Canadians would like to think that reasonable precautions are a good balance between public health and individual liberties.

Well, considering the known and foreseeable harm to the well-being of all Canadians in terms of freedom denied and economic hardship and, yes, public health hazards, it is not reasonable to proceed without a clear and transparent basis for ANY public health measure, especially restrictions.

The basis for the supposed effort to stop the spread or to prevent collapse of the healthcare system, the basis for that, is PCR which does not test for sickness (ie COVID), does not test for viral load (ie presence of actual live virus), does not test for contagiousness/transmissivity (spread) and can not be matched with a specific symptom or set of symptoms unique to an illness (a supposed virus cause of a supposed illness). The PCR madness has not been tested and so is hokum. The evidence against the reliability, or even the applicability and usefulness, of PCR has been mounting for decades and the role of government in pushing PCR as a measure of 'the spread' can no longer hide behind so-called 'abundance of caution'.

These are NOT reasonable precautions based on medical science. POLITICS alone has dictated the fearmongering and the subsequent government impositions that supposed are responsive to the fear of citizens. Culpability has been shared and spread far wider than a supposed outbreak of a supposed virus and supposed illness.

Canadian citizenship is worthless if it is not a status that protects your freedom from harm by government. If that status is now used to deny your freedom and to harm your well-being, then, you have every reason - yes it is reasonable - to act against the government restrictions in whatever way you deem appropriate. Resist by law, resist by political action, resit physically if the threat is severe.

Does not mean violence. Means asserting the true worth of Canadian citizenship for yourself and for your fellow Canadians.

When someone, like a politician or a fearful neighbour, insists that YOU do not have a RIGHT to harm someone else's well-being and so YOU should wear a mask or YOU should take a vaccine or YOU should quarentine, well, you reply that if that is their governing principle in this matter, then, THEY do not have a right to harm your well-being. AND your well-being includes your liberties as well as your personal bodily security. This has been a non-controversial core of the CONSTITUTION and of various provincial human rights codes for decades now.

All provinces pay federal taxes. Equalization is the amount a province receives back from the government. Some provinces receive more money back from the federal government than they have put in. Other provinces receives less money back than they put in and in some cases the maountnis much, much less.

In the case of Alberta, out of the billions it has contributed to the federal coffers, over the lifetime of the equalization payment program it has received a mere $92 million back from the federal government. Alberta has contributed something in the range of $600 billion!!!

So, per capital, Alberta has contributed far more than any other province and despite our current dismal economic state we still do.

More populous provinces such as Quebec and Ontario contribute more overall dollars, but per capital contributions are far less. Quebec has always received more than it has put in to the federal coffers.

When you look at the overall map, with the exception of Manitoba (MB), the west has been supporting the east for a very long time.

So you answer your question, the equalization system is a very unfair system where the wealth from the west is being redistributed to the east.

When looking at equalization, the intent was to give provinces with less fiscal capacity the ability to provide social benefits comparable to provinces with a higher fiscal capacity. This started in 1957. Alberta received equalization payment in 1964-1965. Quebec in the other hand, whose hydroelectric industry remains exempt from equations to determine equalization payments/receipt has received equalization every single year of the program. Not all provinces in this country are created equal.

While Alberta has maintained a high fiscal capacity and has not hesitated on doing what we can to maximize it, other provinces have done everything they can to minimize their fiscal capacity amd thus remain beneficiaries of the equalization program.

Beyond equalization payments, Alberta contributes more to pension plans, employment insurance and many other federal social programs since salaries and earning capacity is higher here than in other provinces. Alberta also has a younger population.

Since 2014, Alberta had been in a recession and between then amd now, the attacks on the major industry (Oil & Gas) have been relentless. Attacks have been coming not just from foreign entities, but from our federal, provincial and even municipal governments. In spite of this Alberta continues to pay the lions share into federal social programs.

