unloaded from ships or pulled from the silos 24 hours a day," Khoury told AFP.

NEW DEHLI: Almost 700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, the substance that caused the mega-explosion in Lebanon, has been stuck in an Indian port since 2015, officials confirmed.

At least 153 people died and more than 5,000 were injured when 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate languishing for years in Beirut's port caused a colossal blast.

Indian authorities afterwards ordered a review of all potentially hazardous materials in its ports and were alerted to 690 tonnes of ammonium nitrate in Chennai in southern India.

Thirty-seven containers of the compound were imported from South Korea in 2015 by an Indian firm for use in fertilizers but were seized after the substance was found to be explosives-grade.

The local customs department Thursday sought to allay concerns, saying that the chemicals posed no danger and that an auction process to sell it off was under way.
