Ecuador's navy confirmed a large Chinese fishing fleet of roughly 300 vessels is moving away from the Galapagos Islands and is now operating in international waters off Peru.

 

The Ecuadorian commander of naval operations, Rear Admiral Daniel Ginez, said this week that the Chinese vessels are now "in offshore waters off the exclusive economic zone of Peru."

According to the CDC's survey data, which the agency said came from the months of April to June, the reported use of face masks among adults (ages 18 and older) in April was 78%. That figure jumped to 83% in May.

 

By June, the share of American adults wearing masks had risen to 89%.

 

Generally, younger adults (ages 18-29) were the group with the smallest share of respondents saying they wore masks, while older adults (ages 60 and older) were the group most likely to wears masks.

 

In July, National Geographic reported that 85% of Americans said they wear face masks when they leave their homes.

 

Three months later, even that significant figure had increased.

Rudd denies knowledge of Epstein's $650k donation

White House Lists โ€˜Ending the COVID-19 Pandemicโ€™ as Trump Accomplishment

 

In a news release sent to reporters on Tuesday, the White House Office of Science and Technology listed โ€œending the COVID-19 pandemicโ€ as one of US President Donald Trumpโ€™s first-term accomplishments, despite the fact that COVID-19 cases continue to skyrocket in the US.

 

According to the release, the Trump administration โ€œhas taken decisive actions to engage scientists and health professionals in academia, industry and government to understand, treat and defeat the disease."

 

However, the rosy outlook does not reflect the current reality plaguing the US.

 

As of Wednesday, more than 9 million cases of the novel coronavirus had been reported in the US, with over 232,000 deaths as a result, Worldometerโ€™s COVID-19 data states. According to the COVID Tracking Project, there are more than 44,000 people in the US currently hospitalized due to the respiratory disease.

 

During Wednesdayโ€™s broadcast of โ€œAmericaโ€™s Newsroomโ€ on Fox News, White House Director of Strategic Communications Alyssa Farah admitted that the statement was poorly phrased.

 

"Cases are still rising, and we need the American public to remain vigilant," she explained. "This is the top priority of the president, defeating this virus and rebuilding our economy. But we are rounding the corner, because we think that we will have a vaccine by the end of the year, and because of the president's leadership, we expect that we'll be able to massively deploy that on a large scale to as many as 100 million Americans by the end of the year."

Ex-DHS official reveals himself as 'Anonymous'

 

 

Miles Taylor, a former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official, revealed on Wednesday that he was the anonymous author behind a New York Times op-ed and subsequent book criticizing President Trump's character from the perspective of a staffer inside the administration.

 

"I witnessed Trumpโ€™s inability to do his job over the course of two-and-a-half years. Everyone saw it, though most were hesitant to speak up for fear of reprisals," Taylor, who left the administration last year, wrote in a Medium post.

 

"So when I left the Administration I wrote A Warning, a character study of the current Commander in Chief and a caution to voters that it wasnโ€™t as bad as it looked inside the Trump Administration โ€” it was worse," he continued.

 

Taylor has been public about his criticism of Trump for months, and even endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden earlier this year. He served in the Department of Homeland Security from 2017-2019, a stint that included time as chief of staff to former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

 

During his time in the administration, DHS oversaw the zero tolerance policy at the southern border that led to the separation of thousands of migrant children from their families. The practice prompted bipartisan outcry and was eventually halted, but advocates say hundreds of children still have not been reunited with their parents.

 

Taylor's criticisms on Wednesday largely focused on Trump's character and treatment of the country's institutions, however, and he urged other Republicans to join him in speaking out.

 

"Although former Vice President Joe Biden is likely to pursue progressive reforms that conservatives oppose (and rest assured, we will challenge them in the loyal opposition), his policy agenda cannot equal the damage done by the current President to the fabric of our Republic," Taylor wrote.

 

The anonymous official became something of a Washington sensation following the publication of the Times op-ed in September 2018 in which the author, identified only as a senior administration official in the Trump administration, described coordinated efforts from staff to "thwart" the president's worst instincts and bemoaned Trump's "amorality."

 

The White House pledged to look into the person's identity to attempt to root them out while top administration officials distanced themselves from the opinion piece. The anonymous individual faded back into obscurity until late last year, when they published a book titled "A Warning."

