Scarborough to Trump Supporters: ‘Your American Values Have Collapsed’

MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough on Monday delivered a message to those still supporting former President Donald Trump, whose Senate impeachment trial is set to begin this week. The impeachment is over Trump’s role in the riot at the U.S. Capitol in January by a group of his supporters.

According to Scarborough, the group that breached the Capitol on Jan. 6 are “Trump terrorists.” He pointed to conservatives who spoke out against people kneeling for the national anthem and said anyone who was critical of the kneeling but not of the “Trump terrorists” using an American flag to beat a police officer has had their American values “collapsed.”

The ease with which the coronavirus spreads, the emergence of new strains and poor access to vaccines in large parts of the world mean Covid-19 could shift from a pandemic disease to an endemic one, implying lasting modifications to personal and societal behavior, epidemiologists say.

The last known natural case was in Somalia in 1977.

In 1978, an accident in a research laboratory led to the death of one person from the disease.

Dodgy money from around the world has poured into secretive shell companies based in Luxembourg. Here’s why it was possible — and how we exposed them.

Key Findings

Despite reform efforts, Luxembourg is still an opaque jurisdiction, where mandatory disclosure rules for companies and individuals can be circumvented and sanctions are rarely enforced.

One year after the creation of a new register of ultimate beneficial owners, barely half of Luxembourg companies have declared at least one UBO. Only one fifth of investment funds based there have done so.

Dozens of foreign citizens linked to corruption, embezzlement of public funds, organized crime, and tax crime have opened companies in Luxembourg, seemingly without raising red flags, suggesting a failure in the regulation of the corporate industry.

In 2019, an announcement appeared in the Spanish press. A major stake in one of Spain’s largest weapons manufacturers, Maxamcorp, had been sold.

The Spanish government approved the deal, and everything seemed to be proceeding normally. But for those following closely, the situation was bizarre: Nobody knew who the real buyer was.

The only available information about the company’s owners showed two firms registered in the Cayman Islands. These are linked to a U.S. private equity company, Rhone Capital, but little else is known about them. To some, the opacity was disturbing.

“It is unacceptable that the Spanish government is greenlighting a company to operate in a sector that has many human rights implications without knowing who is behind it,” said Susana Ruiz, Tax Justice Coordinator for Oxfam International.

Prill isn’t the only mysterious company registered in Luxembourg. Though it’s one of the smallest nations in the world, Luxembourg hosts an enormous amount of financial activity, almost all of it originating abroad. Nearly 90 percent of companies registered in the country are controlled by non-Luxembourgers. At least 266 members of the Forbes billionaire list — none of whom are locals — have companies there. And about 40 percent of Luxembourg companies were set up merely to hold assets, without generating any other economic activity.

Essentially, the country functions as an offshore hub in the heart of Europe.

Many Luxembourg companies are in full compliance with the law and exist for legitimate reasons. But others are owned by people with political exposure, corrupt officials, and even organized criminal groups.

The biggest draw might be Luxembourg’s reputation for secrecy. This has made it a magnet for people seeking to “disconnect themselves from their holdings,” says Gabriel Zucman, an associate professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley.

Holding assets in Luxembourg companies “is going to make it harder for authorities to link assets to their owners, which is going to make it harder for authorities to investigate cases of corruption or fraud or tax evasion,” he said. “That’s the key service that’s provided by this segment of the financial industry.”

So much Russian capital has found its way to Luxembourg — and back again — that the tiny European state is now one of Russia’s biggest foreign investors. “That is not because Luxembourg is investing to build factories in Russia,” says Benoît Majerus, a history professor at the University of Luxembourg. “It is clear that it is Russian money circulating in Luxembourg and returning to Russia.”

Italian prosecutors say members of the ’Ndrangheta mafia have flocked to Luxembourg, seeing it as an “extremely attractive” place to keep ill-gotten cash out of reach.

And investigators in at least three South American countries are looking into allegations that political figures stashed bribes in Luxembourg companies.

“We are worried,” Laurent Lim, a policy officer for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Financial Stability, told OCCRP. “Luxembourg is known for this matter of taxation, but we must also start talking in terms of money laundering.”

“Until last year there was no transparency,” he added. “Until last year a company could be created and there was no way of knowing who was the beneficial owner.”

Now, there is — at least, in theory.

After having sent nearly 280 people to jail and having retrieved some US$800 million to state coffers, Brazilian prosecutors dismantled last week the so-called Car Wash Task Force that handled the largest anti-corruption probe in the history of the country.

The operation initially looked into a series of illicit transactions linked to a car wash called Lava Jato in the country's capital. However, it rapidly evolved into a complex bribing scheme involving the state's oil company Petrobras and the largest political parties.

