Arizona mayor declares state of emergency, says Biden admin sending busloads of illegal immigrants to his town

 

The mayor of an Arizona town has declared a state of emergency, claiming that Joe Biden's administration sent him busloads of illegal immigrants while struggling to accommodate thousands of arrivals in a deepening border crisis.

 

Gila Bend, Arizona, is a town of less than 2,000 people, located halfway between the state capital of Phoenix and Sonoyta, a village on the Mexican side of the border. Mayor Chris Riggs told Fox News on Monday that for the past two weeks, Border Patrol agents have been dropping off busloads of illegal immigrants in Gila Bend, with no further instruction from the government on what to do with them.

 

β€œBorder Patrol let us know that they were going to be dropping migrants that had been detained for 72 hours in our town, which we really didn’t understand because we have nothing here,” Riggs told FOX Business. He said that he’s been left β€œcompletely in the dark” by the Biden administration on what to do with the new arrivals, and has not received any funding to shelter, house or feed the migrants.

 

Announcing that he would declare a state of emergency in the hope of getting some federal aid, Riggs told Fox that to test two busloads of migrants for Covid-19 every week for a year would cost his town $600,000. In addition to the influx by bus, he said that 20 or so migrants are arriving every day on foot, and violent crime has increased in Gila Bend as a result.

 

Riggs has appeared on TV multiple times in recent weeks to highlight the same problem. β€œQuite frankly, it’s going to cost us tens of thousands of dollars a year to be able just to provide them with a bottle of water and a sandwich when they get dropped off,” he told Fox last week. He then spoke to RT, and said dropping migrants off without health and background checks was akin to β€œopening Pandora’s box.”

 

Riggs is just the mayor of one small town, but his story illustrates a wider problem along the US’ 2,000-mile border with Mexico.

Russia Blasts Twitter For Being "Too Slow" In Deleting Content "Harmful For Children"

 

The Kremlin has continued lashing out at Twitter after earlier this month threatening to ban the major US-based social media platform from the country altogether. Its communications watchdog known as Roscomnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media) has charged Twitter with deleting banned and 'illegal' content "too slowly" after repeated high-level requests.

 

"The rate at which the social network is removing banned information is unsatisfactory," Roscomnadzor said in a statement Tuesday. "Two thirds of material that is harmful for children remains available on Twitter."

 

The new statement continued by saying Twitter "actually has removed only a third of prohibited content with child pornography, materials pushing children to suicide, advertising the production and use of drugs… The pace of deleting such information is unsatisfactory."

That release - which the company later admitted was based on an "interim analysis" - was apparently seen as unsuitably premature by the regulator, which angrily rebuked AstraZeneca in "a rather harsh note" saying they thought the data in the press release "was somewhat outdated and might in fact be misleading a bit" - according to Dr. Fauci's description (he said he had been copied on the email between the DSMB and AstraZeneca).

New York nursing home burns to ground, one resident dead & firefighter missing

 

One resident is dead, several firefighters are injured and one is still missing, after a nursing home on the outskirts of New York City burned to the ground.

 

Firefighters battled through the early hours of Tuesday morning to contain a blaze at an assisted living facility in Spring Valley, 25 miles north of Manhattan. Shocking video footage showed the building completely consumed by flames, with its walls only partially intact.

 

One resident died after being pulled from the blaze, and efforts to rescue others continued through dawn, WCBS reported. Locals reportedly rushed into the burning building to rescue the elderly stranded inside, with some of them physically carried from their burning home.

 

Two firefighters were injured and taken to hospital, with one suffering a heart attack, reports said. Another was reported missing by WCBS shortly before 8am.

 

With the fire still smouldering at time of writing, police K-9 units are waiting to sweep through the remains of the facility for any possible victims who failed to make it out in time.

 

The source of the blaze is still unknown.

Bank Of Canada Ends All Pandemic Bailout Facilities

 

As largely expected - and forewarned - amid 'excess' liquidity and a 'functioning' market, the Bank of Canada has today confirmed it will end all its pandemic emergency liquidity programs.

 

β€œWe can take these steps because now there is ample system-wide liquidity for financial institutions to draw from,” Deputy Governor Gravelle said in prepared remarks before the CFA Society Toronto.

 

The bank left its main government of Canada bond purchase program intact but Gravelle provided some insight into how quantitative easing will eventually be scaled back:

 

BoC is evaluating how the process of adjusting ongoing purchases of GoC bonds could unfold.

 

Adjusting the pace of QE purchases won’t necessarily mean that we have changed our views about when we will need to start raising the policy interest rate.

 

Eventually, we will reach a point where the outcomes outlined in our forward guidance have been achieved, then we will need to start raising our policy rate to achieve our inflation objective.

 

We will review extraordinary actions taken in response to the pandemic to assess whether they were calibrated ideally; whether we could do anything differently in future episodes of market stress.

 

We are looking at whether any further structural reforms could be made to improve financial system resilience and minimize the likelihood that extraordinary tools will be needed in the future.

