(1) A person commits an offence if the person requires another person to:

 

(a) download COVIDSafe to a communication device; or

 

(b) have COVIDSafe in operation on a communication device; or

 

(c) consent to uploading COVID app data from a communication device to the National COVIDSafe Data Store.

 

Penalty: Imprisonment for 5 years or 300 penalty units, or both.

 

(2) A person commits an offence if the person:

 

(a) refuses to enter into, or continue, a contract or arrangement with another person (including a contract of employment); or

 

(b) takes adverse action (within the meaning of the Fair Work Act 2009 ) against another person; or

 

(c) refuses to allow another person to enter:

 

(i) premises that are otherwise accessible to the public; or

 

(ii) premises that the other person has a right to enter; or

 

(d) refuses to allow another person to participate in an activity; or

 

(e) refuses to receive goods or services from another person, or insists on providing less monetary consideration for the goods or services; or

 

(f) refuses to provide goods or services to another person, or insists on receiving more monetary consideration for the goods or services;

 

on the ground that, or on grounds that include the ground that, the other person:

 

(g) has not downloaded COVIDSafe to a communication device; or

 

(h) does not have COVIDSafe in operation on a communication device; or

 

(i) has not consented to uploading COVID app data from a communication device to the National COVIDSafe Data Store.

 

Penalty: Imprisonment for 5 years or 300 penalty units, or both.

 

(3) To avoid doubt:

 

(a) subsection (2) is a workplace law for the purposes of the Fair Work Act 2009 ; and

 

(b) the benefit that the other person derives because of an obligation of the person under subsection (2) is a workplace right within the meaning of Part 3-1 of that Act.

Former New South Wales Nationals MP Michael Johnsen will not be charged after allegations he raped a sex worker.

Ms Doyle used parliamentary privilege earlier this year to claim that a "government MP" had been accused of raping a sex worker at a secluded lookout in Ms Doyle's electorate.

 

Within hours, Mr Johnsen had issued a statement revealing he was the MP at the centre of the allegations.

 

Other details also emerged, including that he offered to pay the sex worker to have sex in the NSW Parliament and sent the woman a string of lewd text messages and an obscene video while Parliament was sitting.

 

Mr Johnsen resigned from Parliament over the rape allegations and was removed from the Nationals and Coalition party rooms, and suspended from the National Party.

 

At the time, Mr Johnsen said his decision to resign was with a "heavy heart" and that he was confident he would be cleared of the alleged rape.

In Arizona, they need to have a vote just to enforce subpoenas that are already legal and enforceable.

 

In Pennsylvania, failure to comply with a subpoena means you're going to jail and they don't need a vote.

Gov. Cuomo Begs Businesses To Return To NYC After Harsh Shutdowns

 

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is pleading for citizens and businesses to return to the Big Apple after implementing harsh COVID restrictions for more than a year. During a recent virtual conference with the Association for a Better New York, Cuomo urged companies to bring employees back to working in person.

 

This comes as the Democrat governor said he fears the city’s economy will not recover on its own.

This post addresses what I have seen before the last three. I enjoy the conversation and I will respond.

 

The β€œpattern” of exchange in the war will not be a surprise. Many people will perish as a result of starvation and disease. I would also submit that you already know if you’re safe or not. The trick is to not turn off your fear when you’ll need it the most.

 

Australia is sort of interesting in what is unknown. After the war, they were not very cooperative or friendly (can’t blame them really). It is known they did repulse a Chinese invasion and most of their cities were hit. They have a trading relationship with the U.S. but I would characterize them as reclusive and ticked off.

Evander Kane’s pregnant wife says NHL star tanked games for gambling profit

 

NHL star Evander Kane’s pregnant wife ripped her husband in a scathing Instagram post β€” claiming the San Jose Sharks forward is a gambling addict who tanked games for profit and abandoned her with their toddler to party in Europe while their house is being β€œtaken by the bank.”

 

The Saturday Instagram stories have apparently already prompted an investigation by the National Hockey League, which said in a tweet it was aware of the posts and intended to β€œconduct a full investigation.”

 

Anna Kane let loose on her husband in the blistering posts, painting him as an addict who had left her with no money to even buy formula for their daughter.

 

β€œHow does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he’s obviously throwing games to win money?” she wrote. β€œHmm maybe someone needs to address this.”

 

In another, the wife of the forward wrote, β€œCan someone ask (Commissioner) Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?”

 

Kane’s manager denied the allegations, telling The Post, β€œThey are serious but they’re not true.”

 

β€œWe’ve been advised not to say anything right now,” manager Karl Mullins told The Post, adding the couple was β€œjust having problems” and that the player would speak out β€œafter the investigation is complete.”

