Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health, sat down with HuffPost Live at Davos on Saturday and discussed the intersection of faith and science.

“For me, somebody who is a ‘show me the data’ kind of scientist, but also a believer [in God], I don’t see a discordance there,” Collins said. “In fact it enriches my experience, each basically harmonized with the other. It gives you a view of life that is actually quite satisfying, and not in any way in conflict.”

When comparing science and faith, Collins said each can be applied to answer different questions, and if you mix the two together you get conflict.

“It is certainly true in the United States that there is an uneasiness about certain aspects of science, particularly evolution, because it conflicts, in some people’s minds, with their sense of how we all came to be,” Collins said. “But you know, if you are a believer in God, it’s hard to imagine that God would somehow put this incontrovertible evidence in front of us about our relationship to other living organisms and expect us to disbelieve it. I mean, that doesn’t make sense at all. So as soon as you kind of get over the anxiety about the whole thing, it actually adds to your sense of awe about this amazing universe that we live in, it doesn’t subtract from it at all.”

Collins also shared how technology can benefit health care.

“Technology is driving much of the advances [in medicine],” Dr. Francis Collins said. “But… if we’re interested in human health, we’ve got to be sure the technology doesn’t run away with itself.”

“Now with the combination of technologies and the empowerment of individuals… you can start to individualize the approach each of us can take” to improving health, Dr. Collins continued.

Inside intelligence shows Chinese government wants Joe Biden to become the President of the United States because they would prefer to work with him, former Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell told Newsmax TV.

"Nancy Pelosi should care a lot more about what the Chinese are doing, especially to members of Congress," Grenell told Friday's "The Chris Salcedo Show." "This is very important. She knows this, and yet she hasn't done a very good job of digging deep into what the Chinese want.

"It's been very clear in recent reports that the Chinese want Joe Biden. That is true. They have all but admitted it. Recently, there were reports they were complimenting Joe Biden and saying they would rather work with him.

"Instead, now the Democrats were pushing this idea that somehow votes were changed or the election itself was impacted. There is no evidence of that. There is evidence that Russian propaganda, as it always is, is pushed upon our discussions, largely, if not exclusively, in our social media discussions."

Reports have shown Democrats still believe the Russians interfered with the 2016 presidential election. But Grenell said their focus needs to be on the threat China poses to this year's election.

"This has been largely ignored by the Washington, D.C. media," Grenell told host Chris Salcedo." You have to ask yourself, 'why do they continue pushing against Russian propaganda, pretending that it's Russian election interference, instead of calling it Russian propaganda, which it is – and are ignoring what the Chinese have been doing.

"Let me tell you, Nancy Pelosi has been briefed and she needs to get more active."

‘Famine of biblical proportions’ looms over humanity due to Covid-19, UN food chief warns

The Covid-19 pandemic may lead to a calamity of epic scale, with millions facing starvation worldwide, the head of the UN’s hunger-fighting body has warned.

“All the data we have, including WFP forecast that the number of people experiencing malnutrition will grow by 80 percent by the end of the year, … points to a real disaster,” David Beasley, Executive Director of the UN World Food Program (WFP), said.

The rapid increase in the number of people who can’t feed themselves will be just an immediate outcome of the pandemic, which caused a disruption of food growth and logistics worldwide. More long-term damage is bound to materialize in the years to come.

“Obviously social tensions will grow, migration will increase, conflicts will escalate and hunger will likely affect those who didn’t experience it before,” the official told the Russian news agency TASS.

WFP projections say Latin American nations face the most dramatic change in their situation, with the number of malnourished people increasing by as much as 269 percent, Beasley said. The same metric for countries in Eastern and Central Asia stands at 135 percent. Sub-Saharan Africa may see the number of their hungry almost double.

Global hunger is already high, Beasley warned. Unless bold action is taken now, “many will die, children will suffer from the consequences of malnutrition for many years, and the world will lose all the progress made in fighting hunger over the past decade,” he said.

For many of them the UN humanitarian body is the “last hope for survival”. In South Sudan 1.6 million people were added this year to the 5 million already requiring assistance. Rep. Elise Stefanik to target Biden’s ‘failed record’ in prime-time GOP convention speech: reports

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, considered by many to be a rising star in the Republican Party, will have a prime-time speaking spot next week when the GOP holds its presidential nominating convention, according to reports.

Stefanik, 36, represents the state’s 21st Congressional District, far north of New York City – a region known as the “North Country.”

She said she will use her air time to attack what she described as Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s “47-year failed record of far-left policies.”

Her remarks also will include a defense of what she called President Trump’s “record of results,” the Albany Times Union reported. Stefanik announced her selection to speak at the convention in a Twitter message on Friday.

“Honored to be invited to speak by @realDonaldTrump at #RNCConvention #RNC2020 next week,” she wrote.

“It’s a great opportunity for the North Country to have a national audience,” she added, using a quote she gave to the Daily Gazette of Schenectady, N.Y.

“The planning for the convention, given how unprecedented this year has been, has been updated throughout given the challenges,” Stefanik told the newspaper in a phone interview, referring to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The GOP convention was initially scheduled to be held in Charlotte, N.C., but concerns over the virus prompted the party to plan a split between North Carolina and Jacksonville, Fla.

Now further logistical updates will have most speakers, including President Trump, addressing the nation from Washington, the Times Union reported.
