Did Obama pardon a terrorist and a traitor, as Katie Pavlich said?

Following news that President Donald Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio, an Arizona county sheriff who was convicted for criminal contempt when he refused to follow a court order to stop profiling Latinos, a former foreign policy adviser to Barack Obama decried Trump’s pardon.

"Your boss pardoned a traitor who gave U.S. enemies state secrets, he also pardoned a terrorist who killed Americans," Pavlich replied in a tweet that was shared over 24,700 times as of Aug. 29, 2017. Trump retweeted it.

Lopez Rivera helped lead the Armed Forces of National Liberation, a Puerto Rican nationalist movement. The group’s most famous bombing, in 1975, resulted in four deaths, although no one was charged with carrying it out. He received a 55-year sentence for seditious conspiracy, attempted robbery, explosives and vehicle theft that was extended 15 years after conspiracy to escape.

Lopez Rivera was the last remaining member of the Armed Forces of National Liberation still in prison. In 1999, he rejected President Bill Clinton’s conditional clemency offer. Obama shortened his sentence to 36 years.

What was Obama thinking, however, when he ordered the release of Oscar Lopez Rivera? During the 1970s, Lopez Rivera headed a Chicago-based cell of the Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN), which waged a futile but violent struggle to win Puerto Rican independence.

The FALN claimed responsibility for more than 120 bombings between 1974 and 1983 in a wave of senseless destruction that killed six and injured dozens. In 1981, a federal court in Chicago sentenced Lopez Rivera, then 37, to 55 years for seditious conspiracy, armed robbery, interstate transportation of firearms and conspiracy to transport explosives with intent to destroy government property.

Pompeo finds himself under investigation after speaking at Republican convention from Israel

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s decision to record a speech for the Republican National Convention from Jerusalem has angered Democrats and the US foreign policy establishment, who are calling it unethical and maybe illegal.

Pompeo is currently on a tour of the Middle East. He left Israel for Sudan on Tuesday morning, but not before he recorded a message from Jerusalem that is scheduled to be shown at the Republican party convention later in the day. The message is supposed to be in his “personal capacity” but the Democrats and foreign policy think-tanks in Washington, DC aren’t buying it.

“He doesn’t have a personal capacity,” Council on Foreign Relations president Richard Haass told MSNBC, adding that “there’s no reason to politicize American foreign policy to this degree.”

Florida Democrat says she voted AGAINST child sex doll ban by MISTAKE

When Florida’s legislature voted to ban child sex dolls, one Democrat puzzlingly went back and changed her vote to oppose the ban. However, now she says her vote against banning the perverted playthings was cast in error.

Florida’s State House voted in 2019 to make selling or possessing “an obscene child-like sex doll” a third-degree felony. The measure passed Florida’s House and Senate unanimously and was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis shortly afterwards, but in the meantime, Democrat Rep. Margaret Good logged into a legislature portal and switched her vote from a “yes” to a “no.”

US AFRICOM Conducts Airstrike Targeting Senior Leader of al-Shabaab in Somalia

US Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced on Tuesday it had carried out an airstrike against a senior leader of the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab.

According to a news release, AFRICOM carried out an airstrike near the southern Somali town of Saakow, in Somalia's Middle Juba region, which it said was believed to have killed one terrorist.

The Germany-based command announced just five days earlier another airstrike targeting another member of al-Shabaab alleged to have been making explosives to be placed by roadsides. That strike was assessed not to have killed any civilians, just as the Tuesday attack was.

US suspends military support to Mali after coup d’état

The United States has suspended all cooperation with Mali’s military following the overthrow of the Malian president by army officers, the U.S. envoy to West Africa’s Sahel region said on Friday. This comes despite thousands of Malians celebrating the overthrow in the streets of the capital of Bamako.

U.S. envoy J. Peter Pham told the press that the U.S. condemns the overthrow of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita. Yet he specified that a decision on whether to formally designate the actions as a coup had to go through a legal review.

“Let me say categorically there is no further training or support of Malian armed forces full-stop. We have halted everything until such time as we can clarify the situation,” Pham said to the media.

Pham’s comments are important since if Washington were to officially designate Keita’s overthrow as a coup, that could result in a total cut-off of direct support to the Malian government. A Pentagon spokesperson referred on Friday to the removal of Keita as an “act of mutiny.”

The U.S regularly trains troops and officers of the Malian military, including some of the officers involved in the coup against President Keita.

But the more important factor at play here is the intelligence support that the U.S. furnishes the French-led coalition, which includes Mali, in the ongoing and bloody fight against Islamic jihadists. Most of the American support stems from neighboring Niger where the U.S. operates drones from Air Base 201.

China released the coronavirus sometime in late 2019. By early March China was pushing countries around the globe to put in place economic shutdowns similar to what the CCP did in Wuhan. They clearly wanted the world to suffer economically from the virus.

One individual on Twitter put together a lengthy Twitter thread outlining the efforts China took to ensure the rest of the world would participate in shutdowns like China put in place in Hubei Province.