 

Evander Kane filed for bankruptcy in California in January, just two years after signing a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Sharks. In November 2019, he was sued by a Las Vegas casino over $500,000 in gambling debts.

 

Anna Kane describes a devastating scene in her Instagram stories Saturday.

Apple Yanks Anti-Vax Version of Tinder From the App Store,Besides being a dating and friendship app for anti-vaxxers, Unjected also falsely claims that being near vaccinated people can have adverse effects.

Apple has yanked Unjected, an app that bills itself as β€œa safe space for the unvaccinated to come together uncensored through business, friendship, or love,” from the App Store. The company said that Unjected violated its covid-19 policies and tried to get around the App Store review process, which in itself is against Apple guidelines.

Apple took action against Unjected after being contacted by Bloomberg. The outlet published a report on Unjected on Saturday that analyzed how Apple and Google were dealing with the covid-19 vaccine misinformation presented on the app. In an email, Apple confirmed the takedown to Gizmodo on Saturday.

 

Google warned Unjected’s founders about the misinformation on the app’s recently debuted social feedβ€”which included user-generated false claims that stated vaccines were β€œexperimental mRNA gene modifiers” and β€œnano-technology microchips”—in mid-July and threatened to remove it if the content wasn’t deleted. The founders complied and removed the social feed, although one told Bloomberg that they planned to reinstate it and the false claims, hoping to β€œstay under the radar.” The app is still available on the Play Store.

 

In response to actions by Apple and Google, Unjected sent Gizmodo the following response via email.

 

β€œThe only statement we have is that we are a respectful group of people supporting their medical autonomy and freedom of choice, and that we believe their unjust censorship policy’s on google and apple [sic] violates our constitutional rights,” Unjected said.

Ex-NY Bishop Howard J. Hubbard admits diocese β€˜temporarily’ moved priests accused of sexual abuse

 

A former Catholic bishop admitted that the Archdiocese of Albany covertly moved around priests accused of sexual misconduct before reintroducing them back into the ministry.

 

Howard J. Hubbard, who headed the diocese from 1977 to 2014, said it was common practice in the 1970s and 1980s to temporarily remove accused priests, send them for supposed rehabilitation β€” then put them back on the job.

 

Hubbard said that he regrets the β€œflawed” system.

 

β€œWhen an allegation of sexual misconduct against a priest was received in the 1970s and 1980s, the common practice in the Albany diocese and elsewhere was to remove the priest from ministry temporarily and send him for counseling and treatment,” Hubbard said in a statement through his attorney to The Times Union.

 

β€œOnly when a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist determined the priest was capable of returning to ministry without reoffending did we consider placing the priest back in ministry. The professional advice we received was well-intended but flawed, and I deeply regret that we followed it.”

 

Roughly 300 Child Victims Act Lawsuits have been filed against the diocese, The Times Union reported.

 

The Time Union said that Hubbard’s attorney has since disputed that the former bishop’s statements amount to a coverup.

 

Bishop Hubbard has been publicly accused of sexual misconduct seven times since 2019. Just this past March, Hubbard was accused of molesting an 11-year-old boy at a carnival more than 40 years ago.

 

Hubbard denied that allegation in a statement to The Post in March, saying, β€œI know with absolute certainty that I did not abuse him because I know with absolute certainty that I have never abused a child or an adult, sexually or in any other way.”

 

Diocese Spokeswoman Mary DeTurris Poust said that the diocese remains β€œcommitted to uncovering the truth” in a statement to The Times Union.

 

β€œOur first concern is for survivors,” the spokeswoman said. β€œWe stand ready to accompany them, support them, and assist them, and we commend them for their bravery in coming forward.”

2 major San Francisco hospitals reported that 233 staff members tested positive for COVID-19Hundreds of staffers at two major hospitals in San Francisco have tested positive for coronavirus in July, with most of them being breakthrough cases of the highly infectious Delta variant, The New York Times reported Saturday evening.

 

The University of California, San Francisco Medical Center told media outlets that 183 of its 35,000 staffers tested positive. Of those infected, 84% were fully vaccinated, and just two vaccinated staff members required hospitalization for their symptoms.

 

At Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, at least 50 members out of the total 7,500 hospital staff were infected, with 75-80% of them vaccinated. None of those staffers required hospitalization.

UCSF's chief medical officer, Dr. Lukejohn Day, told The Times the numbers from his hospital showed just how important and effective vaccinations are.

 

"What we're seeing is very much what the data from the vaccines showed us: You can still get COVID, potentially. But if you do get it, it's not severe at all," Day said.