 

We expect our balance sheet to decline to about c$475 billion by the end of April.

 

Gravelle finally noted the bank can reactivate any market programs should stressed conditions ever re-emerge.

Scotland’s Sturgeon β€˜misled’ parliamentary committee, says hotly awaited report, in another potential breach of ministerial code

 

The report claims the First Minister gave β€˜an inaccurate account’ of her handling of sexual harassment complaints against her predecessor, Alex Salmond, and accuses her of breaching ministerial protocol.

 

Published on Tuesday but partially leaked last week, the report gives a damning verdict on Nicola Sturgeon’s participation in the Scottish government’s botched handling of the complaints.

 

Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) charged with investigating the First Minister and her officials’ handing of complaints against former leader Salmond said they found β€œit hard to believe” that Sturgeon had β€œno knowledge of any concerns about inappropriate behaviour on the part of Mr Salmond prior to November 2017”.

 

If she did have such knowledge, then she should have acted upon it. If she did have such knowledge, then she has misled the committee.

 

Furthermore, contrary to Sturgeon’s evidence as to her dealings with the allegations against Salmond, the committee found the First Minister β€œdid, in fact, leave Mr Salmond with the impression that she would, if necessary, intervene.”

 

The report, which concludes there was a β€œfundamental contradiction” in Sturgeon’s evidence, and suggests she gave β€œan inaccurate account of what happened”, comes a day after an independent inquiry cleared the First Minister of breaching the ministerial code. Monday’s acquittal also concerned her involvement in the Alex Salmond debacle. She was cleared of wrongdoing, but stands accused of providing an β€œincomplete narrative of events”.

 

The First Minister welcomed the results of Monday’s inquiry, claiming it was β€œcomprehensive, evidence-based and unequivocal”, but acknowledged it was up to Parliament to decide whether she misled MSPs.

 

The long-running Salmond saga has damaged the popularity of the Scottish National Party (SNP), with other parties making gains in the run-up to the Holyrood election on May 6. Sturgeon’s husband and SNP CEO Peter Murrell was also accused of β€œmeddling” with the police investigation into the complaints against Salmond, but the allegations were dismissed by MSPs.

A reporter for the Asbury Park Press in New Jersey is no longer working for the Gannett-owned newspaper after publication of an offensive photo caption over the weekend

 

The caption, posted Sunday under a photo of a nurse preparing to vaccinate someone, described her as a "fβ€”ing hot nurse" and used the acronym for the slur Jewish American Princess. It was taken down shortly after publication.

 

"This was an inexcusable act. The objectification of women and religious insults are intentional actions," Paul D'Ambrosio, the paper's executive editor, wrote in a message Tuesday on the Asbury Park Press website. "The reporter in question is no longer with the company."

 

D'Ambrosio did not mention the name of the reporter, but the New Jersey Globe, which first broke the story, identified the reporter as Gustavo Martinez Contreras.

 

D'Ambrosia did not immediately respond to The Hill's request for comment. Contreras could not be reached.

 

The newspaper is also changing its photo approval process in the wake of the scandal, according to D'Ambrosio's public post and internal documents seen by The Hill.

 

"Our credibility in the community is paramount to our success," D'Ambrosia said in an email to the paper's staff. "Whatever delays the above SOP cause are irrelevant compared to the damage [of the] offensive sentence."

 

He also asked staffers to "avoid commenting on this matter on social media or any media people who may reach out to you."

 

D'Ambrosio said in his public statement that the caption made it online because of a "system [that] does allow staffers to publish directly to our website and mobile app. We trust the professionalism of our employees and know speed can be important when covering breaking news. This system has been in use for nearly a decade, and across our suite of 250-plus publications, we have not had a similar incident to this one."

 

D'Ambrosio told staffers in his memo that going forward, "all photo captions and photo galleries must be reviewed by two sets of eyes" and those reviewers have to put their initials beside their approvals.

 

"As the content creator, it is your responsibility to ask the coach or producer or even another staffer to review the package in a timely fashion to ensure the above is never repeated," D'Ambrosia added.

Lawmaker pushes VA to strip benefits from any vet who attended the Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has called on the Department of Veterans Affairs to strip benefits from any service members and veterans who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, according to a Monday report from Business Insider.

 

Gallego β€” a veteran himself β€” stated that those service members' actions are "not representative of the large population of American veterans" and they should be punished accordingly.

Gallego, according to the outlet, asked Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough to withdraw benefits from those active duty service members, veterans, and military retirees who took part in the Jan. 6 riots in Washington, D.C.

 

In a letter, Gallego wrote, "The behavior of these individuals is not representative of the large population of American veterans, the vast majority of whom served honorably and are appalled by the thought of insurrection in the country they served. Yet, many of the veterans and service members who attacked their own government actively and enthusiastically enjoy special benefits given to them by their fellow citizens."

 

Gallego continued, "This situation is unjust. Any veteran or service member who stormed the Capitol on January 6th forfeited their moral entitlement to privileged benefits at the expense of the people of the United States."

