A thought occurred to me that everyone keeps mentioning the states that need “reopened”. For example, the state of Pennsylvania is often mentioned. In PA restaurants are limited capacity. But, the healthcare industry has been seeing inpatient visits since about June 2020. People can get dental check-ups, yearly pcp physicals, & even go to the eye doctor. They are making people wear a mask & call when they get to the office & walk back to the examining room but the facilities are open. A lot of schools also are open with students doing in person learning every other day.

It appears that cancel culture is now knocking on my door. In advance of a school newspaper article, I wanted to share my thoughts here in a way that they would be unfiltered.

 

THREAD

 

Even if you don’t know me by name, you may know that I am a fulltime mathematics professor and also a baseball coach. You also know that I am a passionate advocate of reason, individualism, and laissez-faire capitalism.

 

This makes me somewhat of an outlier in academia. The reason why I kept this account and use nothing under my name is because it kept me semi-anonymous. And I always made sure to keep politics out of my classroom and dugout.

 

Well it seems someone from outside the University has made the connection and circulated screenshots of tweets among students that he/she claims are of a racially biased nature.

 

These here were brought to my attention (including one retweet of someone else); it includes additional commentary added at the bottom, presumably by the person trying to ruin me:

 

Of course, those conclusions are silly, my policy stances do not show racial bias, but the opposite. Many other recent tweets of mine were deliberately ignored by this person who wanted to establish a false narrative, because that narrative would have been thoroughly discredited

 

Here is user name “karl marx” (u can’t make this up!) bringing them to the U’s attention. This is now something w/ which I have to deal even though these are opinions as a private American citizen. A review of my writings do not show anything but respect for people of all races

 

In fact, opposition to racism is inherent in being a principled individualist.

 

I also have a well-documented employment record, in form of stellar performance reviews & student evals that show nothing but respect for all students and care for their well-being. Therefore, I am confident that a full and fair review will ultimately put this to rest.

 

Cancel culture is very real and very sad. It creates an environment where the free expression of ideas is stifled and many people are afraid to be themselves. And it is often fueled by people motivated by vengeance if not retribution.

 

They do it simply because they can.

 

Go back and look at the commentary added to my tweets. Does that really look like someone who is genuinely hurt by my words? Instead, it seems to show someone gleefully celebrating what they think will be another cancellation.

 

Now to anyone who is genuinely hurt or confused by these tweets of mine, I would simply say: let me explain why you shouldn’t be. I can do that. And I would also point out why they are regretfully being used by someone with ulterior and malicious motives.

 

This is why I intend to fight this. This is why I leave the account public and keep up these tweets. We have to take a stand against this awful and destructive trend in American life, where many people with non-leftist political beliefs are made to live in fear.

 

Also: a sincere thanks to the former student who anonymously brought this to my attention. I don’t have Instagram and would not have otherwise seen all of what was being circulated. I don’t know who you are, my friend, but this is also for you.

Okay. You know me and my propensity for speaking truth. Here comes some more truth about me.

 

In August of 1976 (I think that is the correct date), I was about to enter my 3rd year of law school.

 

I attended the American Bar Association annual meeting in Atlanta. I attended a number of ABA functions on the last day and partook of the booze the ABA was serving for free. Too many ABA functions and too much ABA free booze!

 

Driving back to my home in Macon, GA that night, I got pulled and was charged with DUI. I was guilty but a deal was struck at the Bulldog Booster Club meeting and the DUI charge was dismissed by the prosecutor. I apparently had more “pull” as a law student than I have now after 43 years of being a lawyer!

 

But I did have to spend the night in jail waiting to get bonded out. Not a fun learning experience.

 

I have never been charged with DUI since that incident and =I have not touched a drop of alcohol of any kind in the last 8 years. I thank God that he took away the desire and taste. I made up my mind to quit drinking and I did so without any counseling. Again, thank you, God.==

 

My point in telling this truth is how many practicing lawyers in the State of Georgia have pled guilty or been convicted of DUI one or more times?

 

The Bar rule about mental health examinations covers “addiction.” How many of the guilty DUI lawyers in GA has the State Bar demanded submit to a mental health examination? Another good question for Paula Frederick at the State Bar.

 

I think a lawyer driving drunk poses a more serious threat to the public than a lawyer posting messages on social media in the evenings after work from the confines of his or her private home?

It is pretty clear why the GA State Bar is trying to crucify me, isn’t it? It is spelled K-E-M-P, C-O-X, M-E-R-C-E-R, and T-R-U-M-P.

Such acts, laws, orders, rules and regulations include but are not limited to any tax levy, fee, or stamp imposed on firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition not common to all other goods and services…any registration or tracking of firearms, firearm accessories or ammunition…any act ordering the confiscation of firearms, firearm accessories or ammunition…and finally, any act, whether past, present or future passed by the United States Congress and signed into law by the Federal Government and specifically any Presidential Administration which infringes on the people’s right to keep and bear arms in Newton County, Missouri shall be considered null and void by the county and not recognized by this county.

So who’s gonna make sure it’s enforced?

That’d be the Sheriff:

 

Any and all federal agents trying to enforce the regulations listed in Section (1) shall be subject to arrest by the Sheriff’s department.

Missouri’s own constitution lays out the liberty of bearing arms in no uncertain terms:

 

That the right of every citizen to keep and bear arms, ammunition, and accessories typical to the normal function of such arms, in defense of his home, person, family and property, or when lawfully summoned in aid of the civil power, shall not be questioned. The rights guaranteed by this section shall be unalienable. Any restriction on these rights shall be subject to strict scrutiny and the state of Missouri shall be obligated to uphold these rights and shall under no circumstances decline to protect against their infringement.

 

Given the Democrats’ evolved position toward firearms, I’d bet we’re going to see other places following Newton’s lead.

