Arizona mayor declares state of emergency, says Biden admin sending busloads of illegal immigrants to his town

The mayor of an Arizona town has declared a state of emergency, claiming that Joe Biden's administration sent him busloads of illegal immigrants while struggling to accommodate thousands of arrivals in a deepening border crisis.

Gila Bend, Arizona, is a town of less than 2,000 people, located halfway between the state capital of Phoenix and Sonoyta, a village on the Mexican side of the border. Mayor Chris Riggs told Fox News on Monday that for the past two weeks, Border Patrol agents have been dropping off busloads of illegal immigrants in Gila Bend, with no further instruction from the government on what to do with them.

“Border Patrol let us know that they were going to be dropping migrants that had been detained for 72 hours in our town, which we really didn’t understand because we have nothing here,” Riggs told FOX Business. He said that he’s been left “completely in the dark” by the Biden administration on what to do with the new arrivals, and has not received any funding to shelter, house or feed the migrants.

Announcing that he would declare a state of emergency in the hope of getting some federal aid, Riggs told Fox that to test two busloads of migrants for Covid-19 every week for a year would cost his town $600,000. In addition to the influx by bus, he said that 20 or so migrants are arriving every day on foot, and violent crime has increased in Gila Bend as a result.

Riggs has appeared on TV multiple times in recent weeks to highlight the same problem. “Quite frankly, it’s going to cost us tens of thousands of dollars a year to be able just to provide them with a bottle of water and a sandwich when they get dropped off,” he told Fox last week. He then spoke to RT, and said dropping migrants off without health and background checks was akin to “opening Pandora’s box.”

Riggs is just the mayor of one small town, but his story illustrates a wider problem along the US’ 2,000-mile border with Mexico.

Russia Blasts Twitter For Being "Too Slow" In Deleting Content "Harmful For Children"

The Kremlin has continued lashing out at Twitter after earlier this month threatening to ban the major US-based social media platform from the country altogether. Its communications watchdog known as Roscomnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media) has charged Twitter with deleting banned and 'illegal' content "too slowly" after repeated high-level requests.

"The rate at which the social network is removing banned information is unsatisfactory," Roscomnadzor said in a statement Tuesday. "Two thirds of material that is harmful for children remains available on Twitter."

The new statement continued by saying Twitter "actually has removed only a third of prohibited content with child pornography, materials pushing children to suicide, advertising the production and use of drugs… The pace of deleting such information is unsatisfactory."

"It's A Very Good Vaccine" - Dr. Fauci Tries To Rationalize AstraZeneca's Latest "Unforced Error"

As for the AstraZeneca vaccine, Dr. Fauci explained during the interview that the DSMB, the agency overseeing all the COVID vaccine trials in the US, became incensed after it saw AstraZeneca publish a press release outlining the main findings from the trial data. That release - which the company later admitted was based on an "interim analysis" - was apparently seen as unsuitably premature by the regulator, which angrily rebuked AstraZeneca in "a rather harsh note" saying they thought the data in the press release "was somewhat outdated and might in fact be misleading a bit" - according to Dr. Fauci's description (he said he had been copied on the email between the DSMB and AstraZeneca).

New York nursing home burns to ground, one resident dead & firefighter missing

One resident is dead, several firefighters are injured and one is still missing, after a nursing home on the outskirts of New York City burned to the ground.

Firefighters battled through the early hours of Tuesday morning to contain a blaze at an assisted living facility in Spring Valley, 25 miles north of Manhattan. Shocking video footage showed the building completely consumed by flames, with its walls only partially intact.

One resident died after being pulled from the blaze, and efforts to rescue others continued through dawn, WCBS reported. Locals reportedly rushed into the burning building to rescue the elderly stranded inside, with some of them physically carried from their burning home.

Two firefighters were injured and taken to hospital, with one suffering a heart attack, reports said. Another was reported missing by WCBS shortly before 8am.

With the fire still smouldering at time of writing, police K-9 units are waiting to sweep through the remains of the facility for any possible victims who failed to make it out in time.

The source of the blaze is still unknown.

