Swift Boat ad guru, top GOP donors launch new pro-Trump super PAC to counter Biden air attacks (1 of 2)

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth was an effort in 2004 to discredit John Kerry's claims about his military service in the Vietnam War.

Top Republican donors are launching a new super PAC to ramp up the advertising effort on behalf of President Trump. The effort is being led by Chris LaCivita, the mind behind Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the effort to undermine 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's stories about his time in the Vietnam War. The new organization, Preserve America, will spend an initial $30 million on an immediate advertising blitz to counter an onslaught of ads from the Biden camp. Politico reports that PAC organizers expect the support of a wide array of GOP megadonors, including Sheldon Adelson and Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus. Trump is now getting massively outspent by the Biden campaign on TV ads. Advertising Analytics, a media tracking firm, reported that Trump was outspent 8-to-1 this month in Wisconsin and 3-to1 in Florida, both battleground states.

Preserve America will air its first commercials Tuesday in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The ads will initially focus on the president's renewed law-and-order platform, amid the social justice protests of recent months that have often turned violent. Some of the ads will feature direct-to-camera testimonials from families of slain law enforcement officers and children killed by gang violence. "Joe Biden is not going to take a stand. He can't do the tough things, he's too worried about popular opinion. That's his character," says John Gillis, a retired L.A. police lieutenant whose daughter was murdered by a gang member. "If we don't go with the president we have now, I think we're really in trouble as a nation," he continues.

LaCivita, who has worked in Republican politics for 30 years, said of the new PAC's efforts: "The radical left-wing mob is trying to destroy our country from within, and Joe Biden is too weak to stop them. It's a concern shared by a growing number of Americans, and we intend to spread their message far and wide over the coming months." In the final weeks of the 2016 campaign, a similar pro-Trump PAC — Future45 — was launched, to spend millions of last-minute dollars on behalf of the GOP candidate's White House bid.

Man charged with directing threatening messages to Devin Nunes' wife

The congressman's office reportedly said that the man directed inappropriate and menacing communications at Elizabeth Nunes and her children.

A criminal complaint has been filed against a man for allegedly directing inappropriate and threatening messages at Elizabeth Nunes, the spouse of California Rep. Devin Nunes who serves as House Intelligence Committee ranking member. William Joseph Burden has been accused of "unlawfully, and with intent to annoy" contacting the congressman's wife—the filing mentions "obscene language" and "threat to inflict injury." The Daily Wire reported that the congressman's office said that the man directed inappropriate and menacing communications at Elizabeth and her children.

"Nunes’ office, however, told The Daily Wire that Burden sent a series of threatening and lewd communications to Elizabeth aimed at her and her children. At the same time, similar threats were sent to the school where Elizabeth teaches third grade. Nunes’ office said it hopes the FBI can determine whether Burden was responsible for both sets of messages or if he was working with someone else," the Daily Wire reported. While the criminal complaint was filed, Burden was not arrested because of reasons connected to COVID-19, but he was ordered to appear in court, according to the outlet.

Originally launched in 2011, the MSEP has expanded to include over 440 partners companies working to hire military spouses, including 3M, Allstate, and Amazon.

The Pentagon is delivering good news, and good jobs, to military spouses. The Defense Department has announced that 175,000 military spouses have been hired through the Military Spouse Employment Partnership. Originally launched in 2011, the MSEP has expanded to include over 440 partners companies working to hire military spouses. Partners include 3M, Allstate, and Amazon. A complete list of partner organizations is available on the MSEP website . The partnership "provides personalized career coaching and support to military spouses at all levels of their professional lives, from considering early educational goals, to thriving in managerial or entrepreneurial roles." The program also connects participants to job openings around the world, which now include some teleworking opportunities.

At last year's MSEP Induction Ceremony, Second Lady Karen Pence remarked on the sacrifices military spouses make in their day-to-day lives, acknowledging that "for all of the sacrifice" made by military spouses "the right thing for us to do" is help them further their careers. She also pointed out that businesses that hire military spouses "benefit from their tremendous experience and skills." Defense Secretary Mark Esper praised the MSEP program, saying it "benefits our military as a whole,"''' as well as the stability and well-being of the military families themselves. Military spouses interested in the employment partnership can contact Military OneSource at 800-342-9647 to be connected with a career coach.

Four little-noticed trends that suggest Trump could have an edge in November

Do the polls imply a Biden wave on November 3? Or are we seeing a repeat of 2016 when almost nobody predicted Trump would — or even could — win? There are four little-discussed trends that worry Biden supporters.

Almost all recent national polling has showed President Trump consistently behind Joe Biden. According to RealClearPolitics, which uses averages of released polls, Biden remains up in the national polls, the battleground states, and even the betting odds. The current electoral count at RealClearPolitics stands at 115 for Trump, 212 for Biden and 211 tossups, with 270 votes needed to win. Do these statistics imply a Biden wave on Nov. 3? Or are we seeing a repeat of 2016 when almost nobody predicted Trump would — or even could — win? There are four little-discussed trends that worry Biden supporters:

1. Betting Odds: Gamblers are giving Biden the edge over Trump: 50.7% to 48.3%. But a look at the trend line shows a large decline for Biden and a comeback for Trump from just 30 days ago. On Aug. 1, the odds were 61% for Biden and 36.4% for Trump.