 

The outlet noted that Gallego β€” who is also a member of the House Armed Services Committee β€” asked McDonough to work alongside U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to identify those veterans and service members who took part in the January riot.

 

He also sent similar letters to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

 

A January NPR report noted that almost 20% of the 140 people who were charged with crimes in connection with the riots have a military background.

 

Since then, federal prosecutors have charged more than 300 people in the attack.

The Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act of 2021 would, for the first time, make it an explicit federal crime to act as a straw purchaser of firearms. The bill would also create penalties for anyone who transfers a firearm with reasonable cause to believe that it will be used in a drug crime, crime of violence, or act of terrorism. These reforms would help keep guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals and reduce safety risks for law enforcement officers confronting criminals and criminal organizations.

 

Leahy said: β€œFor years I’ve heard from many, many in law enforcement that the so-called β€˜paperwork offenses’ used to prosecute straw purchasing and the weak firearms trafficking laws do little to prevent criminals from illegally obtaining firearms. Congress must do more to stop straw purchasing, and the time to act is now. Our bipartisan bill received 58 votes on the Senate Floor in 2013, more than any other gun safety bill at the time. This commonsense bill with strong law enforcement support, is a great starting point in our legislative efforts to address the gun violence epidemic in our country.”

 

Collins said: β€œStraw purchasing is intended to achieve one result: to put a gun in the hands of a criminal who cannot legally obtain one. Today, traffickers, in particular, exploit weaknesses in federal law by targeting people who can lawfully purchase guns. Then, those traffickers use those guns to commit crimes or sell them to other criminals. This practice also fuels the opioid epidemic that is taking a devastating toll on all of our communities. Police officers in Maine tell me about the familiar patterns they see: drug dealers and gang members, often from out-of-state and with criminal records, cross into Maine and approach drug addicts to be their straw buyers in exchange for heroin. Our bill will help keep guns out of the hands of criminals without infringing upon the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.”

 

β€œChicago and cities across the country are flooded with guns that have been illicitly trafficked into the area from states with weaker gun laws. Oftentimes, these guns wind up in the hands of people who are legally barred from possessing one,” Durbin said. β€œOur bill would crack down on this gun trafficking and straw purchasing and help increase safety in our communities.”

 

The Senators introduced this bipartisan measure ahead of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s gun violence hearing on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, entitled β€œConstitutional and Common Sense Steps to Reduce Gun Violence.” The bill does not affect lawful purchases from federal firearms licensees. The Biden administration is trying to contain the information for fear of a second immigration scandal.

 

Ahmad Al Issa, the suspect in the Boulder, Colorado King Soopers shooting, a Syrian migrant to the United States, swore allegiance to ISIS prior to the shooting, says Syrian migration expert and former congressional candidate Laura Loomer.

 

On her Telegram channel, Loomer wrote, β€œSource tells me shooter carried out attack in the name of ISIS. Biden admin has already given orders to keep it under wraps to avoid conversation in the media about Islamic terrorism and reversal of trumps travel ban, which the terrorist was opposed to”.

 

Speaking to National File, Loomer explained that her source is embedded in Boulder, Colorado law enforcement, and spoke to her on condition of anonymity. Loomer explained that the Biden administration was briefed on the shooter’s allegiance to ISIS, and is attempting to contain the information for fear of a second immigration scandal. Joe Biden infamously rescinded President Donald Trump’s travel ban restricting movement from countries known for exporting radical Islamic terrorism.

 

According to Loomer, the Biden regime is β€œterrified” that, should this information become public, he will face a new round of criticism for making the country less safe due to his reversal of the Trump administration’s effective immigration policies.

 

β€œJoe Biden has blood on his hands because along with Obama, and that’s what his presidency is, it’s a third term extension of the Obama era, we are now returning to the times of daily ISIS attacks,” said Loomer. β€œGiven the fact that Donald Trump is no longer in the White House, ISIS and the illegal alien caravans realize we’re in a position of weakness, which is why there is a crisis at the border, and why ISIS, which had been subdued and totally docile under Trump, is now attacking America.”

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Tuesday called for Congress to once again pass the Federal Assault Weapons Ban in the wake of the deadly mass shooting in Boulder, Colo., Monday evening after reports that the suspected shooter had an assault rifle.

 

Feinstein said at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence, which was scheduled before the Colorado shooting and last week’s deadly attacks on massage parlors in Atlanta, that she has 35 co-sponsors behind the bill. She first authored the bill in 1993 before it was officially signed into law the year after.

 

However, the ban expired in 2004, and Feinstein on Tuesday said she has since watched as β€œassault weapons have become the weapon of choice in mass shootings.”

 

β€œYesterday, our country was forced to endure yet another mass shooting, 10 people dead, including a police officer. All our hearts go out to all the families who lost a loved one yesterday, and the law enforcement who risk their lives in the line of duty,” she said.

 

β€œBut, that doesn’t cure the problem,” added Feinstein.

 

Feinstein on Tuesday said that from 1994 until the ban expired in 2004, violent gun massacres experienced a 37 percent decrease, and deaths from shootings fell by 43 percent.

