They're really stretching now!

AP sources: Whitmer met with Biden as he nears VP decision

LANSING — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer traveled to Delaware last weekend to meet with Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s first known in-person session with a potential running mate as he nears a decision.

Whitmer visited Biden Sunday, according to two high-ranking Michigan Democrats who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The first-term governor of the battleground state has long been on his short list of possible running mates.

Flight records show a chartered plane left Lansing’s Capital Region International Airport for Delaware Coastal Airport at 5:33 p.m. and returned at 11:16 p.m.

The governor’s office declined to confirm or deny the trip.

“We don’t discuss her personal schedule,” spokeswoman Tiffany Brown said.

Biden’s campaign declined to comment.

Biden Orders to Remove References to Israeli Occupation in Campaign Program

August 8, 2020

US Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has ordered the removal of any reference to the Israeli occupation in his campaign program just days before it was released on July 15, Foreign Policy revealed on Thursday.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who withdrew his presidential campaign in favor of Biden, had agreed with Biden that he would include in the Democratic Party platform an assertion that Palestinians had a right to live free of foreign “occupation”, referring to Israel.

However, under pressure from pro-Israeli advocacy groups, Biden made a last-minute decision to remove any reference to the Israeli occupation, Foreign Policy reported three sources confirming.

Therefore, Biden aides asked the progressive leaders in the Democratic Party and urged them to drop their demand to declare Israel an occupying power, the magazine reported.

According to the magazine, Biden aides argued that the inclusion of the word “occupation” threatened to undermine unity within the Democratic Party.

“The question of whether to allow the text to refer to ‘occupation’ or use the phrase ‘end the occupation’ was taken to the vice president and he said ‘no’,” Jason Isaacson, chief policy and political affairs officer at the American Jewish Committee, told Foreign Policy.

“This is not an issue on which the party can bend because it would be contrary to the position of Joe Biden,” Isaacson added.

Foreign Policy noted that the retraction reflected Biden’s reluctance to reverse decades of staunch support for Israel.

It also stated that this retreat marked something of a victory for the party’s establishment, which has sought to preserve close relations with Israel, even as its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has moved increasingly close to the Republican Party and its standard-bearer, President Donald Trump.

“While many Democrats in Congress are increasingly in touch with the views of their constituencies, those at the helm, such as Biden, remain stubbornly committed to agendas that are championed by AIPAC and the rest of the old guard,” Palestinian journalist and editor of The Palestine Chronicle wrote in a recent article.

“The good news from Washington is that, despite Trump’s current support for Israel, an incremental, but lasting structural change continues to take place among Democratic Party supporters everywhere and throughout the country,” Baroud added.

U.S. Army Corrections System: Procedures for Military Executions

Try reading this document for some answers. It's from 2006, so I'm sure some of it is changed. Any death sentence is automatically appealed, I'm pretty sure, and there are only a handful on death row right now.

Military executions are by lethal injection, and there are only a few locations where this is done.

Interdashing. Found this theory:

"If one also goggles the serial number of the bond as a date, April 11, 2007, we find that Bernanke gave a speech. Possibly at 10:35 AM,( I am unsure of the time ) Bernanke says, as directly as a Federal Chairman can, that highly leveraged hedge funds are severe risk to the investors, not to the government."

Trump's mispronunciation of Yosemite brings $30K in sales to Jewish museum with 'Yo Semite' shirt

By Kaelan Deese - 08/08/20 01:24 PM EDT

President Trump's mispronunciation of the word Yosemite earned the National Museum of American Jewish History nearly $30,000 in sales of its "Yo Semite" t-shirt.

On Tuesday, the president struggled when describing the giant sequoia trees at Yosemite National Park, pronouncing the name as "yo-Semite," which prompted numerous amused reactions from users on social media.

The slip-up went viral causing a surge in sales of a camping t-shirt sold by the National Museum of American Jewish History, so much so that the shop's website crashed due to a spike in traffic.

"It just keeps gathering momentum," Kreider said. "I just keep thinking, 'Okay, this is going to be over in the next couple of hours. It'll die down,' and it doesn't. It just keeps on going, and we'll take it."

The shirt has been on sale since 2011 and reportedly only sold around 100 annually. Now, the museum reports nearly 1,500 of the shirts have sold in the last three days.

I don't understand why people think CV19 is a factor in how people will vote. Is it because of the narrative that POTUS has done a bad job on the response? How do we counter that in these states?

Four states that have seen large spikes in Covid-19 cases this summer—Florida, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina—were all lost by Hillary Clinton by roughly 5 points or less. Those states represent 81 electoral votes.

This is a math game for the Biden campaign and it needs to deploy resources judiciously. Trump beat Clinton with 306 electoral votes to her 232.

If you add in the three states where Trump won by less than 1 percent—Pennsylvania (20 electoral votes), Wisconsin (10 electoral votes) and Michigan (16 electoral votes)—any combination of them and the Covid map that nets Biden 38 electoral votes would make him the next president, as long as the rest of the map stays the same.

==Justice Department Seeks Forfeiture of Two Commercial Properties Purchased with Funds Misappropriated from PrivatBank in Ukraine

Both Properties Worth a Combined $70 Million==

Thursday, August 6, 2020

The complaints allege that Ihor Kolomoisky and Gennadiy Boholiubov, who owned PrivatBank, one of the largest banks in Ukraine, embezzled and defrauded the bank of billions of dollars. The two obtained fraudulent loans and lines of credit from approximately 2008 through 2016, when the scheme was uncovered, and the bank was nationalized by the National Bank of Ukraine. The complaints allege that they laundered a portion of the criminal proceeds using an array of shell companies’ bank accounts, primarily at PrivatBank’s Cyprus branch, before they transferred the funds to the United States. As alleged in the complaint, the loans were rarely repaid except with more fraudulently obtained loan proceeds.

As alleged in the Complaints, in the United States, associates of Kolomoisky and Bogoliubov, Mordechai Korf and Uriel Laber, operating out of offices in Miami, created a web of entities, usually under some variation of the name “Optima,” to further launder the misappropriated funds and invest them. They purchased hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate and businesses across the country, including the properties subject to forfeiture: the Louisville office tower known as PNC Plaza, and the Dallas office park known as the former CompuCom Headquarters. The buildings have a combined value of approximately $70 million.

U.S. Department of Justice accuses Kolomoisky of laundering funds from PrivatBank

07.08.2020 09:38

The U.S. Department of Justice seeks the forfeiture of two commercial properties purchased with funds misappropriated from PrivatBank in Ukraine, according to a press release posted on the agency's website.

It notes that the United States filed two civil forfeiture complaints on August 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida alleging that commercial real estate in Louisville, Kentucky, and Dallas, Texas, both acquired using funds misappropriated from PrivatBank in Ukraine, are subject to forfeiture based on violations of federal money laundering statutes.

"The complaints allege that Ihor Kolomoisky and Gennadiy Boholiubov, who owned PrivatBank, one of the largest banks in Ukraine, embezzled and defrauded the bank of billions of dollars. The two obtained fraudulent loans and lines of credit from approximately 2008 through 2016, when the scheme was uncovered, and the bank was nationalized by the National Bank of Ukraine," the statement reads.

In addition, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, the complaints allege that Kolomoisky and Boholiubov laundered a portion of the criminal proceeds using an array of shell companies' bank accounts, primarily at PrivatBank's Cyprus branch, before they transferred the funds to the United States.

"A complaint is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law," the statement reads.

On August 4, the FBI raided the Cleveland offices of a company with ties to Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky that owns several downtown buildings.
