Surrounded by alligators, Washington raises the light of liberty.
In "Crossing the Swamp" the swamp was a little deeper and you couldn't see the alligators as well.
The flag is the remnant of the flag carried on the previous boat.
Where did they go?
Of course, the painting is symbolic.
The Capitol was not there at the time of George Washington.
