Dear Fren, Firstly, I count myself least ranking anon when it comes to any proficiency in decodes. When I look at the numbers you discovered I thought maybe it could be a date. I was thinking Herr Leutz was simply living back in the day and would probably paint a date of significance to himself the painter. The Germans sometimes use decimal points between the day.month.year? At first, I looked at his birthday. An almost match for 24MAY2016 if written 16.24.5 but no match. I thought maybe a relative like his dad maybe was born in 1805. Then I thought that maybe since the picture was painted in 1851 I might try and look at that date again. Do you think that might be a 51 at the end?
I don't even know if it might be a common or uncommon thing for a painter to date their paintings. What do you think? I haven't tried looking at other of his paintings. As any anons here will know, this phonefag has been corrected on more than a few occasions as to what I can see so I will leave it to anons who can see with better clarity than myself. See pic related.