Bank Of Canada Ends All Pandemic Bailout Facilities

As largely expected - and forewarned - amid 'excess' liquidity and a 'functioning' market, the Bank of Canada has today confirmed it will end all its pandemic emergency liquidity programs.

“We can take these steps because now there is ample system-wide liquidity for financial institutions to draw from,” Deputy Governor Gravelle said in prepared remarks before the CFA Society Toronto.

The bank left its main government of Canada bond purchase program intact but Gravelle provided some insight into how quantitative easing will eventually be scaled back:

Adjusting the pace of QE purchases won’t necessarily mean that we have changed our views about when we will need to start raising the policy interest rate.

We will review extraordinary actions taken in response to the pandemic to assess whether they were calibrated ideally; whether we could do anything differently in future episodes of market stress.

We are looking at whether any further structural reforms could be made to improve financial system resilience and minimize the likelihood that extraordinary tools will be needed in the future.

We expect our balance sheet to decline to about c$475 billion by the end of April.

Scotland’s Sturgeon ‘misled’ parliamentary committee, says hotly awaited report, in another potential breach of ministerial code

The report claims the First Minister gave ‘an inaccurate account’ of her handling of sexual harassment complaints against her predecessor, Alex Salmond, and accuses her of breaching ministerial protocol.

Published on Tuesday but partially leaked last week, the report gives a damning verdict on Nicola Sturgeon’s participation in the Scottish government’s botched handling of the complaints.

Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) charged with investigating the First Minister and her officials’ handing of complaints against former leader Salmond said they found “it hard to believe” that Sturgeon had “no knowledge of any concerns about inappropriate behaviour on the part of Mr Salmond prior to November 2017”.

If she did have such knowledge, then she should have acted upon it. If she did have such knowledge, then she has misled the committee.

Furthermore, contrary to Sturgeon’s evidence as to her dealings with the allegations against Salmond, the committee found the First Minister “did, in fact, leave Mr Salmond with the impression that she would, if necessary, intervene.”

The report, which concludes there was a “fundamental contradiction” in Sturgeon’s evidence, and suggests she gave “an inaccurate account of what happened”, comes a day after an independent inquiry cleared the First Minister of breaching the ministerial code. Monday’s acquittal also concerned her involvement in the Alex Salmond debacle. She was cleared of wrongdoing, but stands accused of providing an “incomplete narrative of events”.

The First Minister welcomed the results of Monday’s inquiry, claiming it was “comprehensive, evidence-based and unequivocal”, but acknowledged it was up to Parliament to decide whether she misled MSPs.

The long-running Salmond saga has damaged the popularity of the Scottish National Party (SNP), with other parties making gains in the run-up to the Holyrood election on May 6. Sturgeon’s husband and SNP CEO Peter Murrell was also accused of “meddling” with the police investigation into the complaints against Salmond, but the allegations were dismissed by MSPs.

Lawmaker pushes VA to strip benefits from any vet who attended the Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has called on the Department of Veterans Affairs to strip benefits from any service members and veterans who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, according to a Monday report from Business Insider.

Gallego — a veteran himself — stated that those service members' actions are "not representative of the large population of American veterans" and they should be punished accordingly.

What are the details?

Gallego, according to the outlet, asked Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough to withdraw benefits from those active duty service members, veterans, and military retirees who took part in the Jan. 6 riots in Washington, D.C.

In a letter, Gallego wrote, "The behavior of these individuals is not representative of the large population of American veterans, the vast majority of whom served honorably and are appalled by the thought of insurrection in the country they served. Yet, many of the veterans and service members who attacked their own government actively and enthusiastically enjoy special benefits given to them by their fellow citizens."

Gallego continued, "This situation is unjust. Any veteran or service member who stormed the Capitol on January 6th forfeited their moral entitlement to privileged benefits at the expense of the people of the United States."

The outlet noted that Gallego — who is also a member of the House Armed Services Committee — asked McDonough to work alongside U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to identify those veterans and service members who took part in the January riot.

