It was 55 years ago today that the photoshoot for The Beatles’ infamous butcher cover took place. The controversial images of the Fab Four dressed in white coats alongside raw meat and decapitated baby dolls were meant for the front of their US album Yesterday and Today. Shot by Robert Whitaker, whose idea it was, The Beatles insisted the bizarre imagery was a statement against the Vietnam War.

Royal Navy Hawk jet had engine fail both crew ejected & safe.

Plane was taking part in weekly navy exercise in the English channel.

Shortly before the incident, the plane issued a 7700 squawk, indicating a general emergency.

Aviation observers raised the alarm on Twitter after noticing the distress call.

One said: "There has been an incident involving FRADU Hawk XX189.

"SAR and air ambulances on scene, Bournemouth based Falcons, Dutch & French navy are also assisting in the operation."
