The Trump administration wanted to blacklist the telecom company for supporting China’s oppression of the Uyghur people and actions in the South China Sea, but AT&T launched a desperate campaign to stop the blacklisting. Why? Because AT&T, the parent company of CNN, has a contract with China Telecom and fears business retribution from the Chinese government. NATIONAL FILE has confirmed these revelations with sources inside the Trump administration.
“China Telecom was set to be included on the Entity List because of its alleged support for the Chinese government’s human rights abuses and activities in the South China Sea. AT&T then lobbied to keep China Telecom off the Entity List,” former Commerce Department Undersecretary Corey Stewart told NATIONAL FILE.
Sources tell National File that AT&T’s business in China is very likely a driving motivator for AT&T’s political action committee cutting off donations to Republican congressmen and senators who supported President Trump in the disputed election, and for CNN’s hostile coverage of Trump.
The Trump administration was ready to place state-owned China Telecom on the Entity List due to its support for Chinese government actions in the South China Sea and Chinese government human rights abuses including mass incarceration of the Uyghur people, an ethnic minority, according to sources familiar with the situation.
If a company is placed on the Entity List, it becomes a veritable pariah and Americans need a special waiver from the government to engage in business with the company. Then Ed Gillespie, the former Republican National Committee chairman and Virginia gubernatorial candidate and currently AT&T’s executive vice president for external and legislative affairs, personally phoned Trump Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in January and pressured him not to shake the boat with China, multiple sources have confirmed to NATIONAL FILE.

Jen Psaki: Joe Biden Has Not Spoken Personally to Governors Affected by Winter Storms
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday that although President Joe Biden was “monitoring” states drastically affected by winter storms, he had not yet personally reached out to their governors.
“The president has been kept abreast as I noted of the events and been provided regular updates on the storm and the progress,” Psaki said during the White House press briefing Tuesday afternoon.
Freezing temperatures have paralyzed power generation plants, leading to rolling blackouts across the south-central part of the country and leaving millions without power.
Psaki informed the press that Biden’s Homeland Security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall spoke with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott over the weekend when he called to ask Biden to declare a federal emergency for the state to trigger federal support for storm victims.
Psaki said that Sherwood-Randall also called other governors — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt.
“She expressed the president’s strong commitment to ensuring that the federal government proactively does everything it can to support state and local officials and preparing and responding to events that affect our citizens,” Psaki said.
Biden signed a declaration of a state of emergency in Texas on Saturday during his three-day weekend at Camp David, and Psaki said Biden would continue “monitoring the situation in Texas very closely.”
So far, Biden has not disrupted his Tuesday’s light public schedule to respond to the disaster. He is scheduled to leave in the evening for a trip aboard Air Force One to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for a CNN town hall.

A Pennsylvania school is under fire after fifth graders were reportedly forced to celebrate black communism and hold a mock "Black Power" rally amid Black History Month celebrations.
Students in one Philadelphia elementary school were allegedly forced to celebrate "black communism" and endure a mock Black Power rally in order to "free" Angela Davis, outspoken radical political activist, from "jail."
Christopher Rufo, a contributing editor at the City Journal, detailed the alleged activities — which he says were outlined by whistleblower documents — and said that he spoke with a school source that corroborated the details.
Students at William D. Kelley School were reportedly exposed to the playacting through a social studies class that praised Davis — "the 'black communist'" — for her fight against "injustice and inequality."
Students, according to Rufo's report, were also told to pretend they were participating in a rally to free Davis, who was once jailed — and later freed — on charges of murder and more.
"As part of the lesson, the teacher asked students to 'describe Davis' early life,' reflect on her vision of social change, and 'define communist' — presumably in favorable terms," Rufo wrote for the City Journal. "At the conclusion of the unit, the teacher led the ten- and eleven-year-old students into the auditorium to 'simulate' a Black Power rally to 'free Angela Davis from prison, where she had once been held while awaiting trial on charges of conspiracy, kidnapping and murder."
The children, according to the outlet, were then directed to march around the state holding a variety of signs that read "Black Power," "Jail Trump," "Free Angela," and "Black Power Matters."
"They chanted about Africa and ancestral power, then shouted 'Free Angela! Free Angela!' as they stood at the front of the stage," Rufo added.
The outlet also points out the school's apparent penchant for political radicalism, and points to the school's "newest public artworks" — mural commissions of Davis and Communist and Black Panther revolutionary Huey P. Newton — as proof of politicization.
Rufo wrote, "One teacher at William Kelley, who requested anonymity out of fear of reprisals, expressed deep pessimism about the future of public education: 'I've come to realize that no policy hurts African-Americans more than the public school system and the teachers' union.'"
The Daily Caller also reported on the allegations, and noted that the district did not respond to its request for comment in time for publication.