He also sent similar letters to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

A January NPR report noted that almost 20% of the 140 people who were charged with crimes in connection with the riots have a military background.

Since then, federal prosecutors have charged more than 300 people in the attack.

If you Google, “mass shooting surge,” you will be returned results with exactly the same headlines, but for different states.

The headline reads follows: “Mass shootings surge in South Carolina as nation faces record high.” As you continue to scroll down the results, you see this exact same headline for other states like Florida, North Carolina, New York, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Colorado, Louisiana, Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, and others.

In states which didn’t see a rise in mass shootings, a different title was used but with the exact same point. For example, “Mass shootings fall in Georgia, but nation faces record high.” This title was applied to states like George, Indiana, California, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Alabama, and others.

The Biden administration is trying to contain the information for fear of a second immigration scandal.

Ahmad Al Issa, the suspect in the Boulder, Colorado King Soopers shooting, a Syrian migrant to the United States, swore allegiance to ISIS prior to the shooting, says Syrian migration expert and former congressional candidate Laura Loomer.

On her Telegram channel, Loomer wrote, “Source tells me shooter carried out attack in the name of ISIS. Biden admin has already given orders to keep it under wraps to avoid conversation in the media about Islamic terrorism and reversal of trumps travel ban, which the terrorist was opposed to”.

Speaking to National File, Loomer explained that her source is embedded in Boulder, Colorado law enforcement, and spoke to her on condition of anonymity. Loomer explained that the Biden administration was briefed on the shooter’s allegiance to ISIS, and is attempting to contain the information for fear of a second immigration scandal. Joe Biden infamously rescinded President Donald Trump’s travel ban restricting movement from countries known for exporting radical Islamic terrorism.

According to Loomer, the Biden regime is “terrified” that, should this information become public, he will face a new round of criticism for making the country less safe due to his reversal of the Trump administration’s effective immigration policies.

“Joe Biden has blood on his hands because along with Obama, and that’s what his presidency is, it’s a third term extension of the Obama era, we are now returning to the times of daily ISIS attacks,” said Loomer. “Given the fact that Donald Trump is no longer in the White House, ISIS and the illegal alien caravans realize we’re in a position of weakness, which is why there is a crisis at the border, and why ISIS, which had been subdued and totally docile under Trump, is now attacking America.”

Biden’s State Dept Just Deleted a Website Which Chronicled China’s Genocidal Human Rights Abuses.

President Biden’s State Department website deleted a page dedicated to chronicling the Chinese Communist Party’s abuses against Uyghurs.

The site – “The Chinese Communist Party’s Human Rights Abuses in Xinjiang” – contained five sections: “What’s Happening in Xinjiang,” “Forced Population Control,” “Forced Labor” “Violations of Religious Freedom,” and “Secretary Pompeo’s Statements.”

“The Chinese Communist Party is waging a targeted campaign against Uyghur women, men, and children, and members of other Turkic Muslim minority groups in Xinjiang, China. Documented human rights abuses include coercive population control methods, forced labor, arbitrary detention in internment camps, torture, physical and sexual abuse, mass surveillance, family separation, and repression of cultural and religious expression,” an archived version of the site explains.

Now, however, the same link directs users to a defunct page displaying a message: “We apologize for the inconvenience…”

The site appears to have been scrubbed on January 21st, 2021 – the first full day of the Biden regime.

Marc Morano: ‘Lockdowns’ Are ‘Essentially a Model’ for Green New Deal’s ‘Planned Recession’

Democrats and the broader left regularly frame “climate change” as a function of the burning of fossil fuels.

Morano noted lockdown decrees amount to manufactured depressions and are modern manifestations of decades-old left-wing political advocacy marketed as “environmentalism.”

“What is a lockdown but a planned recession?” he asked. “I’ve been to multiple U.N. summits where they actually openly talked about — years ago, long before anyone heard of COVID — [how] we need planned recessions in order to fight global warming. The less economic activity, the better for the planet. … When you now hear that they want a lockdown every other year to fight climate change, that’s consistent with what they’ve been saying since the 1970s.”