2. Top Battleground States: With the exception of North Carolina, which is a virtual tie, the RealClearPolitics average shows Biden ahead in every other key battleground state. When averaged together, Biden is up over Trump 48% to 45.3% in six states: Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Arizona. The concern for the Biden camp comes with a comparison to 2016. Although Trump is on the losing end right now, his position is actually slightly ahead of where he was in the battleground states in 2016. Explained another way: Hillary Clinton was beating Trump more in the battleground states in 2016 than Joe Biden is now — and we know Trump actually won in 2016. So does the current trend imply an even larger Trump win?

3. Total Approval: Judging by the news coverage and social media, it would be easy to conclude that Trump is one of the most unpopular presidents of all time. However, Rasmussen Reports, the only polling organization that publishes Trump's job approval ratings on a daily basis, finds the 45th president is not nearly as unpopular as it may seem. His total approval among likely voters frequently bests that of President Obama at the same point in his presidency. All of the high marks since April 2018 have been set by Trump (compared to Obama). On Sept. 24, 2019 Trump's total approval hit 53% compared to Obama's 44% on Sept. 24, 2011.

4. Favorability Ratings: For the past year, Biden has, without exception, bested Trump in favorability ratings. Right now, Biden is significantly ahead of Trump, by 13.2 points. The concern for the Biden team comes with a comparison to 2016, when Hillary Clinton was, likewise, ahead of Trump every single day — but often by a bigger margin. And Trump won, in the end. RealClearPolitics tracking shows Trump has spent most of the past year in a better position than he was in 2016 (signified by red in the graph).

Even the most confident pundits appear to be hesitant to predict a firm outcome, based on the numbers, this time around. It's hard to disagree with one takeaway: With the election a little more than two months away, it's still anybody’s game.

Suspect In Fatal Portland Shooting Has Pending Gun Charges, Expressed Support For Antifa

Portland police are reportedly investigating a self-identified Antifa member in connection with the shooting death of a Patriot Prayer group member at a Black Lives Matter protest on Saturday. The Oregonian and Wall Street Journal report that police are investigating Michael Forest Reinoehl over the shooting. Portland police have declined comment on the investigation, but Oregon court records show that Reinoehl has been charged twice since June with illegal possession of a loaded firearm. “I am 100% ANTIFA all the way!” Reinoehl declared in a June 16 post on Instagram.

Portland police are investigating whether a self-identified member of Antifa with two pending firearms charges was involved in the fatal shooting of a Trump supporter at a Black Lives Matter event on Saturday, one of his family members told reporters. The Oregonian reported that Michael Forest Reinoehl, 48, is a suspect in the shooting death of Jay Bishop, a member of Patriot Prayer, a conservative organization that has appeared at protests in the Portland area. The newspaper reported the Reinoehl’s sister identified him in photographs shown to her by police officers investigating the shooting. The Wall Street Journal reported that a law enforcement official said that Reinoehl is a person of interest in the case. Reinoehl has been charged twice in recent months with illegal possession of a loaded firearm, including at a Black Lives Matter protest in Portland last month. He was issued a citation but not arrested at the time, a spokesman for the Multnomah County district attorney’s office told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Bishop died Saturday after he was shot in the chest shortly before 9:00 p.m. local time in downtown Portland. Patriot Prayer members were traveling in a caravan of Trump supporters through the city when they clashed with Black Lives Matter protesters. The Portland police department declined the DCNF’s request comment on whether Reinoehl is a suspect in Bishop’s death. Reinoehl has a lengthy criminal record and has expressed support for the Black Lives Matter movement and Antifa. “I am 100% ANTIFA all the way!” Reinoehl wrote in a post on Instagram on June 16. “We do not want violence but we will not run from it either!” Reinoehl, who lists himself on social media as a snowboard instructor, also compared the protests to war, and said that “like all wars there will be casualties.”

Oregon court records show Reinoehl was charged on June 8 with illegal firearm possession, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence and reckless driving. According to local news reports, Reinoehl was clocked at 111-mph while drag racing his son on Interstate 84. Police found alcohol and pills in Reinoehl’s vehicle, as well as a loaded Glock handgun. According to the news report, Reinoehl did not have a concealed handgun license. Reinoehl’s 11-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle, leading to the reckless endangerment charge. Court filings show that a warrant was issued for Reinoehl’s arrest after he failed to appear for arraignment on July 8. Reinoehl was cited again on July 5 with possession of a loaded firearm, resisting arrest, and interfering with police activity. All of the charges were misdemeanors. According to The Oregonian, Reinoehl was found with the weapon at a Black Lives Matter protest in Portland at 2:00 a.m. on July 5. Court filings show that the judge handling the case issued a “no complaint” ruling. A spokesman for the Multnomah County district attorney declined comment on whether Reinoehl is a suspect in Bishop’s shooting death. But he said that Reinoehl was given a citation — and not arrested — following the incident last month.

Brent Weisberg, the spokesman for the district attorney, said that Reinoehl’s case remains open, but that arraignments in cases where defendants are not in police custody have been put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The majority of cases we received as a citation in lieu of booking, including this case, remain pending review,” Weisberg told the DCNF. “We have neither rejected nor declined prosecution on this case. This incident from July 5, 2020 remains an ongoing investigation.” Portland has for several years been a flashpoint for clashes between Antifa supporters and right-wing groups such as Patriot Prayer, which was founded by activist Joey Gibson. Tensions have escalated in recent months following the deaths Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, who were killed by police officers earlier this year.
