Your pen is one in a long row with no view of those on either side. You have been hearing soft voices speaking thru the barriers, but you can't see anyone.
You've been hearing people coming in on your left and the ratlle of the chain link pen gates. Faint at first but every time it's a little closer. Sometimes there's a shout or sounds of a scuffle but it's always followed by silence after the gate at the end of the row clangs shut. No one comes back to their pen, they only leave.
The closer the visits come, in an uncanny syncopation with the shouted commands and volleys of shots, the quieter the pens become as the occupants mull what's about to happen.
