Evander Kane’s pregnant wife says NHL star tanked games for gambling profit

NHL star Evander Kane’s pregnant wife ripped her husband in a scathing Instagram post — claiming the San Jose Sharks forward is a gambling addict who tanked games for profit and abandoned her with their toddler to party in Europe while their house is being “taken by the bank.”

The Saturday Instagram stories have apparently already prompted an investigation by the National Hockey League, which said in a tweet it was aware of the posts and intended to “conduct a full investigation.”

Anna Kane let loose on her husband in the blistering posts, painting him as an addict who had left her with no money to even buy formula for their daughter.

“How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he’s obviously throwing games to win money?” she wrote. “Hmm maybe someone needs to address this.”

In another, the wife of the forward wrote, “Can someone ask (Commissioner) Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?”

Kane’s manager denied the allegations, telling The Post, “They are serious but they’re not true.”

“We’ve been advised not to say anything right now,” manager Karl Mullins told The Post, adding the couple was “just having problems” and that the player would speak out “after the investigation is complete.”

Evander Kane filed for bankruptcy in California in January, just two years after signing a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Sharks. In November 2019, he was sued by a Las Vegas casino over $500,000 in gambling debts.

“So you leave July 8th. You do not call or text at all for 7 days. Then you inform me you are going to Europe for a vacation must be nice, but at the same time tell me our house is being taken by the bank,” she wrote.

“But do not come home to help ur [sic] pregnant wife pack or help her with anything at all,” she added, claiming Kane “never” calls their 1-year-old daughter “who walked around the house with her bunny saying ‘dada’ for a week looking for you.”

“I don’t know if there are even words to describe the kind of evil person that you are to abandon your wife who is pregnant with your son and your one year old daughter,” she wrote.

The wife also posted a screenshot of an apparent response from the hockey player, telling her he would see their child on Aug. 8 and 9 — and asking her to leave the key to their home under the mat when she vacates.

“What a guy,” she sniped in an accompanying caption. “This is when the addiction is more important then anyone and everything. My heart goes out to anyone who has to deal with loved ones addicted to anything in any form who put that before their own family.”

Ex-NY Bishop Howard J. Hubbard admits diocese ‘temporarily’ moved priests accused of sexual abuse

A former Catholic bishop admitted that the Archdiocese of Albany covertly moved around priests accused of sexual misconduct before reintroducing them back into the ministry.

Howard J. Hubbard, who headed the diocese from 1977 to 2014, said it was common practice in the 1970s and 1980s to temporarily remove accused priests, send them for supposed rehabilitation — then put them back on the job.

Hubbard said that he regrets the “flawed” system.

“When an allegation of sexual misconduct against a priest was received in the 1970s and 1980s, the common practice in the Albany diocese and elsewhere was to remove the priest from ministry temporarily and send him for counseling and treatment,” Hubbard said in a statement through his attorney to The Times Union.

“Only when a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist determined the priest was capable of returning to ministry without reoffending did we consider placing the priest back in ministry. The professional advice we received was well-intended but flawed, and I deeply regret that we followed it.”

Roughly 300 Child Victims Act Lawsuits have been filed against the diocese, The Times Union reported.

The Time Union said that Hubbard’s attorney has since disputed that the former bishop’s statements amount to a coverup.

Bishop Hubbard has been publicly accused of sexual misconduct seven times since 2019. Just this past March, Hubbard was accused of molesting an 11-year-old boy at a carnival more than 40 years ago.

Hubbard denied that allegation in a statement to The Post in March, saying, “I know with absolute certainty that I did not abuse him because I know with absolute certainty that I have never abused a child or an adult, sexually or in any other way.”

Diocese Spokeswoman Mary DeTurris Poust said that the diocese remains “committed to uncovering the truth” in a statement to The Times Union.

“Our first concern is for survivors,” the spokeswoman said. “We stand ready to accompany them, support them, and assist them, and we commend them for their bravery in coming forward.”

Lieutenant General John Frewen says every Aussie may have access to two vaccine doses by end of 2021

Lieutenant General John Frewen has unveiled his plan to boost Australia's vaccine rollout to allow every citizen access to two doses instead of the previously planned one in an exclusive interview with Sky News Australia.

The man in charge of Australia's vaccination rollout, Lieutenant General John Frewen, says that all Australians may have access to two doses of vaccine by the end of the year, rather than the previous target of one, as he plans to ramp up doses being administered to two million per week, up from the current level of 1.1 million per week as more Pfizer and Moderna becomes available.

General Frewen, in an interview with Sunday Agenda, also insisted he could not give extra Pfizer supply to New South Wales, despite pleas from Premier Gladys Berejiklian amid a high number of COVID-19 cases in Sydney, arguing the vaccine rollout was a national program and hotspots could crop up anywhere.

He urged NSW to take up hundreds of thousands of AstraZeneca vaccines available to the general population.

"We're saying every Australian who wants access to a first dose will have that opportunity this year (but) I think with the supply that's coming on, we've got a really fantastic chance to get the vast majority of Australians fully vaccinated this year if they choose to do so," General Frewen said.

"We need to take every opportunity we can and right now everyone who is eligible for Pfizer should get out and get Pfizer but for everyone else they should go and make an informed choice .. and if AZ is available, they should get to the AZ.

"My planning parameters at the moment are anything up to two million doses a week."

On NSW, he said: "Look this is a national vaccine rollout program and it's very important we do vaccinate the whole nation at the same time so at the moment there's plenty of AstraZeneca. . . it's really important we up the fully vaccinated rates as equitably as we can across the nation because these hotspots can happen anywhere."

The three-star general, who previously headed up an international force in the Solomon Islands and was deputy director-general of the Australian Signals Directorate, said the vaccine rollout was the biggest job he had had.

He said there were one and a half million doses of AstraZeneca that could be ordered and taken up presently and NSW needed to take advantage of those supplies for people of all ages.

General Frewen said supermarket workers and other essential workers were now a priority in terms of vaccination.

"We've been working very closely with NSW. This week we've already started doing vaccinations of some of the key food hub distribution areas in NSW and in conjunction with NSW, we've agreed that we will do the food hubs and they will do the supermarket workers and the like."