Morano noted that Green Fraud contains nearly 100 pages of footnotes documenting claims, proposals, and other statements from left-wing figures — activists, academics, bureaucrats, celebrities, and politicians — regarding “climate change.”

Morano highlighted left-wing advocacy for eating insects as a substitute for meat, ostensibly to combat “global warming.”

Twitter ‘Mistakenly’ Censors Photos of Migrant Overflow Cells

Twitter censored exclusive photos from Project Veritas showing thousands of immigrants sleeping on the floor in tight quarters at a Texas detention center, hiding the content behind a filter marked “potentially sensitive.” Twitter later reversed the censorship, calling it an error.

Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe posted a video featuring a compilation of the photos to Twitter on Monday morning. The video was promptly hidden behind a filter claiming the content was “potentially sensitive,” requiring users with the sensitive content filter to click through the warning message in order to see it.

A Twitter spokeswoman told Breitbart News that the “potentially sensitive content” warning was “incorrectly applied by one of our automated tools and it has since been removed.”

The photos from Project Veritas shed more light on the ongoing border crisis, which has seen over 30,000 migrants apprehended in just one border sector in March.

Joe Biden and the Democrats were highly critical of former President Trump’s imposition of strict immigration controls, and Biden taking office was widely perceived as the start of laxer restrictions.

The Biden administration has appointed a special envoy to contain the border surge, while its press secretary, Jen Psaki, has flip-flopped on admitting that the situation at the border is indeed a crisis.

Left-wing Democrats including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tried to pin the practice of keeping “kids in cages” on President Trump, as part of a wider effort to cast the former President as uniquely hostile to immigrants, even though the practice was widely used under President Obama.

Photos of migrant children in detention centers were widely shared on Twitter under President Trump without being subject to any high-profile incidents of censorship.

President Biden has insisted that his approach is “much different,” because “we have people there helping them.”

Escobar said, “I first want to say, my heart goes out to everyone in Boulder and in Colorado because this is not the first horrible, violent attack on their community. So they’ve lived through a lot. You know, in the Congress, the House of Representatives last week, for the second time, we passed two important initial pieces on gun violence prevention. The problem is in the Senate. Even with the slim majority, because of the filibuster, it’s going to be very, very difficult to get anything done.”

She continued, “We need to do away with the filibuster. What we’re seeing happening in America is Republicans in the Senate are more interested in eroding voting laws and increasing gun rights when really it should be the other way around. We need to look at making sure that we have safe communities and that people aren’t afraid and terrified of going to the grocery store or going to a school. And the majority of Americans support common-sense gun violence prevention legislation, but we can’t get anything done in the Senate because a majority doesn’t rule. It’s the filibuster that rules.”

She added, “The inaction that’s occurred is costing people their lives. El Paso knows only too well. We suffered a horrific attack on our community on August 3rd, 2019. I had hoped that that would have been a wake-up call, not just on gun violence but on our hate epidemic in this country. But if Congress can’t act or won’t act because of one vehicle, which is the filibuster, let’s do away with it and give the American public —the majority of the American public the reform that they’re asking for.”

Biden Admin Finally Releases Images of Unaccompanied Minor Detention Center in Texas

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials finally released photos and video from inside unaccompanied migrant minor holding facilities in Texas. The disclosures came one day after a Texas congressman and Project Veritas released leaked images from inside the Donna, Texas, facility.

“CBP continues to transfer unaccompanied minors to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as quickly and efficiently as possible after they are apprehended on the Southwest Border,” officials said in a written statement. “In order to protect the health and safety of our workforce and those in our care we continue to discourage external visitors in our facilities; however, CBP is working to balance the need for public transparency and accountability.”

Monday morning, Axios published leaked photos provided by U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Breitbart Texas reported. A few hours later, Project Veritas began tweeting photos and video leaked from inside the facility.

Italian Television Presenter Brutally Attacked While Filming Migrant Drug Dealers

Italian television presenter Vittorio Brumotti and his cameraman were attacked by a group of migrants while trying to film a drug dealing area in the city of Reggio Emilia.

