That man is Igor Pasternak, the founder and CEO of Worldwide Aeros Corp., which makes blimps for military and commercial customers. His business has also been involved in weapons manufacturing, working with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense to produce a modified version of the M4 and M16 rifles, according to reports.

In 2013, Pasternak hosted a fundraiser in Washington for Schiff, who later came to embrace a strong stance in support of the United States sending military aid to Ukraine during its conflict with Russia.

But in a February 2015 appearance on CNN, Schiff was asked by anchor Wolf Blitzer, “You want the United States right now to not only provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but also start providing serious weapons, right?”

He replied: “I do. And I think it's overdue.”

In another appearance on CNN in February 2015, Schiff said, “I think that the United States should be very forward-leaning on Ukraine.”

According to his online biography, Pasternak was born in the former Soviet Union, started his first company in Ukraine, immigrated to the United States in 1993 and is now a U.S. citizen. Since that time, Pasternak’s company has been awarded Ukraine defense contracts.

An invitation for the July 18, 2013, fundraiser, posted online, invited guests to Pasternak’s home on Capitol Hill. “Please join Igor Pasternak for a taste of Ukraine Reception honoring Congressman Adam Schiff,” the invite said.

To attend the fundraisers, sponsors were encouraged to contribute $2,500, and guests were asked to pay $1,000. The invite said checks were payable to “Adam Schiff for Congress.”

An online search of donor records shows that Pasternak has donated money to politicians and organizations of both parties.

Pasternak’s airship company, Worldwide Aeros Corp., is based in Montebello, Calif. The company has won Pentagon contracts to develop airships for surveillance and cargo delivery – including one contract reportedly worth $50 million.

In 2017, Pasternak was quoted in Newsweek talking about his company’s efforts to produce a variant of the M16 rifle in Ukraine. "The M16 project was conceived some time ago, as the Ukrainian armed forces, border guards and National Guard will with time switch to NATO standards," Pasternak said during a press conference in Kiev at the time.

The scrutiny comes as Democrats ramp up their impeachment inquiry into Trump. Democrats are moving ahead with those efforts after a whistleblower complained that the president, in a July phone call, pressed the president of Ukraine to investigate the business dealings of former Vice President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, in that country.

Schiff has been singled by Republicans, including Trump himself, in recent days: Republicans have decried how Schiff, during a hearing last week, read a "parody" version of Trump’s phone call with Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Republicans also slammed Schiff after the Intelligence Committee acknowledged this week that the whistleblower alleging misconduct had reached out to Schiff's panel before filing a complaint.

Trump to head to Walter Reed hospital following Covid-19 diagnosis

President Trump is headed to Walter Reed Medical Center, according to a White House pool report.

Trump has had a fever since this morning, a person familiar with the matter says. The person said the fever remains consistent with the White House's earlier description of "mild symptoms."

This is in addition to new information released by the White House doctor, which described Trump as "fatigued."

Trump announced on Twitter he tested positive for coronavirus early Friday morning.

“President Trump remains in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working throughout the day," press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said. "Trump will be headed to Walter Reed Medical Center shortly — Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the President will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days. President Trump appreciates the outpouring of support for both he and the First Lady.”

Trump was also administered a dose of Regeneron, according to a memorandum from the President’s physician. “As of this afternoon the President remains fatigued but in good spirits. He’s being evaluated by a team of experts, and together we’ll be making recommendations to the President and First Lady in regards to next best steps,” the physician writes.

The memo also says first lady Melania Trump remains well with only a mild cough and headache, and the remainder of the first family are well and tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 today.

The move was recommended by the president’s physician, the official said, and he is expected to work from the hospital for a few days.

Three people familiar with his condition said Trump has a low-grade fever. The president’s doctor said he was administered an antibody cocktail, along with vitamins, and is fatigued, while Melania Trump has a mild cough and headache.

Earlier, administration officials said Trump was experiencing "mild symptoms" after testing positive for the disease early Friday.

But Trump, who regularly posts on Twitter, was silent on the social media platform after announcing his infection, and ceded the only event on his official public schedule to Vice President Mike Pence.

Trump, who is 74 and clinically overweight, is at a higher risk of complications from the virus, due to his age and weight, according to guidance from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. The risk of a severe illness increases with age and other factors, and other medical conditions can also increase risk, including obesity, according to the agency.

Trump's weighs about 240 pounds and is about 6 feet, 3 inches tall, according to past health assessments made public in June. His physician has said he is overall healthy.

A new documentary about the late journalist Mike Wallace opens with Wallace interviewing former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. When confronted about his pugnacious on-air style, O’Reilly points out that Wallace’s question is like the pot calling the kettle black. “If you don’t like me,” O’Reilly huffs, “you’re responsible.”

That’s the big takeaway of “Mike Wallace Is Here,” a watchable if by the book retrospective of the career of the newsman most famous for his hard-hitting interviews and exposés on the CBS newsmagazine “60 Minutes.”

The film closes with a montage of some of Wallace’s interviews from that show and others - clips of which are also sprinkled throughout the film - and it’s pretty impressive. The list includes such marquee names as Malcolm X, Salvador Dali, Johnny Carson, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, as well as a Ku Klux Klan official and a soldier who participated in the infamous My Lai Massacre.

“Mike Wallace” is mostly a greatest hits reel, with the subtext being this message: Wallace, who died in 2012, was instrumental in the rise of personality journalism (“personality” being a euphemism for something bordering on nastiness). In clips of a 1991 Barbra Streisand interview, for instance, the singer complains mightily about what a jerk Wallace is, but it’s hard to tell how serious she is, given the smile on her face.

Other thematic threads woven into the film include the evolution of the TV newsmagazine and the power of television to shape opinion - both of the audience and the reporter. Wallace, who covered the Vietnam War, tells us that he, like many Americans, went in a “hawk,” but came out opposed to America’s involvement in that conflict.

On a more troubling note, the film by Avi Belkin (which was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance) suggests that Wallace’s 1979 interview with Ayatollah Khomeini contained an incitement to violence against Anwar Sadat that led directly to the assassination of the Egyptian president.

One of the most interesting episodes covered by the film is the scandal surrounding a 1996 “60 Minutes” interview with Jeffrey Wigand, a whistleblowing Big Tobacco executive, that was initially pulled from the air by CBS after Wigand’s former employer, Brown & Williamson, threatened a multibillion-dollar lawsuit. (The story was the subject of the Oscar-nominated 1999 feature film “The Insider,” starring Russell Crowe as Wigand and Christopher Plummer as Wallace.)

The report, which ultimately aired, is worth revisiting for what it reminds us about the power of newsmakers to stifle journalism - or at least try to - and how important it is for journalists to fight back. But it’s also a telling personal moment, because it opens the door to a discussion of Wallace’s struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts.

It’s the one moment in “Mike Wallace Is Here” at which we most clearly see and feel the presence of the man, and not just the fighter in front of the camera.