The investigation shook both Brazilian and Latin American politics and sent to prison four Presidents, including Brazil's Luis Inacio 'Lula' da Silva. It also exposed the tentacles of white-collar corruption across the region and prompted other countries to carry out their own probes.

According to a statement from the Attorney General's Office, the nine members that formed the task force were reassigned to Gaeco, a unit fighting organized crime in Brazil. Four prosecutors will continue to pursue investigations related to Lava Jato, while the remaining five will engage in other procedures.

Since March 2014, the task force has carried out 1,450 search and seizure warrants and collected evidence against 533 defendants, resulting in 278 convictions, read the statement.

The probe additionally had two investigations: Operation Pilot, which revealed in 2018 a money laundering and bribery scheme across Latin America linked to the construction group Odebrecht, and the Integration Operation, which looked into the systematic payment of bribes by Parana toll concessionaires.

"The legacy of the Lava Jato Task Force is undeniable and commendable considering the advances we have made in discussing such important and costly issues to Brazilian society. However, there is still a lot of work,” said Alessandro José de Oliveira, coordinator of the Lava Jato unit at Gaeco.

The task force comes to an end a year and a half after a leak showed conversations suggesting that Sergio Moro, the former Brazilian justice minister and the judge who jailed Lula Da Silva, did not act impartially.

In August last year, President Jair Bolsonaro said he did not want to end the Lava Jato operation, but eventually he did "because there isn't any corruption" to be investigated in his government.

OCCRP recently named Bolsonaro the 2020 Person of the Year for his role in promoting organized crime and corruption. The Brazilian President’s links to corrupt figures, the use of propaganda to push a populist agenda, his attacks against the justice system and his continual destruction of the Amazon made him worthy of the unflattering title.

On 1 February, Myanmar’s key leaders, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President Win Myint, and other high-ranking officials, were ousted by the country’s military and arrested over claims that the November 2020 elections were rigged.

The election commission used the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to prevent fair campaigning ahead of the general election in Myanmar last year, the country’s military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, said in a televised address to the nation on Monday.

He added that the authorities had failed to do their duty and cited many excuses for not fulfilling their obligations.

According to Min Aung Hlaing, the country's election commission must be reformed and measures to fight the coronavirus infection should become a priority. He went on to say that he has formed a government of suitable ministers.

Myanmar's military chief also said that the country's foreign policy won't be changed.

Roger Severino received an e-mail last Wednesday from the deputy director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office demanding his immediate resignation.

Former Trump appointee Roger Severino sued the Biden administration on Thursday after being forced to resign from a non-partisan post “on behalf of President Biden.”

Severino had served as the head of the Civil Rights Office (OCR) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from March 2017 until last month. In August 2020, President Donald Trump appointed Severino to the Council of the Administrative Conference of the United States (ACUS), an independent federal agency, reappointing him in January.

During his nearly three-year tenure at OCR, Severino notably fought for pro-life and religious freedom protections, suing a Vermont hospital when a nurse said it had forced her to participate in an abortion against her faith. Under his leadership, OCR launched the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division to institutionalize enforcement of anti-discrimination protections for religious Americans in 2018.

According to his lawsuit, Severino received an e-mail last Wednesday from Gautam Raghavan, deputy director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, demanding his immediate resignation from ACUS.

“I am writing on behalf of President Biden to request your resignation from the Administrative Conference of the United States Council by 5:00 p.m. ET tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3. If you do not resign by that time, your appointment to the Council will be terminated,” it reads.

“The statute governing ACUS provides that Mr. Severino’s term on the Council lasts for three years, and the statute makes no provision or allowance for at-will Presidential removal,” states Severino’s lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court of for the District of Columbia.

“President Biden’s attempt to remove me contrary to law exposes his lofty promises of healing and uniting all Americans as nothing more than cynical manipulation,” Severino said in a statement provided to LifeSiteNews.

“I have been an active and valued member of the ACUS Council since my initial appointment and there is absolutely no cause for this attempted removal,” he continued, adding that “no reason has been given by President Biden or his staff despite my asking for a justification.”

“Notably, the Trump Administration did not terminate any Obama-era ACUS appointees before their terms expired, and I believe this is the first time in ACUS history that a President has attempted such a move,” Severino said.

Alleged paedophile Alan Jones settled defamation case with SBS after they filed a truth defence and Australian media covered it up

Alan Jones settled his defamation lawsuit, the day before Christmas 2020, against the SBS who he claimed had in effect accused him of being a paedophile for sending love letters to schoolboys when he was a teacher at The King’s School in Sydney in the 1970’s. Jones’s motivation to settle seems to have been when the SBS filed a defence that included the truth defence which meant the court would have heard evidence that Jones is a paedophile.