Mr Brumotti, who appears on the satirical Italian television programme Striscia la Notizia, was attacked along with his colleague nearly immediately after arriving in the Reggiane neighbourhood, the former location of a major factory in the city that has largely turned into a drug-dealing area.

According to a report from the Italian newspaper Il Giornale, Brumotti was attacked by mostly African migrants who threw stones and bottles from the upper floors of the disused factories.

Brumotti and his cameraman immediately called the police. Within a few minutes, a dozen local police and Carabinieri arrived, but the migrants had dispersed to nearby camps and officers were unable to identify the attackers.

The assault comes just three weeks after Brumotti was attacked in the city of Brescia, again by a violent migrant. The presenter published a video of the attack on Instagram, which showed an African migrant trying to attack him and his crew in their van:

Migrants Pay $500 for Fake UN Documents to Travel Through Mexico

Cartel-connected human smugglers are selling fake United Nations documents to migrants who want to move freely through Mexico as they travel to the U.S. border.

Federal law enforcement officials in Mexico revealed exclusive details to Breitbart Texas about an investigation targeting document forgers. At a cost of $300 to $500 USD, “guides” or human smugglers offer a fake document packet from the United Nations Refugee Agency and a Mexican ID card. Document dealers promise safe passage and eventual entry in the U.S.

Authorities first learned of the case earlier this year when they intercepted a group of 20 Central American migrants with forged documents at a checkpoint in Galeana, Nuevo Leon.

The migrants told authorities that “guides” sold the documents and claimed they were legitimate. The documents falsely present the migrants as refugees under “humanitarian reasons” and should confer legal status to travel through Mexico.

Since that initial discovery, Mexican immigration officials found several groups of migrants with the same documents at checkpoints across the country, prompting the National Immigration Institute to issue an alert about forgeries.

Kansas Geological Survey: Recent earthquakes may not be from natural causes

Wichita, Kan. (KSNW) – You’ve likely felt one of the recent quakes in Wichita this month. There have been more than ten. Kansas geological survey says evidence shows they may be man-made.

“If it is induced, what’s causing it?” said Rick Miller with Kansas geological Survey. “But from a seismic perspective it did not have the characteristics of a natural one.”

Miller says small quakes have been happening in Wichita since the early 1900s. Most are just too small to be felt. He added that the recent swarm of quakes could come from water injection wells within a 15-mile radius of the recent quakes’ epicenters.

Kansas Independent Oil and Gas (KIOGA) operators chimed in on the matter. “Certainly this is one scientist and his perspective right now, we need to learn more,” said Ken White with White Exploration.

White also sits as a KIOGA representative with the Kansas Corporation Commission.

The Kansas Corporation Commission has throttled some wastewater injections along the Kansas/Oklahoma border in recent years after some larger earthquakes that occurred in Sumner and Harper counties. “Too quick to make any hard and fast conclusions on what’s happened here in Wichita,” said White.

White says there is not a large amount of wastewater injection in the area where recent quakes originated.

Miller says they are studying and gathering data. “And then when the events happened (Wichita quakes) in March, that kind of kicked it up because now you can look at it in terms of the probabilities,” he said. “The probability of having this many, 17 felt events in this period of time compared to the three prior, was just significantly outside of our recursion relationship on seismicity as it is currently studied,” Miller added.

Screen shots of the Facebook page taken by Twitter users reveal that Al Issa was a devout Muslim who believed in conspiracy theories.

Ahmad Al Issa’s profile was abruptly removed from the website, internet archive websites including the Archive.is and the Wayback machine, and Google’s cache nearly simultaneously.

Ahmad Al-Issa’s purported Facebook page, which has now been removed, included a lot of anti-Trump messaging, as well as pro-Islam messages.

He also appeared to be a reader of PBS, The Intercept, and The Washington Post.

Like clockwork, the narrative is already shifting to “mental illness,” with Al-Issa’s brother calling him “very anti-social” and paranoid, adding that, in high school, he would describe “being chased, someone is behind him, someone is looking for him.”

