>Can someone please explain to me what happens when Senators contest? It was explained to me by a Constitutional expert- โ€œdebateโ€ thatโ€™s it. Then Biden gets the electors.

Pence opens the certified electors of each state beginning in alphabetical order

Pence then asks if their are any objections after the reading of each state.

An objection must be made by at least one house member and one Senate member in writing for it to be valid.

When an objection made, the counting of votes stops and the respective chambers, House and Senate separate to debate the objection.

Each member has the right to speak for a maximum of 5 minutes.

Once two hours of debate has been reached, a vote on the merits of the objection is held by each chamber respectively.

If their is disagreement between the two chambers on the validity of the electors the electors certified by the Governor of said state will be adopted.

Once this vote terminates the joint session is resumed and Pence continues to read the next state's results asking once again of there are objections and the process restarts.

If a recess is needed, the joint session resumes the following day at 10 a.m.

If the process enters into the fifth day, and a President has not been certified then no more recesses or adjournments are permitted . And the joint session will continue till a President is determined.
