Well, how did they load it in the first place without unbalancing it? Reverse the process. Simple. Prob don't need to take a whole lot off, maybe up to a third of the weight? Hard to tell. Maybe less.
Not a bad idea but would silt up the canal I would think.
It's at an angle though, not totally perpendicular. I guess you could put a bunch of tugs at the stern, assuming it is relatively free compared to the bow, and give it a good pull.
