Кафедра - 1982 Soviet movie
Professor Zavalishin, a prominent scientist, doctor of technical sciences, author of a huge number of scientific papers and an excellent teacher, for many years was the head of the Department of Cybernetics at the Institute. After Zavalishin's death, Professor Fliagin was appointed in his place, who does not grab stars from the sky as a scientist, but an ardent champion of order and discipline. The new head sincerely wants to improve the work of the department. However, he is devoid of the gift of guiding people, of loving them. Acting in ways that are more suitable for the army barracks, Fliagin receives an insulting nickname " Arakcheev " from his subordinates, and with one of them, assistant professor Spivak, enters into an open conflict. Realizing his inability to be the leader of the scientific team, Fliagin refuses to hold office, despite the fact that most of the staff of the department are not against his leadership.
At the same time, the associate professor Nina Ignatyevna Astashova irreconcilably struggles with pseudo-scientists who are unworthy to become one level with Zavalishin, Spivak and other well-deserved workers of the Institute, but openly and openly climb to a warm place. In particular, during the defense of the doctoral dissertation of the associate professor of the adjacent department of Yakovkin, she openly blames the thesis for plagiarism (using the results obtained by his subordinates, without reference to the authors), and also in using the model for mutually exclusive assumptions.
Analyzing Zavalishin's papers left after his death, Astashova discovers that in recent years the professor, who had hard survived the death of his beloved wife, departed from scientific work and did not create anything substantial. To support his good name in scientific circles, Astashova includes his own work under his name in the posthumous collection of the works of the professor.