 

The Democratic senator added that in the 10 years after the ban expired, β€œthere was a 183 percent increase in massacres, and a 239 percent increase in massacre deaths.”

 

Feinstein also noted that 10 days before Monday’s shooting, a court blocked a Boulder assault weapons ban that had been in place since 2018.

 

According to The Associated Press, authorities said the suspected shooter purchased the rifle used in Monday’s shooting six days prior to the attack.

 

Feinstein explained that the threat of gun violence continues to increase during the pandemic, citing a New York Times report that found 2 million guns were purchased in March 2020 as fears on COVID-19 spread, marking the second highest month on record for gun sales in the U.S.

 

β€œI am so concerned about the rise in gun sales and the increased pressure being put on the background check system,” Feinstein said. β€œI’m also concerned about the number of people who have guns, but would not have passed a complete FBI investigation.”

 

These things are not going to stop, members, they’re just not,” she continued. β€œI’ve sat here for a quarter of a century listening. They don’t stop. And if you give people the ability to easily purchase a weapon that can be devastating to large numbers of people, some of them will use that, under stress or for whatever reason.”

 

President Biden throughout his campaign threw support behind legislation banning the manufacturing and sale of assault weapons, and on Tuesday renewed these calls by specifically urging Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as close loopholes in the background check system.

 

β€œI don’t need to wait another minute let alone an hour to take common sense steps that will save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act,” Biden said in remarks from the White House.

False Claims Act Example 1

 

I want to talk today about the most recent limitations the courts have imposed on the False Claims Act.

 

The False Claims Act was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, to fight fraud against the Union Army during the Civil War.

 

Today, it is the government’s most powerful anti-fraud statute.

 

That’s because amendments that I authored in 1986 empowered whistleblowers to sue fraudsters on the government’s behalf.

 

Since then, we’ve recovered more than $64 billion in taxpayer money lost to fraud.

 

Now, when we talk about anti-fraud statutes like the False Claims Act, we use the term β€œmateriality.”

 

The False Claims Act defines materiality as β€œhaving a natural tendency to influence or be capable of influencing the payment or receipt of money or property.”

 

Basically, if the government could have withheld payment, then it was likely material.

 

However, based on a 2016 Supreme Court opinion, the federal courts are trying to reshape the Act’s materiality requirement.

 

In the Supreme Court’s opinion in the Escobar case: β€œ[I]f the Government pays a particular claim in full despite its actual knowledge that certain requirements were violated, that is very strong evidence that those requirements are not material.”

 

Citing this language, courts have made the government’s payment decision in these cases a deciding factor.

 

Now, the Justice Department shies away from prosecuting them.

 

Even when the fraud is obvious, and obviously material.

 

Recently, the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction briefed me on a report about a botched Defense Department effort to quickly buy cargo planes from an Italian manufacturer called Alenia.

 

In 2009, the DoD bought 20 cargo planes from Alenia for $549 million.

 

These planes were intended to move goods and train Afghan pilots.

 

The contract required the manufacturer to refurbish 20 retired aircraft and provide enough spare parts for ten years of maintenance.

 

To seal the deal, the company even took DoD personnel on several warehouse tours to prove they had all these spare parts.

 

When the planes arrived in Afghanistan, mechanics quickly noted the planes were very poorly refurbished.

 

Worse, they couldn’t actually fly.

 

The poor state of the planes and the hazards of the Afghan elements made that impossible.

 

Alenia also lied about their maintenance commitments.

 

Those warehouses full of spare parts? They were for the wrong planes.

 

Despite this blatant fraud, DoD inspectors kept certifying the planes and the government kept making payments.

 

But here’s the catch.

 

The inspectors later admitted that many of the documents and manuals they reviewed were in Italian.

 

None of them spoke Italian.

 

The final count: Out of 20 aircrafts, 4 never even made it to Afghanistan.

 

It’s unclear why DoD continued making payments despite such flagrant violations.

 

But by 2013 it became clear that continuing this program was unfeasible, and the government tried to sell the remaining 16 planes.

 

Nobody wanted them.

 

So, the Obama/Biden administration sold them for scrap metal.

 

To recap: The government bought 20 airplanes for $549 million and in less than five years sold them for $40,257 worth of scrap metal.

 

The photos next to me show what we bought, compared to what it was actually worth – a literal pile of garbage.

 

False Claims Act Example 2

 

It’s clear that the actual condition of planes and lack of parts were very material components of this contract.

 

Now, thanks to DoD’s poor judgment, and the courts’ new standard, the Justice Department won’t bring False Claims Act charges against the company.

Materiality is important to protect against parasitic lawsuits. But we can’t allow defendants to get away with scalping the taxpayer because some government bureaucrats failed to do their jobs.

Government bureaucrats are highly segmented and often unable to make key decisions for their organizations.

The government also typically stops payment only when it has fully investigated and corroborated a claim of fraud.

 

And, my many years investigating the DoD has taught me that a Pentagon bureaucrat is rarely motivated to stop fraud.

