https://thehill.com/homenews/media/511056-nfl-owner-dan-snyder-files-10m-lawsuit-over-false-sex-trafficking-stories

Washington football team owner Dan Snyder filed a $10 million lawsuit on Friday against an Indian media outlet that published stories accusing the 55-year-old of participating in sex trafficking linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, according to court documents.

Snyder's legal team says the website MEAWW.com published an article suggesting that an impending media report would expose Snyder's alleged involvement in sex trafficking. The story on the website was based on anonymous Reddit posts, including one that charged "[Snyder] is getting [arrested] for sex trafficking. He was on [Jeffrey] Epstein's list too."

Another Reddit source used for the article said Snyder was considering renaming the Redskins "The Washington Epsteins."

Court documents by Snyder's legal team say the article was aggregated in "at least 22 stories which have generated over 160 million impressions."

Snyder called the allegations "utterly untrue" with no "legitimate journalistic basis whatsoever."

MEAWW has since taken down the stories.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/tlaib-repay-10800-campaign-violation

Rep. Rashida Tlaib has been ordered to repay $10,800 to her campaign committee to account for the salary she had paid herself from her campaign coffers after she had been elected to Congress in 2018.

The bipartisan House Ethics Committee found the Michigan Democrat’s violation “was one of bad timing and not ill intent." The committee ordered her to pay $10,800 of the $17,500 she received from her campaign in 2018. Congressional candidates are allowed to draw paychecks from their campaigns, but payments are only allowed during an active candidacy.

“However, because she received some of those funds, totaling $10,800, for time periods in which she was no longer a congressional candidate, those funds were inconsistent with [the campaign law's] personal use restrictions,” the committee continued.

The committee said it had reviewed more than 600 pages of documents and interviewed five witnesses to determine the nature of the payments that occurred between Nov. 16 and Dec. 1, 2018.

The committee decided unanimously to release the report but determined no further action was necessary.

Hackers Hijack Reddit Mod Accounts to Post Pro-Trump Messages

Hackers took control and defaced several large subreddits to post pro-Trump content.

Hackers took control of more than a dozen subreddits, including the popular r/space and r/food—with 17 and 19 million subscribers respectively—to post pro-Trump messages and change the design, graphics, and headers of the pages, according to multiple users who spotted the hijacked subreddits.

“Do you know what rhymes with Donald Trump? America. Greatness in America only comes from Donald Trump. Donald Trump,” read the message, which was cross posted on several subreddits. “Donald Trump (唐纳德·特朗普) is the best, greatest, premier of the peoples Republic of the United States of Ameria [sic]. Batman, was a billionaire. Do you know what Superman was too? Batman. All four were Batman. You know who else was and still IS a billionaire? Donald Trump. Donald Trump is such a good President that he is best friends to the superior China (Peoples Republic of).”

It’s unclear how hackers managed to pull off this massive coordinated hack. Reddit did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Redditors are keeping track of hijacked subreddits in this thread.

Dick gets slammed then sues

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Comedian Andy Dick has filed a lawsuit in New Orleans against the man who punched him last year outside a French Quarter nightclub.

Documents in the July 30 lawsuit were made public Thursday, The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reported.

Dick, 54, said the punch by David Hale, 47, caused “serious, permanent and disabling injuries.” He seeks compensation for medical expenses and lost wages, among other damages.

“The entire suit is ridiculous,” Hale’s attorney, Michael Kennedy, said in an emailed statement Friday to The Associated Press. Kennedy, who has denied wrongdoing by Hale, said it was “appalling” that Dick would seek lost wages during a pandemic.

Hale has maintained that Dick provoked him into hitting him by grabbing Hale’s genitals and winking at him outside the club where Dick had performed. Dick has denied he touched Hale.

On July 28, the New Orleans district attorney’s office said it was dropping prosecution of Hale because Dick had not been cooperative and had not kept in touch with prosecutors.

A district attorney spokesman, Ken Daley, said the case could be revived if Dick reestablishes contact with the district attorney’s office. Dick later said he would be willing to come to New Orleans to testify against Hale.
