2 German men get lengthy sentences in big child abuse case

 

BERLIN — A court in western Germany convicted two 39-year-old men Friday of serious sexual abuse of children in a case linked to a large network of suspects uncovered last year.

 

The regional court in Moenchengladbach sentenced a man from nearby Krefeld to 13 years and six months in prison for raping his daughter and the niece of the other defendant, who was sentenced to 14 years and six months.

 

The men, whose lawyers indicated they would appeal the verdicts, weren't identified for privacy reasons.

 

Police said officers stumbled across images the men had produced and shared online after raiding the home of another man from the western town Bergisch Gladbach.

 

The discovery of so-called Bergisch Gladbach network, which investigators said may have involved thousands of people, recently prompted the German government to announce it would toughen laws against child sex abuse and child abuse images.

Nassau Man Accused Of Trafficking Girl For Sex

 

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — A Baldwin man was arraigned this week on charges of trafficking a teenager across Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn for sex.

 

Jordan McCormick, 29, of Baldwin, was arraigned on three counts of sex trafficking, one count of second-degree promoting prostitution and one count of third-degree promoting prostitution. Bail was set at $500,000 bond or $250,000 cash. He is due back in court Sept. 18.

 

"For nearly a year, Jordan McCormick allegedly drugged and physically abused a young woman in order to sell her for sex for his own profit," said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas in a statement. "Sex traffickers intentionally target vulnerable young people by luring them with false promises of safety, security and a feeling of belonging. My office is committed to holding defendants like Jordan McCormick accountable for their exploitative crimes."