That’s because the money doesn’t come out of their pocket.

This example highlights how the courts’ narrow interpretation of materiality fails to take into account how the government really works.

 

When the False Claims Act was originally passed, one fraudster boasted, β€œYou can sell anything to the government at almost any price if you’ve got the guts to ask.”

Unfortunately that was true in this case.

Now, however, the same link directs users to a defunct page displaying a message: β€œWe apologize for the inconvenience…”

 

The site appears to have been scrubbed on January 21st, 2021 – the first full day of the Biden regime.

Twitter censored exclusive photos from Project Veritas showing thousands of immigrants sleeping on the floor in tight quarters at a Texas detention center, hiding the content behind a filter marked β€œpotentially sensitive.” Twitter later reversed the censorship, calling it an error.

 

Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe posted a video featuring a compilation of the photos to Twitter on Monday morning. The video was promptly hidden behind a filter claiming the content was β€œpotentially sensitive,” requiring users with the sensitive content filter to click through the warning message in order to see it.

 

A Twitter spokeswoman told Breitbart News that the β€œpotentially sensitive content” warning was β€œincorrectly applied by one of our automated tools and it has since been removed.”

 

The photos from Project Veritas shed more light on the ongoing border crisis, which has seen over 30,000 migrants apprehended in just one border sector in March.

 

Joe Biden and the Democrats were highly critical of former President Trump’s imposition of strict immigration controls, and Biden taking office was widely perceived as the start of laxer restrictions.

 

The Biden administration has appointed a special envoy to contain the border surge, while its press secretary, Jen Psaki, has flip-flopped on admitting that the situation at the border is indeed a crisis.

Biden Admin Finally Releases Images of Unaccompanied Minor Detention Center in Texas

 

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials finally released photos and video from inside unaccompanied migrant minor holding facilities in Texas. The disclosures came one day after a Texas congressman and Project Veritas released leaked images from inside the Donna, Texas, facility.

 

β€œCBP continues to transfer unaccompanied minors to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as quickly and efficiently as possible after they are apprehended on the Southwest Border,” officials said in a written statement. β€œIn order to protect the health and safety of our workforce and those in our care we continue to discourage external visitors in our facilities; however, CBP is working to balance the need for public transparency and accountability.”

 

Monday morning, Axios published leaked photos provided by U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Breitbart Texas reported. A few hours later, Project Veritas began tweeting photos and video leaked from inside the facility.

 

Below are two videos and multiple photos released by CBP officials on Tuesday morning. These photos and videos are only from the recently constructed soft-sided facilities and do not show the conditions of migrant children being held in facilities at Border Patrol stations.

Italian Television Presenter Brutally Attacked While Filming Migrant Drug Dealers

 

Italian television presenter Vittorio Brumotti and his cameraman were attacked by a group of migrants while trying to film a drug dealing area in the city of Reggio Emilia.

 

Mr Brumotti, who appears on the satirical Italian television programme Striscia la Notizia, was attacked along with his colleague nearly immediately after arriving in the Reggiane neighbourhood, the former location of a major factory in the city that has largely turned into a drug-dealing area.

 

According to a report from the Italian newspaper Il Giornale, Brumotti was attacked by mostly African migrants who threw stones and bottles from the upper floors of the disused factories.

 

Brumotti and his cameraman immediately called the police. Within a few minutes, a dozen local police and Carabinieri arrived, but the migrants had dispersed to nearby camps and officers were unable to identify the attackers.

 

The assault comes just three weeks after Brumotti was attacked in the city of Brescia, again by a violent migrant. The presenter published a video of the attack on Instagram, which showed an African migrant trying to attack him and his crew in their van:

Migrants Pay $500 for Fake UN Documents to Travel Through Mexico

 

Cartel-connected human smugglers are selling fake United Nations documents to migrants who want to move freely through Mexico as they travel to the U.S. border.

 

Federal law enforcement officials in Mexico revealed exclusive details to Breitbart Texas about an investigation targeting document forgers. At a cost of $300 to $500 USD, β€œguides” or human smugglers offer a fake document packet from the United Nations Refugee Agency and a Mexican ID card. Document dealers promise safe passage and eventual entry in the U.S.

 

Authorities first learned of the case earlier this year when they intercepted a group of 20 Central American migrants with forged documents at a checkpoint in Galeana, Nuevo Leon.

 

When Mexican immigration authorities checked the documents, they were able to spot the fakes and asked for Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office to investigate the source. The migrants told authorities that β€œguides” sold the documents and claimed they were legitimate. The documents falsely present the migrants as refugees under β€œhumanitarian reasons” and should confer legal status to travel through Mexico.

 

Since that initial discovery, Mexican immigration officials found several groups of migrants with the same documents at checkpoints across the country, prompting the National Immigration Institute to issue an alert about forgeries.

BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) β€” The Boulder Police Department says the suspect in the King Soopers shooting has been identified as Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, of Arvada.

BPD said officers were dispatched to the King Soopers at 3600 Table Mesa Drive at 2:40 p.m. for a report of an active shooter.