Alberta is the most conservative province in the country. Typically a federal election has been determined before we even finish voting. In the last federal election, Alberta (as well as Saskatchewan and significant parts of Manitoba and British Columbia) went conservative. In spite of this, Alberta (and the west, with the exception on BC) has been less than an afterthought to this federal government, except when it comes to money and destroying our livelihoods out here. Our conservative members of parliament are part of the opposition but have little power to change anything (even though our federal government is a minority government). Obianuju Ekeocha said that the Canadian government under Justin Trudeau is using feminist-based foreign aid programs to undermine African values and culture and to ultimately control the African people.

The Canadian government under Justin Trudeau is no better than a “neo-colonial master” to the people of Africa when it uses its aid money to push ideologically-driven programs that are contrary to African values and culture, an African life-and-family leader said in a new documentary about Canada’s foreign affairs’ policy in Africa.

Author, filmmaker, and human rights activist Obianuju Ekeocha, who was born in Nigeria, told former Canadian Ambassador to China David Mulroney in the documentary that African people need aid, but not the kind of aid offered by Trudeau that goes against what it means to be an African.

Africans have their own “views and values on the family, their own views and values on motherhood, for example, their own views and values on women in society,” said Ekeocha in Obsessed: Canada's Coercive Diplomacy, which was produced by Canadian pro-life organization Campaign Life Coalition in partnership with Dunn Media and released online on Jan. 17. Mulroney, one of the country’s leading experts on foreign affairs, helps unpack with Ekeocha in the 90-minute documentary exactly how the Canadian government engages in “coercive diplomacy” in Africa.

“We have our way of life, we have how our society flows. There are gaps, of course, as far as finance is concerned, as far as poverty is widespread, but it doesn't mean that we don't know what it means to respect motherhood. It doesn't mean that we don't have our own thoughts as to how women are supposed to be the real heart of the home within society,” Ekeocha said.

“The Africans already have their thoughts and their views and values on these issues,” she added.

Ekeocha noted with sadness how the Canadian government under Trudeau brought aid to Africa that was not based on the real-world needs of the people but was based on Western ideas of what’s good for the African people.

“The Canadian government comes around with the force of money, and they are coming with their ideologies all already made up,” she said. Trudeau and his government “doesn't care about what the receiver or the recipient is thinking, or how their way of life is, they're just coming to impose upon us something that they have already preconceived in Ottawa and in Toronto.”

Western donors, like the Canadian government, come with “an entire set of ideological views, ideological values on so many issues,” Ekeocha related. “Not only are they not listening to us, but they are really trying to create another region in their own image and likeness. So, someone comes with their ideology, (they) see the Africans, and they consider us like a cultural vacuum.”

OTTAWA, ON, Jan. 24, 2021 /CNW/ - The 1,000 richest people on the planet recouped their COVID-19 losses within just nine months, but it could take more than a decade for the world's poorest to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic, reveals a new Oxfam report today.

The Inequality Virus is being published on the opening day of the World Economic Forum's virtual meeting, The Davos Agenda. The report shows that COVID-19 has the potential to increase economic inequality in almost every country at once, the first time this has happened since records began over a century ago. Rising inequality means it could take at least 14 times longer for the number of people living in poverty to return to pre-pandemic levels than it took for the fortunes of the top 1,000, mostly White male billionaires to bounce back.

In Canada, the fortunes of the country's 44 billionaires have increased by almost $63.5 billion (CAD) since March 2020. Oxfam estimates this would be enough to give every one of the 3.8 million poorest people in Canada a cheque for $16,823 (CAD).

"We stand to witness the greatest rise in inequality since records began. The deep divide between the rich and poor is proving as deadly as the virus," said Diana Sarosi, director of policy and campaigns for Oxfam Canada.

"Women and marginalized racial and ethnic groups are bearing the brunt of this crisis. They are more likely to be pushed into poverty, go hungry or be excluded from healthcare. And yet, they are more likely to work frontline jobs that increase their exposure to the virus. COVID-19 has also led to an explosion in unpaid care work, which is done predominantly by women. This kind of extreme inequality is not inevitable, it is the result of policy choices. Canada and governments around the world must seize this opportunity to build more equal, more inclusive economies that end poverty and protect the planet."