Sephardic JEW Genetic Testing Now Available

 

For years, when we got inquiries from Sephardi or Mizrahi patients about preconception Genetic testing, we would respond that there is currently no testing panel as there is for our Ashkenazi patients.

And we would feel bad about that because we know that, like in many other ethnicities, there are genetic diseases which are common in Sephardi and Mizrahi populations too.

 

When we hosted a Genetic testing event at Yeshiva University in 2013, our flyer included a call-out to the Sephardi students to contact us privately and not to register for the event.

 

Since the genetics for Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews differ by country of origin (and there many countries with Jews), genetics labs never really made it a priority to develop testing panels. After all, why should they develop tests that a tiny number of people will actually need?

We started offering a new panel that was developed for Jews of all backgrounds.

 

This new panel is made of 96 diseases;

48 of them are common in Ashkenazis, 38 in Sephardi/Mizrahis,

and 10 overlap between the groups (it is a very large panel!).

 

Here are some of the things that we have been finding since we upgraded:

 

*''Even though we have tripled the amount of diseases on our testing panel, the โ€˜classicโ€™ Jewish diseases are still โ€˜classic.โ€™"

I would have thought that the more diseases we screen for, we would see a wider array of results, but we have been seeing that those diseases that have been on the panel since the beginning (the common ones, like Tay Sachs and Gaucher) are still the ones that we have been picking up most often.

 

  • People think they know what their ancestry is, but are surprised to find out they may be more mixed than they thought.

 

A patient of ours could have sworn he was 100% Ashkenazi, but he came back as carrier for a disease that is common in Yemenite Jews. When he asked his grandmother if there was something he didnโ€™t know, he learned that he had some North African ancestors!

 

*We haveย  had a Jewish history lesson for our genetic counselors helping them understand the '''different migrations of Jews over the course of history, and how โ€˜ASHKENAZIโ€™, โ€˜Sephardiโ€™, and โ€˜Mizrahiโ€™ JEWS came to be.

 

*The bottom line is that carrier screening is recommended before contemplating a pregnancy for anyone that is at leastยผ Jewish.

 

It doesnโ€™t make a difference if one has mixed ancestry, if he/she knows that a relative tested negative in the past, or if he/she chooses to affiliate with a movement within Judaism.

 

**Our genes do not choose to be transmitted only to the โ€œmore Jewishโ€ people.

House To Consider Authorizing 'Mother Of All Bombs' Sale To Israel

 

Israeli media is reporting that defense officials plan to soon obtain the "mother of all bombs" or a MOAB from the United States.

 

The GBU-43/B Massive Ordinance Air Blast bomb (MOAB) is the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal, which over recent years has seen occasional use in Afghanistan against ISIS, Taliban and al-Qaeda terrorists. Last week Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered the Department of Justice to โ€œauthenticateโ€ the exhibits it had filed in support of its motion to dismiss the case against General Michael Flynn. He also ordered DOJ to authenticate records and documents that had been filed by Gen. Flynnโ€™s attorney in her supplemental filings in support of DOJโ€™s motion to dismiss. DOJ has been providing additional discovery pursuant to Judge Sullivanโ€™s still applicable โ€œStanding Orderโ€ that DOJ provide all โ€œBradyโ€ evidence to a defendant in a criminal case without the Defendant having to make a request or motion. Included in the documents provided by Gen. Flynnโ€™s counsel by DOJ since the filing of the Motion to Dismiss are handwritten notes which DOJ identified to Gen. Flynnโ€™s attorney when making the production that they were notes of Peter Strzok and Andrew McCabe from meetings at different points in time which contain information relevant to the case against Gen. FLynn. On Monday, Assistant United States Attorney Jocelyn Ballentine filed the governmentโ€™s response to Judge Sullivanโ€™s Order. A dispute has now raised with regard to her characterization of what did or did not happen between her and the attorneys for Strzok and McCabe with regard to her efforts to comply with Judge Sullivanโ€™s Order. Here is what she wrote with regard to the task at had as she understood it: By that Minute Order, the Court directed the government to fileโ€ฆ a declaration pursuant to penalty of perjuryโ€ฆthat the 14 exhibits attached to its motion to dismiss (ECF 198) and supplement (ECF 249) (hereinafter โ€œGovernment Exhibitsโ€) are true and correct copies.
