It was always the parents duty to train and raise their children.
Allowing anyone else to take over that duty has eroded future generations ability to think for themselves and allowed an open door to indoctrination.
It also created a gap between parent and child - casual disinterest in what they’re learning or doing as beings. This was all by design.
Be it catholic schools or state run ones.
