Woman Facing More Charges In Death Of Teen Found In Basement Of South Philadelphia Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) – A woman has been charged with murder in the death of a teenager whose body was found in the basement of her South Philadelphia home earlier this year. Maddison Leidy, 26, was also charged with drug delivery resulting in death.

The counts come about seven months after police found Erin Schweikert’s badly decomposed body inside a small storage space in the basement of Leidy’s home. A cause of death for the 17-year-old has not been disclosed.

Leidy had been arrested in January and charged with abuse of corpse, obstruction, and other counts. She remains jailed without bail, and it wasn’t known Thursday if she’s retained an attorney.

Police say there were no apparent signs of trauma on her body. Investigators believe the case is tied to human trafficking.

Florida man arrested after cops find dozens of pipe bombs near strip mall

A Florida man was arrested early Thursday morning after police found and disabled more than two dozen pipe bombs near a strip mall in Boynton Beach.

Gregory Haasze, 34, reportedly admitted to placing the explosives in a grassy area to remove tree stumps. He told police he bought the explosive materials on eBay and built the devices himself, authorities said.

Officers were initially called to the scene late Wednesday night to investigate a report of a loud noise. They ended up finding several “suspicious objects” and decided to shut down traffic and evacuate some of the homes and businesses in the area out of an abundance of caution, police said in a series of Facebook posts.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, which was called to assist in the investigation, found 26 PVC pipe bombs in the grassy area and in a nearby dumpster, according to an arrest report obtained by The Sun-Sentinel.

What the Freemasons Taught the World About the Power of Secrecy

The Freemasons trace their foundation to London in 1717. The Craft, as members call it, was based on a fraternal bond created by ritual and symbol.

Whatever secrets the Masons were guarding, they made for a bewitching recruitment tool. Who could resist the promise to join an Ă©lite in possession of occult truths?

Conspiracy thinking drove Mussolini, Hitler and Franco to crush the Craft. Today, Freemasonry is banned in China, and everywhere in the Muslim world except Lebanon and Morocco. The Charter of Hamas describes Freemasonry as a “network of spies” created by the Jews to “destroy societies and promote the Zionist cause.”

A Haddonfield, N.J. man hired a hit man to kill a 14-year-old with whom he traded explicit photos , feds say

A Haddonfield man was charged Thursday with hiring a hit man to kill a 14-year-old after he was arrested for trading sexually explicit photos with the teen.

Federal prosecutors in New Jersey said that John Michael Musbach, 31, set up the murder-for-hire plot on the dark web. He allegedly paid for the hit in bitcoins worth approximately $20,000, only to later learn that the website was a scam.

Authorities described Musbach’s intended victim as a teen from New York he met online in 2015, when the victim was 13, and with whom he began trading sexually explicit photos.

Ronald McDonald House near children's hospital damaged during recent Chicago looting

A Ronald McDonald House Charity location was among the buildings damaged during looting earlier this week in Chicago, the charity says.

The Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children's Hospital, which says it offers a "sanctuary" for families and children who are at the hospital, had its windows and front door smashed overnight Monday, a charity official told local media.

"(We were) very concerned there was a lot of activity right in front of the house, people making choices that could put them at risk and put our families at risk so the staff was frightened," Lisa Mitchell, a vice president for the Ronald McDonald House Charities chapter in Chicago, told WLS-TV.

WBBM-TV reported that residents in the house were briefly placed on lock down as the chaos continued outside.

Video shows officer rescuing man in wheelchair from tracks within seconds of train barreling past

A daring rescue in California was caught on a police officer's body camera – and now that officer is being praised for risking her life to save another.

On Wednesday morning, Officer Erika Urrea of the Lodi Police Department spotted a man in a wheelchair who appeared to be stuck on railroad tracks, the police department wrote on Facebook. Urrea noticed the railroad crossing arms were coming down and a train was rapidly approaching. So, she jumped out of her patrol car and ran toward the man.

Her body camera footage – which was shared by the department on social media and has since gone viral – shows her reach the man and ask if he can stand up. She then pulls him from his wheelchair, getting him just inches from the tracks seconds before the train barrels past.

Beirut blast: US official says FBI will join investigation

Undersecretary for Political Affairs David Hale made the announcement in Lebanon

BEIRUT – The FBI will join Lebanese and other international investigators in the probe of the massive explosion at Beirut's port that killed more than 170 people, injured thousands and caused widespread destruction, a U.S. diplomat said Thursday

Lebanese authorities had invited the FBI to take part, and it is one way that Washington can help the country deal with the effects of the disaster, said U.S. Undersecretary for Political Affairs David Hale as he toured the Gemayezeh neighborhood, which was damaged by the Aug. 4 blast.

"The FBI will soon join Lebanese and international investigators at the invitation of the Lebanese in order to help answer questions that I know everyone has about the circumstances that led up to this explosion," he told reporters.
