China's Central Bank Has Quietly Launched Its Own QE

Earlier this week we discussed the striking difference between virtually every western central bank balance sheet - of which the Fed's is a prime example - all of which have grown at a staggering pace over the past decades and especially since the covid crisis as central banks acquired various securities most notably Treasurys and MBS to ease monetary conditions…

.. and that of the PBOC which has been surprisingly steady because - as we explained before - China has been gradually transitioning from a quantity-based monetary policy framework to a price-based one, whereby monetary policy is primarily adjusted via quantity-based instruments such as RRR cuts.

The difference in how policies are conducted – QE purchases for the Fed and RRR cuts for the PBOC – is fundamentally the reason why we haven’t seen PBOC balance sheet behave in the same way as Fed balance sheet during the recent easing cycle.

However, the PBOC's reluctance to engage in open and explicit QE may now be over, because according to a new report, the People’s Bank of China may have quietly bought government bonds from domestic banks in July, which as Bloomberg puts it, is a rare move that has analysts puzzling over the monetary authority’s policy intentions amid a record amount of government debt issuance.

While there has been no overt change to the PBOC's policy, tracking sovereign bonds held by "other" investors - a category that includes central banks and clearing houses - showed an increase of 196.5 billion yuan to 1.78 trillion yuan ($256 billion) last month, based on data by China Central Depository & Clearing Co.

In Seattle, the highly compensated city council voted to defund their police department. In Congress, an effort led by U.S. Sens Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) pushed to defund these cities of their federal aid.

President Donald Trump indicated a willingness to review the situation. However, nobody knew exactly how much federal funding was “at stake.”

CEO Behind 'Sputnik V' Says US Waging "Major Information Warfare" Against Russian Vaccine

The global race among multiple nations to be the first to produce a coronavirus vaccine - especially the US, China, and Russia - has sparked not just competition to see who'll be first, but an information war in the wake of Moscow's announced breakthrough COVID-19 vaccine this week.

The announcement of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine, developed by Moscow's Gamaleya research institute with help from the Russian defense ministry and expected to be available to the Russian public by October almost immediately drew widespread scorn and mockery in the West based on allegations Russia is skipping large-scale clinical trials.

One Russian official told CNBC this week the US is waging "major information warfare" against the possibility of a successful Russia-produced vaccine.

Kirill Dmitriev, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund - which is backing the Sputnik V vaccine - said in comments Wednesday, "It really divided the world into those countries that think it's great news … and some of the U.S. media and some U.S. people who actually wage major information warfare on the Russian vaccine."

"We were not expecting anything else, we are not trying to convince the U.S. Our point to the world is that we have this technology, it can be available in your country in November/December if that works with your regulator … [while] people who are very skeptical will not have this vaccine and we wish them good luck in developing theirs," he added.

Dmitriev claimed further that Russia does plan on sharing its data from the vaccine with the rest of the world, also at a moment World Health Organization officals said they wil move to review the COVID-19 vaccine candidate approved by Russian regulators on Tuesday. The WHO said it will require "a rigorous safety data review" before being available for use among citizens.

Currently, a total of 165 candidate vaccines are being tested around the world, according to a WHO tally. 139 of these are still in pre-clinical evaluation, while 26 have progressed to various phases of human testing. The 6 market leaders have already reached Phase 3.

Schweizer: Harris Engaged in ‘a Massive Cover-Up’ of Alleged Clergy Sex Abuse

On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Breitbart News senior contributor and Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer stated that 2020 Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) engaged in a “massive cover-up” of alleged sexual abuse against Catholic priests.

He explained that many “law firms and lawyers and people connected to the church hierarchy” financed the Harris campaign.

Schweizer said Harris did “not well at all, particularly on very sensitive, explosive cases, including child sexual abuse.”

“Tucker, from 2004 to 2011, she was San Francisco attorney general,” he continued. “She did not prosecute a single case of sexual abuse involving Catholic Church priests. To put that in context, of the 50 largest cities in America, all 50 of them prosecuted at least one case during that time period, except for Kamala Harris. And in addition to that, she inherited, from her predecessor, Terence Hallinan, hundreds of pages of internal Catholic documents that included the names of 40 current or recent priests who had been charged by parishioners with molestation.”

“Hallinan was using those documents to build criminal cases, and he was also planning to release them after redacting the names of victims,” Schweizer added. “Kamala Harris actually deep-sixed that document and froze those documents, and those documents disappeared, much to the chagrin of victims’ groups. So, it’s a massive cover-up. And a lot of the people that financed her campaign to beat Hallinan were law firms and lawyers and people connected to the church hierarchy, who did not want that — those documents to come out.”

