Strzok ordered the closing of the Flynn investigation at the end of 2016, and a closing report. That report (Closing Memo) was released in May.
Barnett was the author. BUT on January 4, 2017, at 2.21 PM Strzok ordered Barnett to keep the case, that Flynn was compromised by the
Russians, open because of the Kislyak tape. Barnett, who was in charge of the Flynn case, was not buying it. So Barnett was sidelined.
Barnett, who subsequently served on Robert Mueller’s team, said he believed the special counsel’s prosecution of former White
House national security adviser, Michael Flynn, was part of an attitude to “get Trump”, and that he did not wish to pursue a Trump-Russia collusion
investigation as it was “not there" and considered it to be a "dead end." Barnett was interviewed by Attorney Jensen when Barr decided to review the
Flynn case. Van Grack, who was the Mueller Team prosecutor who handled the Flynn case, stepped down in May 2020, after the DOJ found that
he had withheld large amounts of exculpatory evidence (Brady Material) that existed at the FBI.
