Ya know, Eddie, we designed, built (from ROCKS) and operated the presses that made the paper, and the ink in all those books behind you. That you denigrate the people who build all the things in your world, while you remain incapable of doing so, demonstrates a fairly complete lack of intellectual rigor on your part.

Eddie, I used to build metal stamping presses - I made the machines that make the machines - and I can start with a handful of wheat seeds and build a pizza, too. I've also written one complete textbook about a computer operating system and contributed to both a religious and a 12 step recovery text. The addiction recovery volume is, some 30 years later, still in use. It is I, not you, Eddie, who developed the elapsed time algorithm that calculates your paycheck. I wasn't paid to do that, Eddie, I was simply filling a need and I placed it in the public domain. I could have charged a considerable amount of money for it. I can prove I wrote it as I still have the original, date stamped, file on a diskette around here somewhere and I'm confident that at least some of my students could testify to when I taught it to them / beat it out of them. None of them had completed high school but they all got a solid taste of quadratic algebra and, by solving a monster problem, became intimately with its rules. A spreadsheet cell has a hard limit as to the number of characters it can contain. I solved the problem in one less and posted it to GoBor on the old America Online bulletin board.
I'm not a polymath, sir, but I can navigate in four, although I claim fluency in only one. I'm a conservative and there are many more like me. I can hit a dime at 200 yards with iron sights and a WW2 era Russian mil-surp rifle. My sons are better than I am. They are also smarter. I've never field dressed game, but I've stalked a wild deer to the point of laying my hand on it – and I know other men who can do the butchering / tanning from there.

If I had been trying to grow our meat needs, I'd have needed only twice as much area. My tiny Detroit city backyard would have been plenty. In Detroit, I harvested 11 months out of the year.
