Trump received coronavirus drug cocktail: White House physician
President Trump has received an experimental coronavirus treatment that is still undergoing trials, the White House said Friday. The treatment, described as a polyclonal antibody cocktail, is not yet available to most people in the United States. Trump has also taken "zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin, and a daily aspirin," according to a statement by White House physician Sean Conley. "The president remains fatigued but in good spirits,” he added.
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals developed the treatment, which contains two potent antibodies against the coronavirus spike protein. Early study results indicate that the antibody cocktail may help treat coronavirus symptoms by reducing the viral load. In one early trial of 275 coronavirus patients, those who received the treatment had lower virus levels in their bloodstream after one week compared with those who were given a placebo, according to the company. “The greatest treatment benefit was in patients who had not mounted their own effective immune response,” George Yancopoulos, Regeneron’s chief scientific officer, said in a statement announcing the results on Tuesday. Trump has a low-grade fever, three sources told NBC News. First lady Melania Trump has a “mild cough and headache,” the letter said. Trump's top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, described Trump as having a “very moderate case” but said he was doing “just fine.”