Ali Aliwi Al-Issa told The Daily Beast:“When he was having lunch with my sister in a restaurant, he said, ‘People are in the parking lot, they are looking for me.’ She went out, and there was no one. Michael Sherwin, the Trump-appointed former acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, broke protocol by not seeking department approval for the interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, people briefed on the matter told CNN.

The remarks reportedly infuriated senior officials in the department, where new Attorney General Merrick Garland is pushing for a 'no drama' policy and discouraging comments on active investigations.

'It's flat out improper,' David Laufman, a former Justice prosecutor, told CNN of Sherwin's interview. 'I don't think it's OK for an [assistant US attorney] to be talking to the media about what charges are appropriate in a case under investigation.'

Among his other remarks, Sherwin said he believed sedition charges were supported for some of the rioters who participated – a comment that could hem in senior officials who are currently weighing whether to bring the politically controversial charges.

Sherwin supervised the early weeks of investigations into the Capitol riot through March 3, before handing off the investigation to return to Miami, where he serves as an assistant US attorney.

The probe has so far criminally charged 400 people for their actions on January 6, and he said on Sunday that Trump was also being investigated.

'We have people looking at everything,' Sherwin told 60 Minutes. 'Everything's being looked at.'

'It's unequivocal that Trump was the magnet that brought the people to D.C. on the 6th,' said Sherwin.

'Now the question is, is he criminally culpable for everything that happened during the siege, during the breach?'

The idea has been heavily criticised since its inception, with project director Frank Keutsch even calling the need for this scale of geo-engineering 'terrifying'.

And experts have warned that the unusual technique could be disastrous for weather systems in ways nobody can predict.

Backed by a range of private donors including Gates, the test mission is launching from Sweden as they could offer a launch by the end of this summer.

U.S. Health Officials Raise Concerns Over AstraZeneca Vaccine Data==

Independent monitoring board working with AstraZeneca in U.S. trials said company may have relied on out of date information

U.S. officials said they were told AstraZeneca AZN 4.04%▲ PLC may have released outdated information in its disclosure of trial results for its Covid-19 vaccine that could have “provided an incomplete view of the efficacy data.”

The statement from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases came a day after AstraZeneca released interim data from large-scale U.S. trials that it said found its Covid-19 vaccine to be 79% effective in preventing symptomatic disease.

The results served as a vote of confidence in the shot, which has been clouded by uncertainty over previous, confusing efficacy results and large-scale production problems. More recently, reported cases of unusual blood clotting in Europe raised concerns about the vaccine’s safety, though European regulators have recommended its continued use.

In a highly unusual statement early Tuesday morning, NIAID said an independent data monitoring board working with AstraZeneca in conducting its trials raised concerns about the company’s disclosures and had urged AstraZeneca to work with it to ensure that the most accurate, up-to-date efficacy data would be made public.

NIAID said the monitoring board, an independent body that works alongside a drug company to conduct trials, “expressed concern that AstraZeneca may have included outdated information from that trial.” The agency said it was urging AstraZeneca “to review the efficacy data and ensure the most accurate, up-to-date efficacy data be made public as quickly as possible.”

The statement was a significant deviation from what are usually carefully scripted drug trial releases—done in coordination with medicines regulators and with regard to how they might affect public perception of safety, as well as how they might affect a company’s share price. Pollard defends spying in rare interview: US ‘stabbed Israel in the back’

Convicted spy, who moved to the Jewish state after his parole ended last year, says ‘I know I crossed a line, but I had no choice’

Jonathan Pollard, an American who served a 30-year sentence for spying for Israel, defended his actions in his first interview since arriving in Israel late last year. He said America had “stabbed Israel in the back” by withholding intelligence from its ally.

In excerpts from the interview with the Israel Hayom daily published Monday, Pollard described his happiness at being a free man in Israel while expressing regret that he was not able to father children because of his incarceration.

Pollard, now 66, sold military secrets to Israel while working as a civilian intelligence analyst for the US Navy in the 1980s. He was arrested in 1985 after trying unsuccessfully to gain asylum at the Israeli Embassy in Washington and pleaded guilty. The espionage affair embarrassed Israel and tarnished its relations with the United States for years.

