I 2nd this – But actually they never gave up their happy and fun lives of frivolous fucking and let their kids grow up basically on the streets for a large part, then said shit like, "I didn't raise them that way." They never grew up.
It is partially an illusion because Gen X had to raise Millennials, who were not their children, because the Boomers never grew up and did it. This required a degree of guess-work on Gen X's part, because they barely had any parents either.
