MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd indirectly referred to former colleague Keith Olbermann as "somebody from the very far left in media world" on Tuesday after referencing a statement from Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on the "vile" state of politics in 2020.

"[Romney] goes on to name-check a couple of people, somebody from the very far left in media world, and he called out Nancy Pelosi for some of her actions," Todd, who hosts "Meet the Press" said before asking Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) to respond to Romney's blistering statement.

Romney earlier Tuesday criticized President Trump and Democrats for turning the nation’s political environment into a “hate-filled morass” amid a tense presidential race.

The Utah senator, who was the Republican presidential nominee in 2012, also pointed out that Olbermann, a frequent critic of the president, called Trump a “terrorist.”

Olbermann recently said on his YouTube channel, which has 42,000 subscribers, that the “terrorist Trump,” must be "defeated, destroyed, must be devoured at the ballot box, and then he, and his enablers, and his supporters, and his collaborators, and the Mike Lees and the William Barrs, and Sean Hannitys, and the Mike Pences, and the Rudy Gullianis and the Kyle Rittenhouses and the Amy Coney Barretts must be prosecuted and convicted and removed from our society," prompting Romney's condemnation.

Earlier this week, Olbermann announced he was leaving ESPN again to focus on political commentary. His new show is named after a former "Countdown" segment, “The Worst Person in the World."

The 61-year-old was MSNBC's top-rated host from 2003-2011 as host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann." He parted ways with the network in early 2012 and eventually signed with the now-defunct "Current TV."