Donald Trump: I’m Giving Unemployed $400 a Week; Democrats Delivering Nothing

President Donald Trump on Wednesday berated Democrats for refusing to work with Republicans to boost unemployment benefits for Americans during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Democrats have abandoned the American people over the simple subject of politics,” Trump said, referring to the failed negotiations with Congressional Democrat leaders House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The president noted that through his executive order signed on Saturday, he was able to deliver an additional $400 a week to Americans on state unemployment benefits.

“That is $400 more than the Democrats have provided,” Trump said. “Remember that.”

Trump said that governors could join the federal government by adding their own additional benefits.

The president also touted his decision to defer the payroll tax for working Americans making $100,000 annually or less.

“That is a tremendous amount of money that is being supplied and given to families,” he said.

The president promised to eliminate the payroll back taxes at the end of 2020.

“When we win the election, and when I win the election, I will completely forgive all the payroll taxes,” Trump said.

'Antifa Mayor' Says of Rioters Attempting to Murder Cops: 'I Understand Why They're Angry'

Sarah Iannarone, the self-described “antifa” candidate running against Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, refused to condemn the violent antifa rioters attacking officers and threatening innocent bystanders on the streets of Portland. KGW Channel 8 Straight Talk host Laural Porter gave Iannarone, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), a softball question, asking her to condemn the violence without denouncing the protests that give birth to nightly riots. Even so, she could not bring herself to condemn the violence.

Porter noted that Police Chief Chuck Lovell wrote a New York Times op-ed expressing sympathy with Black Lives Matter protesters but denouncing the violence.

“Police Chief Lovell is asking the community to denounce the late-night protests, the smaller group of protesters who are causing damage, setting fires, throwing bricks at officers. He and other black community leaders and activists say it’s taking away from the Black Lives Matter message,” Porter said. “He cited how people broke into the Justice Center, destroyed the first-floor interior, lit fires with people inside the building, there was looting and destruction. Another night, individuals screwed the doors of the North Precinct building shut, barricaded entrances, lit fires with people inside.”

“Nearby businesses, some owned by people of color, were damaged and looted. Some protesters have shot off commercial-grade fireworks, and Wednesday night … we saw more fires set outside the East Precinct,” Porter continued. “Do you denounce this kind of behavior, separate from the larger, more peaceful protests, Sarah?”

Iannarone dodged the question.

“They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I would have to go back prior to this uprising to work on the issues that are causing these folks to be angry in the streets, working on police accountability,” she said. “And so I know that nobody controls a social movement, and the mayor really isn’t the person to quell popular protests.”

Biden Accuser Tara Reade: 'The Democratic Party Has Become an Enabler to Sexual Predators'

Now that Joe Biden has finally picked a VP, Ol’ Whatsername, it’s time for Democrats to pretend again that they care about women. All the same people who went after Sarah Palin in 2008 — “She owns a tanning bed! She consulted a witch doctor! Her womb is a clown car!” — will now spend the next three months scolding anybody who dares to criticize the female Democrat who will be the de facto president if Joe Biden survives long enough for America to vote him in. If you thought journalists and other liberals were insane up until now, you’re not going to enjoy the next 83 days.

But if Biden somehow imagined that picking a woman was going to make us all forget about the credible accusations of sexual misconduct in his past, he’s wrong as usual. Tara Reade isn’t going away, and she isn’t letting these bullying, power-hungry Dems intimidate her from speaking out.

In an exclusive interview with NewsBusters on Wednesday, Tara Reade, the woman who accused Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993, spoke out about the selection of Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate. Harris has previously said that Reade should be “heard” and that she believes other Biden accusers.

Reade told me: “Journalists should be asking her pointedly why there was a smear campaign on me and why Kamala was so aggressive and assertive with [then-Supreme Court nominee Brett] Kavanaugh and here she knows there is a credible sexual assault accusation against Senator Biden…”

She cautioned, “To approach sexual violence as a partisan issue is not only dismissive to the survivors and dangerous to the victims. It is the reason why survivors are afraid to come forward.” Still, Reade concluded, “The Democratic Party has become an enabler to sexual predators.”

The COVID-19 Chinese virus crisis has been a blessing in disguise for Biden because when he’s sitting in front of a webcam in his basement all day, he isn’t out on the campaign trail creeping on every woman and girl he can get his mitts on. But his credible accusers just won’t leave him alone. Now that he’s got a woman to run interference for him, I assume Kamala will be the one fielding any press questions about Tara Reade.