Pollard was given a life sentence. US defense and intelligence officials said his spying caused great damage and strenuously argued against his release. But after serving 30 years in federal prison, he was released in 2015 and placed on a five-year parole period. Pollard arrived in Israel to a hero’s welcome in December.

GOP lawmakers move to expose foreign money in US think tanks

New legislation introduced by three Republican members of Congress would set a new bar for transparency in funding from think tanks receiving foreign funding. The legislation — “Think Tank and Nonprofit Influence Disclosure Act of 2021” — aims to “root out foreign funding behind America’s policy research institutions” by requiring disclosure of foreign governments and foreign political parties that contribute in excess $50,000 per year to think tanks.

The requirement for think tanks to disclose their foreign sources of funding is particularly focused on revealing the extent of Chinese government-linked funding of think tanks, but the bills sponsors — Reps. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), and Jim Banks (R-Ind.) — emphasized that the extent of foreign influence in U.S. think tanks is a far reaching problem.

“Experts believe there are numerous foreign governments backing American think tanks and nonprofits, and that the Chinese Communist Party and Russian government are among those who seek to influence U.S. policymakers in this way,” said a press release from Gooden’s office.

The Republican bill closely closely reflects the policy recommendations in last year’s report by Ben Freeman, director of the Foreign Influence Transparency Initiative at the Center for International Policy, which found that $174 million in foreign funding went to top U.S. think tanks between 2014 and 2018, and advised that “think tanks should be required, by law, to publicly disclose funding from foreign powers.”

A Responsible Statecraft and American Prospect investigation in January found that the House Foreign Affairs Committee, of which Wilson is a member, was regularly briefed by experts affiliated with think tanks that refuse to provide transparency into their funding sources.

Of the 237 think tank–affiliated witnesses who spoke before the House Foreign Affairs Committee over the past two congresses, under 30 percent of them appeared on behalf of institutions that fully disclose their major donors.

Unnamed Western Officials Spread Dubious Claims About Iran

Reports claim without evidence that Iran considered attacking a DC Army base and that Iran is hiding a nuclear program that could be used to make weapons

With a possible revival of the Iran nuclear deal on the table, there are many forces at work opposing a US return to the accord, known as the JCPOA. One form this opposition takes is through anonymous leaks to Western media outlets that are happy to publish whatever intelligence officials tell them to. This week, two dubiously-sourced reports came out that accused Iran of plotting an attack in Washington and operating a secret nuclear program. Missing from the stories was any evidence to back up the claims.

On Sunday, The Associated Press published a story that cited “two senior US intelligence officials” who claimed that Iran made threats against Fort McNair, a waterfront Army base in Washington DC. The officials said the NSA intercepted communications of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps discussing possible “USS Cole-style attacks” on Fort McNair, referring to the 2000 attack on a US Navy destroyer off Yemen that was launched using a small explosive-laden boat. The AP story offers no other evidence to back up the claim besides the word of the unnamed officials.

Iran hawks benefit from such stories since it gives the US more reasons not to return to the JCPOA. But another reason to hype a threat to Fort McNair was explained in the AP story. The US Army wants to create a security buffer zone extending 250 to 500 feet into the water of the Washington Channel, the busy waterway that Fort McNair sits on. Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC’s representative to Congress, has been fighting this buffer zone and said the military has shown her no evidence that constitutes a threat big enough to justify it.

“I have asked the Department of Defense to withdraw the rule because I’ve seen no evidence of a credible threat that would support the proposed restriction,” Norton said. “I have a security clearance. And they have yet to show me any classified evidence.” The AP doesn’t explain these doubts until a few paragraphs into the story, so most readers with faith in the outlet that read the headline and skimmed a few paragraphs are left believing Iran is considering attacking Washington.

