β€œ President Donald Trump is in a β€œreally good position” for Wednesday’s challenge in Congress, according to former Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell.

US President Donald Trump has been recorded telling Georgia's top election official to "find" enough votes to overturn the election result.

"I just want to find 11,780 votes," Mr Trump told Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in a recording released by the Washington Post.

Mr Raffensperger is heard replying that Georgia's results are correct.

Joe Biden won Georgia alongside other swing states, winning 306 electoral college votes to Mr Trump's 232.

Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris called Mr Trump's comments "a bold abuse of power".

It comes ahead of two crucial runoff elections in Georgia on Tuesday that will decide which party controls the Senate.

Why is the Georgia election so important?

Since the 3 November vote, Mr Trump has been making unsubstantiated allegations of widespread electoral fraud.

All 50 states have certified the election result, some after recounts and legal appeals.

Congress is due to formally approve the election result on 6 January and Mr Biden, a Democrat, is due to be inaugurated as president on 20 January.

All 10 living former US defence secretaries have urged President Trump not to question the election results in an opinion piece for the Washington Post. The group also said he should not involve the military in voting disputes, an idea that's been mooted by some of Mr Trump's supporters.

What happened during the Trump call?

In excerpts of Saturday's phone call released by the Washington Post, Mr Trump can be heard alternately cajoling and pressurising Georgia's secretary of state.

He insisted that he had won the election in Georgia and told Mr Raffensperger that there was "nothing wrong with saying you have recalculated".

Mr Raffensperger responded by saying: "The challenge you have, Mr President, is that the data you have is wrong."

Later in the call, Mr Trump said the rumour was that ballots had been shredded and voting machinery had been removed from Fulton County in the state - claims denied by Mr Raffensperger's lawyer.

Hugh De Lacy, a founder of the national Progressive Party that nominated Henry Wallace for President in 1948 and a former Seattle congressman, died Tuesday in Santa Cruz.

 

He was 76, family spokesman Steve Turner said, and died of cancer in Dominican Hospital.

 

De Lacy was an English teacher at the University of Washington who was elected to the Seattle City Council in 1937. He served one term in Congress, from 1944 to 1946, and then worked on Wallace’s losing campaign.

 

In 1954, he invoked theFifth Amendmentwhen asked by the House Un-American Activities Committee if he was or ever had been aCommunist. He accused the committee of β€œinsisting that a citizen surrender his constitutional rights.”

Silvermaster also had the support of his supervisor, Calvin Baldwin, the head of the Farm Security Administration, who, while not a spy, was a secret Communist. Patterson, relying on these recommendations, overruled the commission and allowed Silvermaster to join the Board of Economic Warfare. In 1942, he became an economist for the War Production Board and was able to pass significant quantities of information related to war production of weaponry , machinery and arms.

 

The ring is called the Silvermaster Spy Ring based on the FBI’s Silvermaster file. The file was compiled after former Soviet-agent Elizabeth Bentley began providing evidence to the FBI. If a recess is needed, the joint session resumes the following day at 10 a.m.

If the process enters into the fifth day, and a President has not been certified then no more recesses or adjournments are permitted . And the joint session will continue till a President is determined.

I was in the US Navy on a Destroyer in late summer 1989 with orders to go sit off the coast of Vladivostok and listen to subs leaving port and collect signatures.

 

After we crossed the Pacific and were real close my ship and other ships were ordered to stand down and stay away from Vladivistock, no reason given (to us lowly sailors onboard).

It turns out less than 2 months later the Berlin Wall came down.

The US navy is very powerful and makes people nervous when they are negotiating world peace behind the scenes.
