September 1993 turned into July 1984
I first noticed problems finding balanced (i.e., MLK was a hero, MLK was a commie, MLK was faithful, MLK cheated, etc.) information online just after citizen journalists started getting on the radar.
When was that?
Dan Rather's lies about that National Guard letter making baby Bush look bad.
That was 2004.
Within 18 months (that brings us out 6 months shy of the Facebook/MySpace surging popularity wars) I noticed news sites and political journals FILLED UP with comment sections. Commenters everywhere.
I'm not criticizing commenters on political articles.
What I AM criticizing is I noticed how the search algorithms indexed the comments too.
That made searching for news and opinion A LOT FUCKING HARDER.
So by the time normalfags infested (I mean used) the Internet more and more for news and decision-making "help" via social media 2.0 and smart phones it was already a compromised husk of what it was.
The biased search indexing went up to 11 GamerGate era and the past year has gotten even harder for me to find shit.
NO doubt it will get worse.
I am sick of this shit; I remember the Internet when he was a little kid just exiting out of his military base where he was fed and babied.
I miss that kid.
