After WWll OSS was liquidated, because the belief was secret police organizations were inconsistent with democratic ideals, democracy's with constitutional governance and that they would grow and end up enveloping and subverting democracy. When Americans thought of secret police they thought of STASI, KGB, Gestapo….and Republicans and Democrates said we should not do this. But when they started it they started it exclusively as espionage organization, spying, intelligence gathering, it did not mean interfering. Alan Dulles manipulated the law and did backroom deals getting huge secret budgets and mischief. My grandfather was on a Commission that looked at this and saw what they had done overthrowing democracys, Guatemala, Iran, all over the world and he said we should dismantel the plans devision, the dirty tricks devision from espionage Allen Dulles never forgave him or my family for that.
