Republican Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby announced Monday that he will not run for reelection in 2022.

“Today I announce that I will not seek a seventh term in the United State Senate in 2022. For everything, there is a season,” Shelby, who is 86 years old, said in a statement.

Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., said Monday that he will not seek reelection next year, bringing to a close a four decade career representing the southern state in Congress.

On August 4, 2020, a federal grand jury charged Buck with four additional felonies, bringing the total number of federal charges to nine counts.

Buck was scheduled to go to trial on January 19, 2021, but the date was postponed to April 20, 2021 due to COVID-19-related considerations.

The previously delayed criminal trial of Ed Buck on federal charges relating to the methamphetamine-overdose deaths of two Black men, on separate occasions, at his former residence in West Hollywood has been rescheduled from next week to April 20.

A source close to the case says that another postponement is almost certain to follow, if for no other reason than the logistics involved in pooling a jury, a process presumably complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The federal case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI. The investigation is being conducted with the support of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.