The Backlash to Biden's Transgender Agenda Is Already Brewing

Biden issued an executive order banning “discrimination” on the basis of gender identity. The order requires schools to open girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, and sports leagues to biological boys. It requires health care plans to pay for experimental transgender “treatments” and requires doctors and hospitals to perform them.
This order enforced the Supreme Court’s ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County (2020), which redefined “discrimination on the basis of sex” in federal law to include discrimination on the basis of gender identity. As Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito warned in his dissent, this move threatens “freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and personal privacy and safety.”

Specifically, Alito warned that allowing biological males to enter women’s bathrooms and changing rooms may invite assault or abuse. He warned that opening women’s sports to biological males would “force young women to compete against students who have a very significant biological advantage.” He warned that the Court’s ruling would force rape crisis centers to admit biological males if they claim to identify as women.
Alito also warned that the Court’s ruling — and, by extension, Biden’s order — would prevent religious organizations from only hiring people who “actually live the faith.” He warned the ruling would force employers and health care providers to endorse transgender surgeries. He warned that this broad interpretation of discrimination would suppress free speech, forcing people to kowtow to transgender pronouns.

This time, strong measures were taken because the people involved in the affair, veterans of Israel’s aerospace industry and other sectors, as well as former officers in the military, made a mockery of everyone.
The main suspect is a kind of Dr. Strangelove of the drone world. He’s considered a talented expert who decades ago worked in Israel’s aerospace industry before setting up independent ventures that landed him in business disputes, police investigations and bankruptcy. In 2006 I wrote about a case very similar to the current one where he got in trouble. None of this deterred him and his irrepressible obsession to develop drones and make easy money.
The affair was uncovered by chance, not by the sophistication or resourcefulness of defense officials or law enforcement agencies. The suspect and his assistants conducted an experiment not far from a residential area in Tel Aviv suburb Petah Tikva. Local people heard the noise and called the police, who investigated. I reported on the initial stages of this probe a year ago.
The police investigated not only because the suspects didn’t have a Defense Ministry permit for the transaction and tried – via shell companies, intermediaries and money laundering – to conceal the buyer. The involvement of the Shin Bet security service in the investigation proves fears that the technology developed by the network could leak to hostile elements such as Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas.

Active-duty troops to administer vaccines in Texas, New York and Virgin Islands
Thousands of active-duty troops are on standby to deploy around the country to Federal Emergency Management Agency COVID-19 vaccination sites, with a plan to bring millions of additional doses to some of the hardest-hit regions.
In addition to sites currently running in Los Angeles and Oakland, Calif., the head of the U.S. Northern Command told reporters Tuesday, multiple sites are due to stand up in the next week or so in Texas and New York, followed by more in the Virgin Islands by early March.
Several hundred are on the ground now in California, but up to 3,700 have been “allocated to prepared to deploy,” Air Force Gen. Glen Vanherck said. “They have not been given a tasking to deploy.”
Troops from four services will man vaccine sites, which will be federally supported and receive vaccine doses separate from each state’s allocation.
By Feb. 24, Vanherck said, there will be an Air Force team in Houston, an Army-Marine Corps team in Dallas, a Navy team in Queens, N.Y., and an Air Force team in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Each team will be made of medics to administer vaccines, support staff to screen recipients before and monitor or adverse reactions afterward, as well as nurse supervisors to oversee each site.
NORTHCOM has requested up to 100 teams in total, half of which will have 139 personnel, the other half 222, able to administer 3,000 or 6,000 doses a day, respectively, Vanherck said.
If all 100 sites come online, they could be administering more than 400,000 doses a day, according to Robert Fenton, the senior official performing the duties of FEMA director.
The Biden administration announced Tuesday it would distribute more than 13 million doses in the last week of February, continuing to strive for 100 million doses within President Joe Biden’s first 100 days in office.

