The National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering today launched the Engineering Research Visioning Alliance (ERVA), a national collaborative designed to help determine future engineering research priorities to meet the country’s emerging needs. The University of Maryland (UMD) is a founding ERVA partner through the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Darryll J. Pines, UMD president and immediate past dean of UMD’s A. James Clark School of Engineering, serves on the distinguished, 10-member ERVA advisory board.

Ernst & Young becomes founding partner of U Maryland’s Quantum Startup Foundry

Global professional services firm Ernst & Young (EY) has become a founding partner of the University of Maryland’s Quantum Startup Foundry (QSF), which supports fledgling businesses developing quantum technologies.
The new quantum-focused incubator was recently established at UMD to accelerate leading-edge technologies that promise to remake whole industries by applying quantum technologies. EY, the first company to establish a partnership with the QSF, will support programs that connect the virtual and physical resources needed to support quantum entrepreneurs and start-ups. The firm will also provide insight, mentorship, customer and investor introductions, and other services to companies cultivated through the Foundry
