>how do they know?

NOAA plug real weather data from satellites into a supacomputer that runs a physics simulation based on the rules of thermodynamics, fluid motion etc to produce a prediction/model.

Pretty cool stuff if you're a weather nerd. Like me.

GFS got an upgrade recently and the European's have a very accurate model called ECMWF.

That P-3 that was flying around in the storm was probably taking soundings to help scientistians better predict the path/intensity of the hurricane.

Wat?

Dont understand how you conclude that real atmospheric pressure/temperature data is garbage.

These models are amazingly accurate.

The alternative is to go back to 1940 and live without any idea of how the weather will be tomorrow.

Unless you're running your own world wide physics simulation?

The whole world isn't against you…paranoid guy.

24hrs ago (and more) GFS predicted it crossing the coast just east of Port Arthur at about 1 or 2am.

And here we are 24 hrs later, Laura is making landfall just east of Port Arthur at about 1:30am.

How is that not accurate?

That coastline is uninhabited except for a few refineries, beach shacks and trailer parks. It couldn't have struck at a better spot.

Having said that…sorry to anyone in the way.

Attached pic probably no longer exists.