A new global survey of 295 economists from 79 countries, commissioned by Oxfam, reveals that 87 per cent of respondents, including Jeffrey Sachs, Jayati Ghosh and Gabriel Zucman, expect an 'increase' or a 'major increase' in income inequality in their country as a result of the pandemic.

Oxfam's report shows how the rigged economic system is enabling a super-rich elite to amass wealth in the middle of the worst recession since the Great Depression while billions of people are struggling to make ends meet. It reveals how the pandemic is deepening long-standing economic, racial and gender divides.

The recession is over for the richest. The world's 10 richest men have seen their combined wealth increase by half a trillion dollars since the pandemic began – more than enough to pay for a COVID-19 vaccine for everyone and to ensure no one is pushed into poverty by the pandemic. At the same time, the pandemic has ushered in the worst job crisis in over 90 years with hundreds of millions of people now underemployed or out of work.

Women are hardest hit, yet again. Globally, women are overrepresented in the low-paid precarious professions that have been hardest hit by the pandemic. If women were represented at the same rate as men in these sectors, 112 million women would no longer be at high risk of losing their incomes or jobs. Women make up roughly 70 per cent of the global health and social care workforce – putting them at increased risk of contracting COVID-19.

Inequality is costing lives. Afro-descendants in Brazil are 40 per cent more likely to die of COVID-19 than White people, while nearly 22,000 Black and Hispanic people in the United States would still be alive if they experienced the same COVID-19 mortality rates as their White counterparts. Infection and mortality rates are higher in poorer areas of countries.

Fairer economies are the key to a rapid economic recovery from COVID-19. A temporary tax on excess profits made by the 32 global corporations that have gained the most during the pandemic could have raised $104 billion in 2020. This is enough to provide unemployment benefits for all workers and financial support for all children and elderly people in low- and middle-income countries.

Billionaires fortunes rebounded as stock markets recovered despite continued recession in the real economy. Their total wealth hit $11.95 trillion in December 2020, equivalent to G20 governments' total COVID-19 recovery spending. The road to recovery will be much longer for people who were already struggling pre-COVID-19. When the virus struck over half of workers in poor countries were living in poverty, and three-quarters of workers globally had no access to social protections like sick pay or unemployment benefits.

This means that we have not been able to compare the wealth of billionaires to that of the bottom half of humanity as in previous years.

According to Forbes the 10 richest people as of December 31, 2020, had seen their fortunes rise $540 billion dollars since the March 18, 2020. The 10 richest men were listed as: Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bernard Arnault and family, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Warren Buffett, Zhong Shanshan, Larry Page, and Mukesh Ambani.

The oldest historical records of inequality trends are based on tax records that go back to the beginning of the 20th century.

The World Bank has simulated what the impact of an increase in inequality in almost every country at once would mean for global poverty. The Bank finds that if inequality (measured by the Gini coefficient) increases by 2 percentage points annually and global per capita GDP growth contracts by 8 per cent, 501 million more people will still be living on less than $5.50 a day in 2030 compared with a scenario where there is no increase in inequality. As a result, global poverty levels would be higher in 2030 than they were before the pandemic struck, with 3.4 billion people still living on less than $5.50 a day. This is the Bank's worst-case scenario, however projections for economic contraction across most of the developing world are in line with this scenario. In the World Economic Outlook (October 2020), the International Monetary Fund's worst-case scenario does not see GDP returning to pre-crisis levels until the end of 2022. The OECD has warned this will lead to long-term increases in inequality unless action is taken.

Oxfam calculated that 112 million fewer women would be at risk of losing their jobs or income if men and women were equally represented in low-paid, precarious professions that have been most impacted by the COVID-19 crisis based on an ILO policy brief published in July 2020.

