ICE, Department of Corrections cooperation ensures safe removal of child molester from US

Dangerous sexual predator convicted of first-degree child molestation

SEATTLE - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers removed a convicted child sexual predator and illegally present criminal alien to El Salvador Tuesday.

Daniel Alfonso Lemus, 43, was convicted of first-degree child molestation and fugitive charges in 2015 and sentenced to a term of 41 months to life. He was later transferred to the custody of the Washington Department of Corrections (WDOC) to serve his sentence.

On Oct. 15, 2015, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers encountered Alfonso-Lemus at the WDOC and lodged an immigration detainer with the jail.

On Oct. 26, 2020, Alfonso-Lemus was released from the WDOC, transferred to ICE ERO custody and subsequently housed at the Northwest ICE Processing Center. On Jan. 5, an immigration judge ordered Alfonso-Lemus removed from the United States.

“Thanks to the coordinated efforts between the Washington DOC and ICE ERO, custody of Alfonso-Lemus was transferred directly to ICE, preventing this violent criminal alien from being released back into the community,” said ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Seattle Field Office Director Nathalie Asher.

Alfonso-Lemus was removed from the United States via an ICE Air Operations charter flight and transferred to the custody of Salvadoran authorities.

ICE is charged with enforcing federal immigration laws enacted by Congress. ICE officers are sworn law enforcement officers who carry out the arrest, detention, and removal of aliens found to be in the United States unlawfully.

Aliens processed for removal may receive their legal due process from federal immigration judges in the immigration courts, which are administered by the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). EOIR is an agency within the U.S. Department of Justice and is separate from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ICE. Immigration judges in these courts make decisions based on the merits of each individual case. ICE officers carry out the removal decisions made by the federal immigration judges.

Totalitarianism Is Upon Us

With the hysteria over the Capitol Building dustup Wednesday hogging the news, I think it’s important not to allow the Georgia runoff elections to be buried and forgotten about, because how a majority of liberty-minded Americans view what happened in Georgia will determine the impact it will have on America’s future.

If conservatives and libertarians throw up their hands in despair and view the Georgia elections as the final death knell for liberty in this country, they might just end up being right. But if they view them as a clarion call to return America to its founding conservative-libertarian roots, they might also be right. What is needed right now is clear thinking and a great deal of action.

The paramount question we should be focused on is not the fact that Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff won the Georgia elections — or even the possibility that their wins might have been a result of the usual Democrat cheating — but how two Marxists were even in a position to run for the United States Senate in a traditionally conservative state. It seems reasonable to conclude that somewhere between 30-40 percent of voters in this one-time red state apparently prefer socialism to free-market capitalism.

Clear thinking on this matter also forces one to face up to the reality that America is now closer to becoming a Marxist nation than at any time in its history. And, if so, I believe it’s important for people to understand what Marxism is all about.

As a prelude, let me start by pointing out that socialism and communism are, for all practical purposes, one and the same. Karl Marx made it clear that socialism was but a phase along the way to communism, which is why I use those two terms, along with terms like Marxism, progressivism, liberalism, leftism, and collectivism, interchangeably.

Second, communism as Marx described it has never existed on this planet. Leftists like to romanticize about his heaven-on-earth version of communism, a fantasy wherein the state “withers away” because everyone has equally satisfying lives — food, housing, medical care, and more — thus no one covets his neighbor’s possessions. In the real world, however, from Lenin to Stalin to Brezhnev, from Mao to Deng to Xi, the term communism (and all of its synonyms) has proven to be nothing more than a euphemism for totalitarian rule.

When communists take control of a country, what actually happens is that people end up with less of everything and are equally miserable. But not all people. Under communism, a new privileged class emerges that replaces the previous elites whose property was appropriated by the state. In the Soviet Union, the privileged class under communism was known as the nomenklatura. It consisted of tens of thousands of bureaucrats whom the oligarchy depended on to keep the proletariat in line.

‘We are under siege’: Ugandan opposition candidate Bobi Wine says military has taken over his home as election count continues

Uganda’s main challenger to the presidency, Bobi Wine, has claimed that the country’s military has besieged his home, as votes are still being counted from Thursday's poll in an election already marred by controversy.

“We are under siege. The military has jumped over the fence and has now taken control of our home,” Bobi Wine, the popstar-turned-presidential candidate wrote on Twitter on Friday.

On Thursday, Ugandans took to the poll in what was billed to be one of the most hotly contested elections in living memory.

The electoral commission said earlier on Friday that President Yoweri Museveni, who is seeking a sixth term, was leading with votes counted for 29 percent of polling stations. The commission reported that Museveni has so far received 63 percent of the ballots, while Wine only had 28 percent.

Wine has rejected the commission’s ongoing count, labelling it a “joke” and declaring himself President-elect.

“We secured a comfortable victory,” Wine told reporters in Kampala. “The people of Uganda voted massively for change of leadership from a dictatorship to a democratic government. But Mr. Museveni is trying to paint a picture that he is in the lead. What a joke!” he added.

The government denied allegations of rigging. “This is what we expected before. Even before we went into polling, he said the election will be rigged,” Ofwono Opondo, government spokesman, told Al Jazeera.