Jewish paper apologises after mocking '100,000 Palestinians shot by Israeli soldiers'

A newspaper serving the orthodox Jewish community of New York and New Jersey has apologised for joking about Israeli soldiers shooting Palestinians. A February edition of the Jewish Link appeared to mock the death of Palestinians by running the headline, "100,000 Palestinians shot by Israeli soldiers." It joked that Palestinians were volunteering to be shot by the Israeli "Sharpshooters" unit that is dispensing the COVID-19 vaccine.

The article said that Israel was dispensing the vaccine free to Palestinians so as "to improve relations with its Arab neighbors," and the "doses are being injected by an elite unit of Israeli soldiers, who are specially trained in the use of hypodermic needles."

Mocking the death of Palestinians the article said that the Health Ministry was "skeptical that Palestinians would volunteer to be shot by the Israeli military," but "to their surprise, in the program's first week, more than 100,000 Palestinians were vaccinated." Continuing to mock the death of Palestinians the piece went on to say that "after all the Arabs are shot once, we look forward to shooting them a second time…"

Though it was claimed the piece was a "Purim satire", which is a Jewish holiday celebrating the biblical story of Queen Esther overthrowing a Persian plot to kill Jews, it triggered a backlash.

The writer/musician Rich Siegel wrote a letter to the editor of the Jewish Link saying that "any decent person would find [the item] to be in extremely bad taste."

"In case you don't understand why your joke is beyond offensive, let me remind you that many many thousands of Palestinians and other Arabs have been shot and killed, or shot and maimed, in the bloody history of your racist apartheid country…"

"What would your response be if anyone were to make jokes about Auschwitz?"

The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and American Muslims for Palestine of New Jersey also criticised the paper for making light of violence against Palestinians.

"Suggesting the systematic murder of 100,000 people of an oppressed minority will never make for good comedy," Selaedin Maksut, the executive director of CAIR-NJ, said in a statement, reported the Times of Israel.

Acknowledging their mistake the paper published an apology. "We apologize," read a brief statement in last Thursday's edition of the Link, which included a letter of complaint from the president of the Muslim Society of Bergen County. "It was offensive, in poor taste, and we regret it." The article was removed from the online version of the paper.

Guard Troops Ambushed in Texas, Held at Gunpoint While Transporting COVID-19 Vaccines

An armed Arizona man allegedly ambushed 11 National Guard troops transporting COVID-19 vaccines in Texas and held them at gunpoint Monday after an extensive chase on a highway, authorities said.

That morning, police say a gunman followed three vans of troops transporting vaccines from a Love's Travel Station for 10 miles. The suspect, 66-year-old Larry Harris, allegedly made multiple attempts to run the Guard members off the road, according to a statement from Idalou Police Chief Eric Williams.

Williams said Harris turned his vehicle into oncoming traffic and stopped the National Guard vans. The troops were unarmed, Williams told Military.com in a phone call. He added that Homeland Security investigators are expected to bring federal charges. It is typical for Guardsmen to be unarmed on domestic missions such as coronavirus relief.

Harris allegedly pointed a Colt 1911 .45 caliber pistol at the troops, falsely identified himself as a detective and accused the soldiers of kidnapping a woman and child.

No service members or police were injured. Idalou officers took Harris into custody without incident. Police said in a statement that Harris had additional magazines on his person and in his vehicle.

"Mr. Harris appeared to be mentally disturbed. This was a very dangerous situation since the suspect was standing in the midst of the unarmed Guardsman with a loaded weapon, then the Idalou officers arrived on scene," Williams said. "We are grateful that the officers were able to take him into custody without any of the Guardsmen, the officers or the suspect getting hurt."

Harris was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful restraint of the 11 soldiers, unlawful carrying of a weapon, impersonating a public servant and interference with Texas military forces. He remains in custody at Lubbock County Detention Center. It is unclear if he is receiving any mental health evaluations or treatment; officials with the jail have not yet responded to a request for comment. According to jail records, Harris has not yet hired a lawyer.

There are 31,000 troops deployed across the country for coronavirus relief, according to the National Guard Bureau. These missions include food distribution and facilitating coronavirus testing. Troops also serve as a critical tool to administer vaccines in support of President Joe Biden’s goal to return the country to relative normalcy by Independence Day.