DARPA's New Space Program Stirs Worldwide Concern
A new space technology exploration program announced by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency is riling up international opposition as the race to mine space heats up
On the same day that Joe Biden obtained the Electoral College majority needed to become president of the United States, a metallic asteroid roughly half the size of New York City made its closest approach to earth. Far from indulging in apocalyptic visions of cosmic destruction, mining company executives like Bob Goldstein of US Nuclear Corp. were seeing dollar signs. Somewhere in the ballpark of $10,000 quadrillion of them in fact.
Goldstein and others in the resource extraction industry have been salivating over these otherworldly mineral prizes ever since Barack Obama signed the U.S. Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act into law, which grants U.S. citizens the right to own resources mined in space. The bill, introduced and co-sponsored exclusively by Republican Congressmen, was passed by a unanimous vote in 2015.
Praised as a “landmark for American leadership in space exploration” by Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL), the Space Act of 2015, as it is also known, has elicited all manner of effusive reactions from private sector space industry giants like Planetary Resources, which had already struck a deal with Bechtel Corporation in 2013 to mine asteroids. Planetary co-founder Eric Anderson declared that the legislation was nothing less than a “major step toward humanity becoming a multiplanetary species.”
Despite the Neil Armstrong-esque displays by both private and public sector players, the recent inclusion of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) into the conversation has many on the international space policy side of the equation worried.
NOM4D
The Novel Orbital and Moon Manufacturing, Materials and Mass-efficient Design (NOM4D) program announced by DARPA on February 5 “seeks to pioneer technologies for adaptive, off-earth manufacturing to produce large space and lunar structures,” according to the agency’s press release.
The language used to describe the program has sparked heated debate over whether or not NOM4D will violate Article IV of the United Nations Outer Space Treaty (OST), which prohibits the “establishment of military bases, installations and fortifications” anywhere on the lunar surface or cislunar orbit (between the earth and the moon).
Chris Johnson, legal counsel of the Secure World Foundation – a private foundation that promotes space sustainability – clarified some of the ambiguity surrounding the debate in an email to Breaking Defense, stating that “If DARPA (or its contractors) are conducting activities on the Moon which are temporarily peaceful in nature, […] this is still a MILITARY activity, and therefore pretty clearly prohibited.”
NOM4D program director manager Bill Carter dismisses such concerns, claiming to be “slightly baffled” by the controversy, asserting that the project is “a materials science program. We’re going to be doing stuff on the ground — we actually don’t have any plans to launch anything.”
Carter, a materials scientist, elaborated about the areas of focus and highlighted the program’s interest in “the capabilities of materials that I extract from regolith as they apply to things [like] reflective surfaces and so forth,” which “could be important for Earth observation or situation awareness, all those things.”
The validity of Carter’s arguments notwithstanding, his mention of regolith in particular buttresses Johnson’s concerns. The “dust-like material that covers the lunar surface” is considered a prime resource for the eventual construction of moon bases. Something of a generic term used to describe the layer of “clays, silicates, various minerals, groundwater, and organic molecules” that form on the surface of solid rock, lunar regolith, by contrast, has its own unique composition.
As Johnson says, while “it may be possible for someone to offer a tortured argument as to how this is not explicitly illegal — either through de-linking the activity from the US military through intermediaries, or separating activities from the lunar surface and surrounding deep space, or painting the military activity as peaceful in nature,” he “would not be buying it.”
