I took my parents to the DMV in 2018 to get CA Real ID cards, as they live with me. They both have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and lost their Drivers Licenses. I had both their old licenses with me to prove ID.
My sister has POA and gets their mail at her PO Box for her home in the mountains. No direct mail up there.
DMV wanted a copy of their marriage certificate as my moms name was not original to her birth. They’ve been married over 60 years and She showed it to them when her name was changed back then. Not good enough now. They needed to see it again. Don’t have it.
Best part, both parents had to show they received mail where they live. I explained that they live with me, but their mail goes to my sis as she has POA. And it goes to a PO Box as that is the only way to get mail in the mountains. Not acceptable to them. Had to be an actual address.
2 different DMV Employees told me to go make up a rental agreement between my parents and myself, then bring it back and that would work. I told them that would be a lie as they don’t rent from me. They said it didn’t matter, that is the work-around to the rule.
How many people have they told to commit fraud to get their CA Real ID cards?