The election, which has not been observed by US or EU officials, has been marred by controversy.

In November, protests broke out around the country after Wine was arrested on the campaign trail. At least 45 people died in the ensuing unrest, as security forces clashed with demonstrators.

On Tuesday, the government ordered all social media to be blocked across the country, although many people retained access through VPN services. The internet has reportedly subsequently been cut off around the country, mirroring similar disruptions before the 2016 election.

On Monday, Facebook shut a slew of accounts belonging to Ugandan government officials, saying that the pages were being used to manipulate public debate ahead of elections.

‘Sanctions guru’ who helped fire 1st shots in Russiagate saga to return as CIA’s deputy director under Biden

Joe Biden’s transition team has picked David Cohen, the former deputy director of the CIA, to reprise his role and help smooth things out for his future boss, career diplomat and intelligence outsider William Burns.

Cohen was considered a frontrunner to become CIA director himself, but Biden chose Burns instead. Cohen’s return to the office he held between 2015 and 2017 was announced on Friday, and since his candidacy does not require a Senate confirmation, he will be able to start on inauguration day.

As deputy for then-CIA Director John Brennan, Cohen was involved in creating the infamous US intelligence assessment of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. The document was widely touted as a consensus opinion of 17 agencies, but later turned out to be a product of officials from only three of them – the CIA, FBI, and NSA – “hand-picked” for the task by then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper (technically, his office is an agency of its own and could be counted as the fourth one vouching for the document).

The assessment, which was released in the final days of the Obama administration, claimed that Russia ran a sophisticated interference and influence campaign to help Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. It primed the US public for the sequel theory that accused the Trump campaign of “colluding” with the Kremlin, setting the tone for the entire presidency of the Republican winner. Russia denied any involvement in the election and said it was used as a scapegoat in US partisan fights.

In 2017, Cohen famously rebuked then-CIA Director Mike Pompeo, when he claimed the US intelligence community believed the outcome of the election was not affected by the purported Russian campaign. In fact, the scope of the report was not wide enough to make such an assessment.

Palm Beach Officials Looking to Cancel Trump Golf Course Land Contract

A Palm Beach County official reportedly contacted legal counsel to inquire about canceling the lease for Trump International Golf Club in unincorporated West Palm Beach.

Howard Falcon, the country’s chief assistant attorney, confirmed to the Palm Beach Post that a county official had contacted him about canceling the land contract for which the president pays the county $88,338 a month in rent.

Falcon told the paper that the idea probably would not be a lawful action. “My initial reaction is it would be a stretch,” he said.

A lawyer for the Trump organization agreed and told the paper that there is “no basis for canceling the lease” because there is no “bad boy” clause in the contract allowing the county to cancel the lease if Trump misbehaves in public.

The president frequently appears at Trump International Golf Club when he is staying at his Mar-a-Lago estate. He also uses the sport to entertain foreign dignitaries, members of Congress, and famous personalities.

Trump owns several other Florida properties, including the Trump National Doral in Miami-Dade County and Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter.

The Palm Beach County official’s inquiry came on the heels of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s decision to sever ties to the president’s businesses.

“I’m here to announce that the city of New York is severing all contracts with the Trump Organization,” de Blasio told MSNBC on Wednesday.

As in the case with ending the Palm Beach contract, the Trump organization insisted that the City of New York had no legal right to simply cancel his New York contracts out of hand.

“The City of New York has no legal right to end our contracts, and if they elect to proceed, they will owe The Trump Organization over 30 million dollars,” the Trump spokesperson said in response to the mayor’s proclamation. “This is nothing more than political discrimination, an attempt to infringe on the First Amendment, and we plan to fight vigorously.”

Comey: Trump Radicalized His Supporters Same Way Al-Qaeda Radicalized Terrorists

Former FBI Director James Comey said Friday on ABC’s “The View” that President Donald Trump and his enablers radicalized his supporters with “constant lying” in the same way Al-Qaeda radicalized terrorists.

Co-host Sunny Hostin asked, “Director Comey, pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol to protest Trump losing the election. How much of what we saw should be blamed on Trump’s radicalization message of a rigged and stolen election, and what about the rioters who stormed the Capitol? Do you consider them to be domestic terrorists?”

Comey said, “First, they are terrorists. They are people bent on coercing a civilian government, attacking our democracy because of their warped view of reality. The reason their view is warped is because of the president’s lies, and it’s not just the lie about the election, which is the prime mover for this attack on Capitol Hill. It’s four years of constant lying about the virus, about our institutions, about our courts, about our democracy. The demagogue’s lies have great power, especially when they’re echoed by his enablers in the Senate and the House and the media. This is how Al-Qaeda radicalized, a constant torrent of lies at vulnerable people.”

He added, “We have millions of vulnerable people in this country who have consumed these lies, and some portion of them have been radicalized to the point where they believe they’re on the side of the angels who have to engage in violence directed against us. So it’s a serious threat. It’s a terrorism threat. Donald Trump and his enablers —we want to make sure we keep the receipts because a lot of people are going to deny they had any connection to it come a few months from now, but that group of people is a radicalized group of terrorists.”