Earlier this week, High-profile Indian-origin Canadian Sikh minister Navdeep Bains resigned from his post and quit politics on ‘personal grounds’ surprising many in Canada.

According to the reports, Navdeep Bains, who is considered to be a strong supporter of the Khalistan movement, stepped down as Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry claiming that he wanted to ‘spend more time with his family’.

However, in reality, Navdeep Bains, who played a key role in Justin Trudeau’s first term since 2013, was forced to resign from the cabinet after he was exposed to a massive corruption scandal in Canada. The resignation of Bains is being seen as an attempt by the ruling Liberal Party to save itself from frequent embarrassments on corruption charges.

In November 2018, a Canada-based media outlet had exposed the news of corruption involving Navdeep Bains. According to the report, an irregularity had occurred land deal concerning a piece of land measuring 20-acre between Navdeep Bains and another liberal MP Raj Grewal. The expose had shocked Canada after a brazen corruption scandal involving lawmakers surfaced. Subsequently, the local authorities had ordered a third-party investigation into the matter and sent its details to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The case of corruption in the land deal is itself an interesting one highlighting how two liberal MPs had indulged in act of corruption without any fingers pointing at them. The pro-Khalistan Navdeep Bains and another Liberal MP had purchased that specific piece of land from the Ontario Province and then sold it to the Brampton City at a much higher price than what the City was planning to offer initially.

The land the city was planning to purchase for an amount of $3.3 million, eventually was sold to them by Bains $4.4 million – an extra $1.1 Million on accounts of the public exchequer. Interestingly, the company involved in the land deal was Goreway Heaven and one of its directors, Bhagwan Grewal, accompanied Prime Minister Trudeau to his infamous trip to India in 2018. Besides, about half of its directors have been making handsome donations to the Liberal Party.

Reportedly Grewal is a former MP, was a history-sheeter in corruption and has been practising it on a blanket basis at various levels.

Reportedly, Navdeep Bains is considered to be one of the aggressive Khalistani sympathizers within the Canadian government. Bains has been groomed by the pro-Khalistani radical outfit World Sikh Organisation (WSO), which is accused of radicalizing the Sikh community and making efforts to divide it.

Canada-based World Sikh Organization (WSO), a body of Sikhs formed in July 1984 post-Operation Bluestar, has been openly raising the demand for Khalistan. In fact, the Sikh diaspora in Canada has themselves labeled WSO an extremist organization.

Not just in Canada alone, but across North America and Europe, radical Sikh elements belonging to WSO have used the political climate in their respective countries to build up a political support base for their ideology. Along with another pro-Khalistan terror group Sikh for Justice (SFJ) the World Sikh Organisation and Sikhs for Justice has been funding the Khalistan movement and also does social media propaganda to revive the Khalistan cause.

Incidentally, Navdeep Bains’s father is also a prominent leader of the WSO and is also associated with the Dixie gurdwara — an epicenter of anti-India activities. Bains also has direct connections with Khalistan terrorists as his father-in-law Darshan Singh Saini was listed by the Canadian authorities as a witness for investigating the 1985 Air India bombing case.

In fact, during a debate on anti-terrorism legislation in the House of Commons in February 2007, the then Canadian PM Stephen Harper highlighted the connection of Bains’ father-in-law with the Air India bombing in which 329 people were killed including Canadian, British, and Indian citizens.

The then PM Harper had said that the opposition of the anti-terrorism legislation by Bains was a tactic to protect his father-in-law from appearing in before the RCMP as the Conservatives argued about using the law to use it for investigating the Air India 1985 bombing case. Earlier, the Vancouver Sun had reported that Bains’ father-in-law was on the list of potential witnesses in the bombing case.

Bains was also targeted by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for what he termed as their “well known for their leanings towards the Khalistani movement”. Apart from Canadian defense minister Harjit Singh Sajjan and Former Sikh MP Raj Grewal, the Punjab CM had also referred to Navdeep Bains as a Khalistani sympathizer in 2018.

