It looks they used thin metal bands (I don't know the actual name for it) to hold the boxes together, then shrinkwarpped over it. That would be my explanation for the vertical lines.

I don't think it is a server frame, both pallets look like they're made up of multiple smaller boxes.

Whoever packaged them went out of their way to make sure they would be secure.
