Perceptive post. We need to follow those bars to learn if they are adulterated/counterfeit. At the price point it's at, it wouldn't take much to knock confidence in the metal off its pedestal as the safest store of wealth.
As we have no more lead mines operating in the U.S., lead might be a more secure investment. It has many more industrial uses, is cheaper, and the logistics are the same.
And coal. Buy coal. Lots and lots of coal.
