Hermiston man sentenced to over 200 years for numerous child rapes

UMATILLA COUNTY – Jose Olivarez Fernandez, 58, received a sentence of 200 years and ten months in prison for repeatedly raping a child under the age of ten for several years.

Authorities say Fernandez decided to plead guilty to 19 sex crimes just before the 10-year-old victim was going to take the stand and testify against him. Fernandez pleaded guilty to Unlawful Sexual Penetration, First Degree Sodomy, First Degree Sex Abuse, Incest and multiple other offenses.

Fernandez received his sentence on January 29.

Court documents state the the sexual abuse took place in multiple jurisdictions, the most recent being the defendant's home in Hermiston.

The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office investigated the case.