 

Day also told ABC7 News that at least 99% of the cases at UCSF were traced back to community spread, but that hospital officials are still investigating and conducting contact tracing.

 

He added that most of the cases presented mild to moderate symptoms, and some were completely asymptomatic. He said the cases were spread among doctors, nurses, and ancillary staff.

"We sort of are seeing that across the board," he said."We have so far not detected any patient-to-staff or staff-to-patient transmission right now."The highly infectious Delta variant has been deemed more transmissible than the viruses that cause the

Lieutenant General John Frewen has unveiled his plan to boost Australia's vaccine rollout to allow every citizen access to two doses instead of the previously planned one in an exclusive interview with Sky News Australia.

 

The man in charge of Australia's vaccination rollout, Lieutenant General John Frewen, says that all Australians may have access to two doses of vaccine by the end of the year, rather than the previous target of one, as he plans to ramp up doses being administered to two million per week, up from the current level of 1.1 million per week as more Pfizer and Moderna becomes available.

 

General Frewen, in an interview with Sunday Agenda, also insisted he could not give extra Pfizer supply to New South Wales, despite pleas from Premier Gladys Berejiklian amid a high number of COVID-19 cases in Sydney, arguing the vaccine rollout was a national program and hotspots could crop up anywhere.

 

He urged NSW to take up hundreds of thousands of AstraZeneca vaccines available to the general population.

 

"We're saying every Australian who wants access to a first dose will have that opportunity this year (but) I think with the supply that's coming on, we've got a really fantastic chance to get the vast majority of Australians fully vaccinated this year if they choose to do so," General Frewen said.

 

"We need to take every opportunity we can and right now everyone who is eligible for Pfizer should get out and get Pfizer but for everyone else they should go and make an informed choice .. and if AZ is available, they should get to the AZ.

 

"My planning parameters at the moment are anything up to two million doses a week."

 

On NSW, he said: "Look this is a national vaccine rollout program and it's very important we do vaccinate the whole nation at the same time so at the moment there's plenty of AstraZeneca. . . it's really important we up the fully vaccinated rates as equitably as we can across the nation because these hotspots can happen anywhere."

 

The three-star general, who previously headed up an international force in the Solomon Islands and was deputy director-general of the Australian Signals Directorate, said the vaccine rollout was the biggest job he had had.

 

He said there were one and a half million doses of AstraZeneca that could be ordered and taken up presently and NSW needed to take advantage of those supplies for people of all ages.

 

General Frewen said supermarket workers and other essential workers were now a priority in terms of vaccination.

 

"We've been working very closely with NSW. This week we've already started doing vaccinations of some of the key food hub distribution areas in NSW and in conjunction with NSW, we've agreed that we will do the food hubs and they will do the supermarket workers and the like."

Missed debt ceiling deadline kicks off high-stakes fight

The legal limit on how much debt the U.S. government can owe was reimposed Sunday, kicking off a high-stakes battle over federal spending with dire implications for global financial markets.

 

A two-year deal to suspend the debt ceiling lapsed at midnight following inaction from Congress and President Biden to give the U.S. more borrowing authority. The Treasury Department will now begin taking what it refers to as β€œextraordinary measures” to prevent the U.S. from defaulting on its debt.

Those steps are likely to avert a default until October or even November before Biden will need to sign a bill to raise or suspend the limit again.

The expiration of the debt limit has triggered numerous partisan standoffs over the past decade, most recently in 2019. Each time, Congress has raised or suspended the debt limit. But the weeks before a potential default have often been the most tense, both for financial markets and administration officials.

β€œI respectfully urge Congress to protect the full faith and credit of the United States by acting as soon as possible,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen wrote in a letter to congressional leaders last week, warning that they risked β€œirreparable harm to the U.S. economy and the livelihoods of all Americans” by delaying action.

 

There is no clear path to a bipartisan agreement as Republicans hold out for spending cuts that Democrats refuse to consider.

 

While Democrats have slim majorities in both the House and Senate, they will still need the support of 10 GOP senators to avoid a filibuster on legislation to raise or suspend the debt ceiling.

 

Republican leaders have told Democrats that there can be no bipartisan debt ceiling agreement without a slate of debt reduction measures targeting the roughly $28 trillion national debt. Several GOP lawmakers have floated a deal similar to the 2011 Budget Control Act, which ended a debt ceiling standoff shortly before the U.S. suffered its first ever credit downgrade.

 

Democrats, however, argue that tying a debt ceiling increase to any controversial legislation is akin to holding the financial system hostage.

 

Without help from Republicans, Democrats would have to approve a debt ceiling hike through a budget reconciliation measure, which only needs a simple majority to pass in each chamber but would require support from all 50 Senate Democrats.