 

According to an affidavit obtained by FOX31, Alissa had removed most of his clothing and left it in a pile with a green tactical vest, a rifle and a handgun before surrendering to police.

 

Alissa was then taken to the hospital for what was described as a β€œthrough and through” bullet wound to his upper right thigh. He is expected to be released and transported to the Boulder County Jail on Tuesday.

 

Police found a black Mercedes sedan in the grocery store parking lot registered to Alissa’s brother. They said there was a green rifle case near the front passenger’s seat.

 

A court document obtained by the FOX31 Problem Solvers shows Alissa had a run-in with the law in 2017 when he was accused of β€œcold cocking” a class mate at school.

 

The victim, according to the records, fell to the floor after the suspect was accused of punching him in the head. The victim suffered bruising, swelling, and cuts to the head as well as pain, according to the records.

The court records suggest that Alissa was concerned because he said the victim β€œhad made fun of him and called him racial names weeks earlier.”

 

Court records show Alissa pleaded guilty to an assault charge in the case in 2018.

Kansas Geological Survey: Recent earthquakes may not be from natural causes

 

Wichita, Kan. (KSNW) – You’ve likely felt one of the recent quakes in Wichita this month. There have been more than ten. Kansas geological survey says evidence shows they may be man-made.

 

β€œIf it is induced, what’s causing it?” said Rick Miller with Kansas geological Survey. β€œBut from a seismic perspective it did not have the characteristics of a natural one.”

 

Miller says small quakes have been happening in Wichita since the early 1900s. Most are just too small to be felt. He added that the recent swarm of quakes could come from water injection wells within a 15-mile radius of the recent quakes’ epicenters.

 

Kansas Independent Oil and Gas (KIOGA) operators chimed in on the matter. β€œCertainly this is one scientist and his perspective right now, we need to learn more,” said Ken White with White Exploration.

 

White also sits as a KIOGA representative with the Kansas Corporation Commission.

 

The Kansas Corporation Commission has throttled some wastewater injections along the Kansas/Oklahoma border in recent years after some larger earthquakes that occurred in Sumner and Harper counties. β€œToo quick to make any hard and fast conclusions on what’s happened here in Wichita,” said White.

 

White says there is not a large amount of wastewater injection in the area where recent quakes originated.

 

Miller says they are studying and gathering data. β€œAnd then when the events happened (Wichita quakes) in March, that kind of kicked it up because now you can look at it in terms of the probabilities,” he said. β€œThe probability of having this many, 17 felt events in this period of time compared to the three prior, was just significantly outside of our recursion relationship on seismicity as it is currently studied,” Miller added.

Ali Aliwi Al-Issa told The Daily Beast:β€œWhen he was having lunch with my sister in a restaurant, he said, β€˜People are in the parking lot, they are looking for me.’ She went out, and there was no one. U.S. officials said they were told AstraZeneca AZN 4.04%β–² PLC may have released outdated information in its disclosure of trial results for its Covid-19 vaccine that could have β€œprovided an incomplete view of the efficacy data.”

The statement from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases came a day after AstraZeneca released interim data from large-scale U.S. trials that it said found its Covid-19 vaccine to be 79% effective in preventing symptomatic disease.

The results served as a vote of confidence in the shot, which has been clouded by uncertainty over previous, confusing efficacy results and large-scale production problems. More recently, reported cases of unusual blood clotting in Europe raised concerns about the vaccine’s safety, though European regulators have recommended its continued use.

 

In a highly unusual statement early Tuesday morning, NIAID said an independent data monitoring board working with AstraZeneca in conducting its trials raised concerns about the company’s disclosures and had urged AstraZeneca to work with it to ensure that the most accurate, up-to-date efficacy data would be made public.

NIAID said the monitoring board, an independent body that works alongside a drug company to conduct trials, β€œexpressed concern that AstraZeneca may have included outdated information from that trial.” The agency said it was urging AstraZeneca β€œto review the efficacy data and ensure the most accurate, up-to-date efficacy data be made public as quickly as possible.”

He was arrested in 1985 after trying unsuccessfully to gain asylum at the Israeli Embassy in Washington and pleaded guilty. The espionage affair embarrassed Israel and tarnished its relations with the United States for years.

 

Pollard was given a life sentence. US defense and intelligence officials said his spying caused great damage and strenuously argued against his release. New legislation introduced by three Republican members of Congress would set a new bar for transparency in funding from think tanks receiving foreign funding. The legislation β€” β€œThink Tank and Nonprofit Influence Disclosure Act of 2021” β€” aims to β€œroot out foreign funding behind America’s policy research institutions” by requiring disclosure of foreign governments and foreign political parties that contribute in excess $50,000 per year to think tanks.

 

The requirement for think tanks to disclose their foreign sources of funding is particularly focused on revealing the extent of Chinese government-linked funding of think tanks, but the bills sponsors β€” Reps. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), and Jim Banks (R-Ind.) β€” emphasized that the extent of foreign influence in U.S. think tanks is a far reaching problem.

