The socratic method Is based on creating environment that breeds inquiry. The whole idea is to not force the student to know information, but rather to ask questions in a very enticing and intriguing way.

 

This allows the student to engage and want to know more with the incentive of finding out the answer that they now seek, via your educational lure.

 

This also includes maieutics:

>The maieutic method is Socratic: a person is engaged in a dialogue by a questioner until frustration caused by challenges to his ideas leads him to dissatisfaction with his settled convictions and makes him refine his views.

 

Socrates was famous for generating a classroom based flow that solely relied on the art of 'asking' for the answers, and refining it; to a point where a question that's asked well enough, will get you the best results available/possible.