Jones refused to deny having sex with children when I emailed his lawyers and barristers last year asking relevant questions regarding his lawsuit against the SBS. That question and others I asked were always questions that Jones was going to be asked in the witness stand so he wasn’t going to be able to avoid answering them forever. Jones instituted proceedings against the SBS in October 2020 and I wrote at the time in an article titled “Alan Jones sues SBS for defamation for implying he is a paedophile, racist and liar. So where’s the defamation?” and said:

Former 2GB radio announcer and current Sky News host Alan Jones is suing the SBS and SBS presenter Alex Lee for defamation which seems to be an attempt to re-write history as I personally can’t see a problem with what they have said about Jones. I put 30 questions to Alan Jones’s two barristers and lawyer as per below which they failed to respond.

The SMH reported on Thursday (15/10/20):

“Veteran radio and television broadcaster Alan Jones is suing public broadcaster SBS for defamation over a television segment which he claims “greatly injured” his reputation by wrongly portraying him as a racist, a misogynist and a liar.” But they left the paedophile allegation right until the end of the article and gave no explanation what it was about although other media did.

The Guardian reported on Friday (16/10/20):

One of the alleged imputations was that “Mr Jones was a paedophile in that he had written a love letter to a schoolboy” and another that “he was a hypocrite, in that although being a broadcaster he had sued for defamation countless times”.

In the segment on The Feed, which has now been taken down by SBS, Lee said Jones “made a career out of bullying people” and “spread lies and fake news”, according to court filings. (Click here to read more)

SBS filed a defence in early December 2020: “In a 36-page defence document filed last week, SBS denies those claims and says the claimed defamatory imputations are based on honest opinion, are protected by fair comment, are contextually true, and were justified under the Defamation Act.” (Click here to read more)

At roughly the same time SBS filed their defence they also subpoenaed documents from Alan Jones that he would have had to hand over in early 2021 which obviously rattled Jones so he walked away from the defamation case.

Disturbingly, Australia’s old media have covered this up with only 2 news stories on Jones withdrawing his defamation claim in The SMH and The Daily Mail which copied the story in The SMH. Both The SMH and The Daily Mail refused to mention the paedophile part of the defamation claim and gave the appearance that Jones only sued because he was “wrongly painted him as a racist, a misogynist and a liar“.

A Nebraska woman who vanished from her home in January was found dead on Friday, PEOPLE confirms.

Amber Tjaden, the 48-year-old daughter of former Omaha mayor Jim Suttle, was found shortly after authorities found her black 2019 Jaguar F-Pace SUV on an unplowed rural road in Otoe County

"We had a cattle producer who was down in the area and he pulled someone out in the area and observed the vehicle and called it in," Cass County Sheriff's Office Captain David Lamprecht tells PEOPLE. "They sent an Otoe County deputy out and located the vehicle."

Lambrecht says Amber was found beside the SUV.

The results of her death are pending an autopsy. Foul play is not suspected, he says.

The investigation is being conduct by Otoe County Sheriff and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Tjaden disappeared Jan. 27 after she got into an argument with her husband at their Weeping Water home.

Police said Tjaden, who manages the Gateway to College program at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, left home around 3 p.m. and spoke to her daughter. Her daughter attempted to reach her the next day but when she couldn't contact her, she reported her missing to the police.

Insider Trading – Knowing something the public does not know before the information is publicly disclosed and trading on it to profit at the expense of the public (Example; zombie Wall Street). These firms might be capturing non-public information from people using their search engines and “trading” on these searches to the detriment of the American Public.

Behaving as both an Agent/Principal. Issuing (raised the money for a company or other institutions) securities and were paid 4-7% of the amount raised and then sold these same securities to your clients and receive a commission. This is outlawed in the finance industry. (These similar activities might not be outlawed in the Big Tech space.)

These companies may or may not be collecting personal information about their clients and using it unfairly to undermine the very companies using their platforms. These companies sell your personal information to the highest bidder (Example: Who has figured out how to manipulate you most effectively.) Immigrant Food, a fast-casual restaurant in D.C. that sells global fusion bowls a couple blocks away from the White House, went the extra mile to stay open this week while National Guard troops and other authorities shut down traffic leading into Inauguration Day.

“On our entire block, not one single restaurant is open — we wanted to really be there for customers,” Ivanovic says.

The kitchen gave them a “wish list” full of chicken, daikon, potatoes, onions, curry powder, and leafy greens, which they bought at Wegman’s and Walmart near Schechter’s home base in Culpepper, Virginia. On Monday, two days before inauguration, Schechter’s wife dropped him and Ivanovic off at George Washington Circle. With bags bursting with produce and poultry, the pair made the 14-minute trek to the restaurant in the middle of an eerily quiet artery of D.C.