 

β€œExperts believe there are numerous foreign governments backing American think tanks and nonprofits, and that the Chinese Communist Party and Russian government are among those who seek to influence U.S. policymakers in this way,” said a press release from Gooden’s office.

 

The Republican bill closely closely reflects the policy recommendations in last year’s report by Ben Freeman, director of the Foreign Influence Transparency Initiative at the Center for International Policy, which found that $174 million in foreign funding went to top U.S. think tanks between 2014 and 2018, and advised that β€œthink tanks should be required, by law, to publicly disclose funding from foreign powers.”

 

A Responsible Statecraft and American Prospect investigation in January found that the House Foreign Affairs Committee, of which Wilson is a member, was regularly briefed by experts affiliated with think tanks that refuse to provide transparency into their funding sources.

 

Of the 237 think tank–affiliated witnesses who spoke before the House Foreign Affairs Committee over the past two congresses, under 30 percent of them appeared on behalf of institutions that fully disclose their major donors.

Unnamed Western Officials Spread Dubious Claims About Iran

 

Reports claim without evidence that Iran considered attacking a DC Army base and that Iran is hiding a nuclear program that could be used to make weapons

 

With a possible revival of the Iran nuclear deal on the table, there are many forces at work opposing a US return to the accord, known as the JCPOA. One form this opposition takes is through anonymous leaks to Western media outlets that are happy to publish whatever intelligence officials tell them to. This week, two dubiously-sourced reports came out that accused Iran of plotting an attack in Washington and operating a secret nuclear program. Missing from the stories was any evidence to back up the claims.

 

On Sunday, The Associated Press published a story that cited β€œtwo senior US intelligence officials” who claimed that Iran made threats against Fort McNair, a waterfront Army base in Washington DC. The officials said the NSA intercepted communications of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps discussing possible β€œUSS Cole-style attacks” on Fort McNair, referring to the 2000 attack on a US Navy destroyer off Yemen that was launched using a small explosive-laden boat. The AP story offers no other evidence to back up the claim besides the word of the unnamed officials.

 

Iran hawks benefit from such stories since it gives the US more reasons not to return to the JCPOA. But another reason to hype a threat to Fort McNair was explained in the AP story. The US Army wants to create a security buffer zone extending 250 to 500 feet into the water of the Washington Channel, the busy waterway that Fort McNair sits on. Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC’s representative to Congress, has been fighting this buffer zone and said the military has shown her no evidence that constitutes a threat big enough to justify it.

 

β€œI have asked the Department of Defense to withdraw the rule because I’ve seen no evidence of a credible threat that would support the proposed restriction,” Norton said. β€œI have a security clearance. And they have yet to show me any classified evidence.” The AP doesn’t explain these doubts until a few paragraphs into the story, so most readers with faith in the outlet that read the headline and skimmed a few paragraphs are left believing Iran is considering attacking Washington.

Jewish paper apologises after mocking '100,000 Palestinians shot by Israeli soldiers'

 

A newspaper serving the orthodox Jewish community of New York and New Jersey has apologised for joking about Israeli soldiers shooting Palestinians. A February edition of the Jewish Link appeared to mock the death of Palestinians by running the headline, "100,000 Palestinians shot by Israeli soldiers." It joked that Palestinians were volunteering to be shot by the Israeli "Sharpshooters" unit that is dispensing the COVID-19 vaccine.

 

The article said that Israel was dispensing the vaccine free to Palestinians so as "to improve relations with its Arab neighbors," and the "doses are being injected by an elite unit of Israeli soldiers, who are specially trained in the use of hypodermic needles."

 

Mocking the death of Palestinians the article said that the Health Ministry was "skeptical that Palestinians would volunteer to be shot by the Israeli military," but "to their surprise, in the program's first week, more than 100,000 Palestinians were vaccinated." Continuing to mock the death of Palestinians the piece went on to say that "after all the Arabs are shot once, we look forward to shooting them a second time…"

Though it was claimed the piece was a "Purim satire", which is a Jewish holiday celebrating the biblical story of Queen Esther overthrowing a Persian plot to kill Jews, it triggered a backlash.

 

The writer/musician Rich Siegel wrote a letter to the editor of the Jewish Link saying that "any decent person would find [the item] to be in extremely bad taste."

 

"In case you don't understand why your joke is beyond offensive, let me remind you that many many thousands of Palestinians and other Arabs have been shot and killed, or shot and maimed, in the bloody history of your racist apartheid country…"

 

"What would your response be if anyone were to make jokes about Auschwitz?"

 

The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and American Muslims for Palestine of New Jersey also criticised the paper for making light of violence against Palestinians.

 

"Suggesting the systematic murder of 100,000 people of an oppressed minority will never make for good comedy," Selaedin Maksut, the executive director of CAIR-NJ, said in a statement, reported the Times of Israel.

 

Acknowledging their mistake the paper published an apology. "We apologize," read a brief statement in last Thursday's edition of the Link, which included a letter of complaint from the president of the Muslim Society of Bergen County. "It was offensive, in poor taste, and we regret it." The article was removed from the online version of the paper.