And personally, I don’t think any of this is heartening. It indicates the level of polarization we’re likely to face in the future. Many have said two Americas are forming, and that can’t be helpful in a place called the United States.

But this is where we are, and Missouri’s on the cutting edge. Or…the trigger.

And surely, some across the aisle will be.

A report has come out that former President Donald Trump has told friends of his that he has over 100 million dollars in support to build his own Social Media Platform. This comes as Trump has been banned from Twitter for over a month now and many close to him like General Flynn have been permanently suspended and will never be back on again.

 

Following that Trump hinted and expressed interest in starting his own Social Media Platform saying on Newsmax this past Wednesday, “There is also the option of building your own site because we have more people than anybody, so you can literally build your own site. But we were being really harassed on Twitter. They were putting up all sorts of flags, I guess they call them, they were flagging almost anything you said.”

 

Now Trump seems to have the power and support from donors to build his own site as even some from Silicon Valley have reportedly had enough with Big Tech Censorship and are willing to support his Social Media venture financially. Trump already has the popularity to do so and if he also has the needed financial support then he will be able to launch his own site which would attract many Conservatives and those fleeing the tyranny of Twitter.

 

Many Companies like Parler and Gab have arisen as options instead of Twitter but have problems with accessibility and the user interface.

 

Trump seems to be the right man for the job and we will have to see if he does make a new platform. Either way, his support isn’t shrinking and he has still been able to get his message out on the News but his presence on Twitter will always be missed.

The "trans generation" does not exist. It is true that people have been chemically castrated for most of the last 100 years, in increasing doses over time. However that does NOT translate to a particular generation.

 

As people begin to think for themselves, they tend to reject the extremely narrow, straightjacket-like stereotypes being forced upon young humans whose sexual identities are emerging. The idea that one cannot be both a male AND appreciate fine art; the idea that one cannot be both a female AND enjoy marksmanship matches and primitive camping - these are artificial constructs being forced upon humans as a tool to dehumanize, divide and weaponize our differences.

Myanmar begins general strike in face of military threats

In Myanmar’s largest city, Yangon, tens of thousands gathered in the hot sun, chanting “Release all detained leaders” and “don’t go to office, break away”, while local stores and international chains – including Yum Brands Inc’s KFC and Delivery Hero’s Food Panda – announced closures.

Protesters also turned out en mass in the capital, Naypyidaw, the second-largest city of Mandalay, and various towns across the country, including in Myitkyina, Hpaan, Pyinmana, Dawei and Bhamo.

Htet Htet Hlaing, 22, told Reuters news agency in Yangon that she was scared and had prayed before joining Monday’s demonstration, but would not be discouraged.

“We don’t want the junta, we want democracy. We want to create our own future,” she said. “My mother didn’t stop me from coming out, she only said ‘take care’.”

The crowds were gathering after supporters of the Civil Disobedience Movement, a loosely organised group leading the resistance, called for people to unite on Monday’s date for a “Two Five” or a “Spring Revolution”.

 

‘You will be held accountable’

The military, known locally as the Tatmadaw, warned against the general strike in a public announcement carried on state television broadcaster MRTV late on Sunday.

“It is found that the protesters have raised their incitement towards riot and anarchy mob on the day of 22 February. Protesters are now inciting the people, especially emotional teenagers and youths, to a confrontation path where they will suffer the loss of life,” the onscreen text said in English, replicating the spoken announcement in Burmese.

The military’s statement also blamed criminals for past protest violence, with the result that “the security force members had to fire back”.

Three protesters have been shot dead so far, including a 16-year-old who was shot dead in Mandalay on Saturday and 20-year-old Mya Thwate Thwate Khaing, who was shot in the head at protests in the capital and died from her injuries on Friday.

Tom Andrews, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar, said he was “deeply concerned” about the military’s threat of violence.

“Warning to the junta: Unlike 1988, actions by security forces are being recorded and you will be held accountable,” Andrews wrote on Twitter.

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) said 640 people have now been arrested since the coup began and 594 remain in detention. Myint Oo, a member of parliament, was also among those detained on Sunday night.

The internet was shut down for the eighth night with NetBlocks, which monitors service outages and disruption saying the network dropped to 13 percent of its usual level at 1am on Monday (18:30 GMT on Sunday).

Popularly elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, senior politicians in her National League for Democracy (NLD) and members of the elections commission were arrested in the early hours of February 1.

The military has claimed it had to seize power because of fraud in last November’s elections, which the NLD won in a landslide. The elections commissioned has rejected those claims.

 

On Sunday night, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also condemned the killing of anti-coup protesters in Myanmar.

“The United States will continue to take firm action against those who perpetrate violence against the people of Burma as they demand the restoration of their democratically elected government,” Blinken wrote on Twitter, referring to Myanmar by its former name.

The US has already imposed sanctions on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who led the coup on February 1 and other military officers.

The Pfizer vaccine uses “new technology” which involves inserting a genetic sequence for the coronavirus spike protein into the body to trigger an immune response, according to Pfizer Australia Medical Director Dr Krishan Thiru.

 

“Traditionally vaccines have a weakened part of the actual virus or a part of the virus and that’s introduced into the body and that triggers an immune response,” he told Sky News.

 

“The Pfizer vaccine uses a new technology called an MRNA platform and so it doesn’t actually have any part of the coronavirus in it.

 

“It has the genetic sequence or the blueprint for the spike protein and so it’s introduced through a vaccine, some of the cells in your body produce copies of that spike protein and that triggers an immune response.”

 

Dr Thiru added while studies were yet to provide conclusive evidence on the extent to which the Pfizer vaccine reduced transmission, early research seemed to suggest the treatment does reduce transmission rates.
