I was a Buck Sergeant in the Army starting back in 69. Very few young enlistees and mostly older draftees. After the draft went away the average bored soldier was less of a drunk and more of a doper. I have no idea how the military is today. But at least in 69 we knew who the enemy was and the mission was simple. Search & Destroy and Kill the Enemy. The enemy then was the Communists.

I got out in 77 and my last assignment was Germany and Hashish & Opium was absolutely everywhere. Everybody smoked, I smoked, smoked in the barracks, smoked on the way to the Tac Site in the 2 1/2. Smoking Hashish & Opium was just the way it was.