Guard Troops Ambushed in Texas, Held at Gunpoint While Transporting COVID-19 Vaccines

 

An armed Arizona man allegedly ambushed 11 National Guard troops transporting COVID-19 vaccines in Texas and held them at gunpoint Monday after an extensive chase on a highway, authorities said.

 

That morning, police say a gunman followed three vans of troops transporting vaccines from a Love's Travel Station for 10 miles. The suspect, 66-year-old Larry Harris, allegedly made multiple attempts to run the Guard members off the road, according to a statement from Idalou Police Chief Eric Williams.

 

Williams said Harris turned his vehicle into oncoming traffic and stopped the National Guard vans. The troops were unarmed, Williams told Military.com in a phone call. He added that Homeland Security investigators are expected to bring federal charges. It is typical for Guardsmen to be unarmed on domestic missions such as coronavirus relief.

 

Harris allegedly pointed a Colt 1911 .45 caliber pistol at the troops, falsely identified himself as a detective and accused the soldiers of kidnapping a woman and child.

 

No service members or police were injured. Idalou officers took Harris into custody without incident. Police said in a statement that Harris had additional magazines on his person and in his vehicle.

 

"Mr. Harris appeared to be mentally disturbed. This was a very dangerous situation since the suspect was standing in the midst of the unarmed Guardsman with a loaded weapon, then the Idalou officers arrived on scene," Williams said. "We are grateful that the officers were able to take him into custody without any of the Guardsmen, the officers or the suspect getting hurt."

 

Harris was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful restraint of the 11 soldiers, unlawful carrying of a weapon, impersonating a public servant and interference with Texas military forces. He remains in custody at Lubbock County Detention Center. It is unclear if he is receiving any mental health evaluations or treatment; officials with the jail have not yet responded to a request for comment. According to jail records, Harris has not yet hired a lawyer.

 

There are 31,000 troops deployed across the country for coronavirus relief, according to the National Guard Bureau. These missions include food distribution and facilitating coronavirus testing. Troops also serve as a critical tool to administer vaccines in support of President Joe Biden’s goal to return the country to relative normalcy by Independence Day.

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)– The arrest affidavit for Ahmad Al-Issa, the suspect in the King Soopers deadly shooting in Boulder, provides shocking details from witnesses. Several witnesses say they saw Alissa wearing body armor or tactical gear while he was shooting people.

 

In the document the suspect is named as Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa. The affidavit provides details that witnesses called 911 to report that a man was shooting in the parking lot and had β€œwalked up to the elderly man, stood over him and shot him multiple additional times” before entering the store where he continued shooting.

 

According to the affidavit, during the search for the suspect, Boulder police officers found Officer Eric Talley down with what appeared to be a bullet wound to the head and he appeared to be deceased.

 

When Al-Issa was taken into custody by the SWAT team, he had removed all his clothing and was dressed only in shorts. He also had blood on his right thigh and asked to speak to his mother.

 

Police say Al-Issa had removed all his gear inside the store, which included a green tactical vest, a rifle, possibly an AR-15, a semiautomatic handgun, a pair of jeans and a dark-colored long-sleeved shirt with a lot of blood around the items.

 

A total of 10 people had been killed inside the store and in the parking lot, including one person in a vehicle in the parking lot. They are: Denny Stong, 20, Neven Stanisic, 23, Rikki Olds, 25, Tralona Bartkowiak, 49, Suzanne Fountain, 59, Teri Leiker, 51, Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley, 51, Kevin Mahoney, 61, Lynn Murray, 62, and Jody Waters, 65.

 

Al-Issa remains in police custody and is facing 10 counts of murder. There is no information about a possible motive at this time.

When the children raised after the impending collapse begin to reach adulthood, will people look at them and blame the child for their behavior… Or will they critique the people who raised them and the collapse of society around them?

 

The way I was raised was that it is the purpose of the parents to sacrifice for their children and to make sure they had the knowledge, manners, discipline, etc to function in the world. By the time I was 22, both of my parents were dead.

There is a saying… Society is made great by men who plant trees they will never sit in the shade of.

History will generally regard baby boomers as a generation which not only did not plant trees but for their self, but also jealously guarded their children from the shade of such trees and then demanded the shade from their children's trees.

 

While there are certainly exceptions to this, my parents among them, I would like to point out that the generation predominantly in control of our government and for the last 40 years…. Implementing communism and destroying the constitution…

Yet for some reason… It's always fun to dunk on the millennials as though we are the cause of Nancy Pelosi, Schumer, Clinton, etc. No doubt we have our problems. My generation is in for some rude introductions to reality.

 

However, it was the responsibility of the generations prior to make sure the younger generations had the relevant knowledge and experiences to understand reality - and this was not done on the civic scale. I did not create Barney the Dinosaur. Nor did I create the "citizens of humanity" utopian idealism babble. We had to be told not to make fun of homosexuals in our teenage years.

At what point will the member generations of society recognize the role they neglected?
