As for buying from a farmer, that's a good option. I was fortunate to find a book about local edible plants some time ago. The book describes what to do with them and gives cautions as well.
Permaculture growing makes more sense to me than a convention garden anymore. Walk into back yard- find food to eat!
Ever heard of a kitchen garden? If you have a bunch of herbs outside your kitchen they are available all the time.
Btw, you might want to do some homework on dandelions. Multiple parts of the plant are edible and I think the root is good for the liver. There is even one type of dandelion that might be a good source of latex (not to eat, of course). I think dandelion was called a weed so we'd forget its edible. Elderly relative says her mother would cook them in fat. Don't let the lawn guy kill your dandelions!