Later, it was revealed that the gurdwara was not operational at all and was used as a cover by Bains and his associates to sneak in immigrants illegally from India to Canada. Since then, the Canadian authorities have not able to find the traces of three Indian priests sponsored by Navdeep Bains as they have now disappeared after landing in Canada.

According to locals, Bains had forged details of a gurdwara on papers to bring in immigrants illegally under the cover of religious activities, which in turn, make huge financial profits. The gurdwara is controlled by Bains through his father Balwinder Bains and is seemingly a money-making machine for the family. An investigative report had suggested that Fort Erie gurdwara was nothing but a long-abandoned motel surrounded by scrubland overgrown with weeds.

The Liberal leader has also been using other institutional structures of the Sikh community to his advantage. Father of Bains, who enjoys a stronghold over the administration of gurdwaras, had appointed men close to him as the directors of Fort Erie gurdwara, a prominent Mississauga gurdwara that is in the constituency represented by Bains.

Most importantly, the Bains family has been allegedly making massive amounts of money through corruption in Sikh institutions in Canada for ages now. It is alleged that Bains is making a lot of money by not sparing even the Gurdwaras. Locals highlight that Bains and his father run an immigration nexus consisting of IELTS coaching centres in India and colleges and gurdwaras in Canada.

The father-son duo used to facilitate illegal immigration by offering seats to students in these institutions, most of which only exist on paper.

He is facing allegations of favouring the telecom companies to hike internet prices. Bains is also accused of siding with the big telecom companies on their appeal to the lowered wholesale rates.

During his tenure as a minister in Trudeau’s government, Navdeep Bains had given the green signal to multiple Chinese companies with a dark track record and connections to the CCP, without proper national security review. Bains is also believed to be providing back support before allowing Chinese telecom giant Hytera to enter Canada without a proper national security review as well.

Furthermore, the Canadian leader has also been allegedly involved in corruption in the procurement of public goods. Bains is accused in a public procurement irregularity worth $200 million. Bains is facing charges of providing the tender to a company that did not have a manufacturing facility at all.

Here is my hot take. Basically what’s happening is these hedge funds sold stocks they didn’t have for a “high” price thinking that it would go down and they would keep the profit. They did this so much that 140% of the shares were short calls. WSB did research and saw the potential in game-stop so they bought. Now these hedge funds which tried to destroy this company are losing billions (this company has 10 billion invested). This is glorious but they are doing super “illegal (they make the rules)” and sketchy shit to try and yank the stock price down and cause a panic. This includes using the media and short selling again to try and cause a panic. And, suddenly, the shares of Blackberry are a hot commodity. Shares rose 28.42 percent on Monday to $18.03, the highest price in almost 10 years. They have gained 175 percent since 2021 began.

The company told Canadian securities regulators that it is unaware of any reasons for the surge.

The gains come as shares of Gamestop, the video game shop company, have soared thanks to Reddit-driven day traders, speculators, and investors hopping on board to chase the gains. Shares of Gamestop are up 328 percent year-to-date. At their height on Monday, shares were up 145 percent from their Friday close. By the end of the day, shares had given back much of those gains. After briefly turning negative for the day, the shares were up 18 percent at the close.

Posts on the Reddit group r/wallstreetbets, the bulletin board widely credited for sparking the Gamestop rally, indicate a lot of enthusiasm for the stock. Some of the rationales given by posters predicting the stock will continue to rise are based on recent developments at the company. Others are just ridiculous.

“I LIKE THE 2 B’S IT’S AESTHETICALLY PLEASING ,” one user said, citing the company’s ticker symbol.

Last year, Blackberry announced a multi-year partnership with Amazon web services to co-develop BlackBerry IVY, a new “cloud-connected intelligent vehicle data platform” that offers automakers a “standardized secure way to read and analyze vehicle sensor data.” Last week, the company settled an intellectual property lawsuit the company had filed against Facebook, accusing the social network of infringing on Blackberry’s messaging technology.