Ha ha ha, just kidding! There won’t be any press questions about Tara Reade. Reminding people about the credible accusation against Biden might dissuade people from voting for him, and none of these “journalists” want to be remembered as The Reporter Who Gave Us Trump’s Second Term.

Just like none of them will ask Harris why she accepted Biden’s offer when just a year ago she hit him with “I’m not saying you’re a racist, but you’re a racist” during one of the debates.

China's days as 'world's factory' are over, iPhone maker says

A key supplier to Apple and a dozen other tech giants plans to split its supply chain between the Chinese market and the US, declaring that China's time as factory to the world is finished because of the trade war.

Hon Hai Precision Industry chairman Young Liu said the company - also known as Foxconn - is gradually adding more capacity outside of China, the main base of production for gadgets from iPhones to Dell desktops and Nintendo Switches. The proportion outside the country is now at 30 per cent, up from 25 per cent last June.

That ratio will rise as the company - the world's biggest electronics manufacturer - moves more manufacturing to Southeast Asia and other regions to avoid escalating tariffs on Chinese-made goods headed to US markets, Liu told reporters after his company reported financial results.

"No matter if it's India, Southeast Asia or the Americas, there will be a manufacturing ecosystem in each," Liu said, adding that while China will still play a key role in Foxconn's manufacturing empire, the country's "days as the world's factory are done."

Intensifying trade tensions between Washington and Beijing have pushed device manufacturers to diversify their production bases away from China, and Liu last year said that Apple's most prized product, the iPhone, can be made outside China if needed. The two nations remain in trade talks, but Liu's comments affirm a growing expectation that the China-centric electronics supply chain will fragment over the longer term.

The Taiwanese company reported better-than-expected net income of NT$22.9 billion ($1.1 billion) for the quarter ended in June, boosted by increased demand for iPads and MacBooks. Revenue was NT$1.13 trillion, but Hon Hai warned it expects its third-quarter sales will be down by double digits relative to 2019 as Apple delays its iPhone launch this year.

US & Israel say they successfully tested ANTI-BALLISTIC missile interceptor

The Israeli Ministry of Defense has confirmed a recent test of an Arrow missile defense interceptor, partly manufactured by Boeing and developed in cooperation with the US Missile Defense Organization.

Tel Aviv issued a statement on Wednesday, confirming that the secretive airspace closures the day before were indeed a “pre-planned flight test” of the Arrow weapons system. The Israeli MOD added that an Arrow 2 interceptor was used against a Sparrow target missile.

The Arrow series of missile defense interceptors has been in Israeli service for decades, however, with Arrow 3 the most recent iteration. The Arrow 2 is a tactical system with a 90-kilometer maximum range, first tested in 1995. Officially, it can detect targets at the range of 500 kilometers, and intercept them at altitudes ranging from 10 to 50 kilometers.

The US has contributed significant funding to the development of the Arrow missile defense systems, which explains the MDO presence. Many of the system’s components are manufactured by Boeing.

Two batteries of Arrow 2 have been in service with the Israeli Defense Forces since 2002.

Israel has long argued that Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs represent an existential threat and require a military build-up. Tehran has maintained that its nuclear aspirations are purely civilian and the ballistic missiles serve to deter foreign aggression.

Israel strikes Hamas targets in Gaza amid spate of balloon-borne arson attacks

IDF says warplanes, tanks, helicopters hit terror sites after airborne devices spark over 80 fires in recent days; Gaza media says Israel bars fuel imports at Kerem Shalom crossing

Israel attacked targets in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Thursday morning in response to a spate of balloon-borne arson and explosive devices launched from the Strip into Israel in recent days.

The Israel Defense Forces said that Israeli warplanes, combat helicopters and tanks hit a number of targets belonging to the Hamas terror group.

“During the attack, military facilities of Hamas’s naval force, underground infrastructure and observation posts belonging to the Hamas terror group were attacked,” the IDF said in a statement.

“The attack was carried out in response to balloons with explosives and incendiary balloons [launched] from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory in the past week,” the statement said, adding that Israel holds Hamas responsible for all acts in and emanating from the Strip.

Dozens of balloon-borne devices were launched into southern Israel on Tuesday and Wednesday, igniting over 80 fires.

Gaza-based media said the strikes hit targets across the Gaza Strip, from Rafah in the southern part of the territory to Beit Hanoun in the north. The reports claimed the airstrikes were the most intense response by Israel in the most recent round of escalation.

Hamas observation posts were attacked close to Gaza City and Deir al-Balah in the central part of the Strip, Hamas-linked media said.
