Aaron Snow, former co-founder of 18F and Executive Director of Technology Transformation Service at GSA now works for Canada Digital Services of the Canadian government, who built their COVID Contact Tracing App

Aaron Snow is the co-founder and former Deputy Executive Director of 18F, a govtech startup that was created by Obama. A 2016 by the GSA's OIG found that 18F spent "more than half its time on outreach, branding, and other non-billable activities." It experienced a net loss of $31M between FY 2014 and 2016. Snow has also been involved in mismanagement and lack of oversight of his team from an IT security compliance standpoint, where this led to 18F circumventing the GSA IT assessment and authorization process.

A Redditor indicated that they worked on a government project where "18F was highly involved at one point. They seemed like a smoke and mirrors, and in many ways they were."

Snow joined Canada Digital Services (CDS), a govtech startup of the Canadian government in 2018. CDS created COVID Alert, Canada's COVID Contact Tracing App. CDS worked with Shopify volunteers and Ontario Data Service for the work engagement and released it in July 2020.

Former 18F Executive Director Lena Trudeau (born Chalykoff and married to Marc Trudeau) also spent some time at CDS in 2017-2018 as a Senior Advisor. 18F co-founder Hillary Hartley now works for Ontario Data Service and is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. Trudeau was formerly the Vice President of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). Today, John Koskinen sits on the Board of NAPA. Koskinen is the former IRS Commissioner which Obama had nominated. Koskinen utilized delay tactics for congressional investigations relating to the IRS targeting scandal… Isn't this concerning at all?

Snow remains a current board member of OpenGov Foundation in Washington.

So is this how the flies flee and spread across the world?

Excerpts:

Although Dr. Fauci says that he was always interested in medicine, his pre-medical school education was classical rather than scientific. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he went to Catholic schools that were strongly oriented towards classical languages and philosophy.

"At school I read the Creek and Latin classics, translating such works as the Iliad and Odyssey from Greek to English. It was a very broad liberal arts education both in high school and college," hey says. One of his schools, Regis High School, is a Jesuit school in Manhattan, and Dr. Fauci praises the Jesuitical system of education as being highly intellectual, highly logical and intensely curious.

"The Jesuits have always trained one to have precision of thought and economy of expression. Today, I tell my fellows: 'Be very precise in what you have to say and say it in a way that's very clear.' I think this training helped me in that regard, although I believe I naturally have this ability to be precise and economical. Nevertheless, I think this schooling gave me a real feel for life," he says.

Dr. Fauci's feel for life was not limited to a classical education, however. Before he went to medical school he worked for four summers as a construction laborer. One of the jobs he worked on was the building of Samuel Wood Memorial Library at Cornell. "Later when I became a medical student and spent hundreds of hours studying in the library, I would remember that it was only a couple years previously that I was working on the gang that had built the very stacks I was now going through.

"Of course I did it for the money. It was very well paid work. But I also did it for the experience. I knew I was going into a highly intellectual academic atmosphere medical school so I thought I should get a feel for what a lot of people need to do to make a living."

From Regis High School's website:

"Founded in 1914 by an anonymous benefactor and supported by the generosity of her family, its alumni and friends, Regis High School offers a tuition free Jesuit college preparatory education to Roman Catholic young men from the New York metropolitan area who demonstrate superior intellectual and leadership potential."

  • Fauci went to a Jesuit high school which was free and for gifted children.

  • He was a construction laborer during the summers before he went to medical school. He was a laborer "for the money" since "it was very well paid work" but also "for the experience".
