Republican House leaders call for an investigation into sexual harassment and assault claims under Jennifer Carnahan's leadership

They say any leaders who failed in their legal or moral responsibilities should resign or be fired.

Multiple Republican leaders within the state House are calling on the party’s executive committee to investigate allegations surrounding Minnesota GOP Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan.

The letter, dated on Wednesday, is signed off on by 11 state representatives, including House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, Deputy Minority Leader Anne Neu Brindley and Minority Whip Barb Haley.

In it, they call on the Republican Party of Minnesota’s State Executive Committee to launch an “immediate, comprehensive investigation” into claims of sexual assault and harassment that allegedly occurred under Carnahan’s leadership.

What's more, they say that if any party leader did not meet their "legal or moral responsibilities to the victims coming forward, they should resign or be held accountable by the State Executive Committee."

The committee is meeting on Thursday evening as pressure mounts against Carnahan, though the House letter suggests any action against her should wait until the outcome of the investigation.

“We are writing to implore you to take action immediately to investigate these claims, and establish a clear process for victims to come forward,” the letter reads. “Not only do state and federal employment laws demand this level of responsiveness, but it is critical to ensuring a professional work environment for the future of the MNGOP as an organization.”

The letter also calls for the response to the allegations to include “developing or strengthening current harassment training.”

Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka also shared a short statement about Thursday's meeting, tweeting: "The Anton Lazzaro indictment and subsequent personnel issues raised by past #mngop Executive Directors require immediate attention and decisive action by the #mngop Executive Committee.

"I have spoken to Chairwoman Carnahan, and individuals who support her removal, and have been assured a resolution to this conflict will be reached at tonight’s 6:30 p.m. meeting."

The Afghan gov't overthrown by Taliban never existed - ex-soldier

Former US soldier discusses how myths, bad data, desire for promotions, corruption and waste underpinned the Afghan war.

“They believed it because they had to; they couldn’t bring themselves to admit that this might not be real, it was just a sham,” said Graham Platner, who served in Iraq and then Afghanistan as a US soldier, and later as a security contractor. “Military officers are not trained to admit that maybe we can’t do this.”

In an interview with The Jerusalem Post, Platner reveals the deeply troubling levels of corruption, waste and myths that underpinned the US role in Afghanistan, and explains why the country fell to the Taliban in just a few days.

The Taliban captured their first provincial capital of Zaranj on August 7, and by August 15 they were in Kabul after President Ashraf Ghani had fled the country. US forces had left Bagram Air Base in early July, roughly a month before the Taliban offensive gained momentum and swept over the country.

Platner came to Afghanistan with high hopes in 2010. He’d been in Iraq, and would ultimately serve for eight years with the US Infantry. He came to Afghanistan with the surge of US troops that was supposed to turn around a war that had already dragged on for a decade.

“My unit was deployed in November 2010 as part of the Obama surge to move troops into the country to conduct counter-insurgency the right way,” he said. “I believed it before I left.”

Platner had seen mistakes in Iraq, and believed that Gen. David Petraeus, commander of the International Security Assistance Forces, and Gen. Stanley McChrystal, his predecessor, were saying the right things about Afghanistan.

McChrystal said “that we would now drive on the road like we are part of the Afghans, and walk more and get out of our trucks,” remembers Platner. “And as an infantry sergeant who believed counter-insurgency could work, I wanted to do this, and I was excited to go and fight in an army that was going to take seriously this strategy that I had fully bought into.”

Then he saw how things really were. While the generals said the right things and lower-level US officers believed it and tried to get it done, “everyone in between doesn’t want to do any of this.” He sketches a pattern of officers being asked to quantify their successes through the number of missions and number of engagements carried out meeting Afghans. As officers wanted promotions, they were incentivized to put in big numbers, but not necessarily accomplish anything real on the ground.

“How do you quantify making Afghans happy?” Platner asks. “It is immeasurable and you need metrics, like killing this many enemy, and spending this much money, and this many combat patrols. It doesn’t matter what you did.”

WHILE THE US Army sought to get good “stats” on what was happening to pass up the chain of command, the Afghan army and police were largely an army only on paper. In northeast Afghanistan, where Platner was a rifle squad leader, he spent most of his time living with Afghan National Police, who were supposed to be performing paramilitary operations as well. The Afghan army in his area was being advised by the French Foreign Legion. He says this was in the Ghorband District not far from Kabul.

While the US brigade moved around a bit, his role in training Afghan police provided an insight into the failures across Afghanistan at the time.

The progressive mayor temporarily instituted a policy that meant no white journalist would be granted an interview

A federal court in Illinois has granted a hearing pertaining to Judicial Watch's request for discovery about the "scope and duration" of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot's so-called "discriminatory interview policy," the group said Friday.

The legal watchdog had previously filed a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Thomas Catenacci, a reporter with the Daily Caller News Foundation, accusing Lightfoot of violating First Amendment rights and the 14th Amendment rights of Catenacci. The reporter is a white male who had emailed the mayor's office requesting a one-on-one interview with her.

Earlier this year, Lightfoot, on the second anniversary of her inauguration, declared that she would be granting interviews exclusively to journalists of color in an effort to draw attention to the fact that the City Hall press corps is "overwhelming white" and male, in a city made up of just one-third white people.

Lightfoot's proposed plan was not a blanket policy, rather a one day rule. But the lawsuit argues she knowingly discriminated against Catenacci "because of his race by stating that she would only grant interview requests from 'journalists of color …' "

American Bar Association Poised To Mandate Diversity Training, Affirmative Action at Law Schools

Legal scholars say mandates could force law schools to violate federal law

The American Bar Association is poised to mandate diversity training and affirmative action at all of its accredited law schools, a move top legal scholars say could jeopardize academic freedom and force schools to violate federal law.

The association, which accredits nearly every law school in the United States, is mulling a plan that would require schools to "provide education to law students on bias, cross-cultural competency, and racism," including a mandatory ethics course instructing students that they have an obligation to fight "racism in the law." Schools would also be required to "take effective actions" to "diversify" their student bodies—even when doing so risks violating a law that "purports to prohibit consideration of" race or ethnicity.

The proposal has sparked fierce blowback from legal scholars across the country, including 10 emeritus professors at Yale Law School, who called it a "problematic" and "disturbing" attempt to "institutionalize dogma" through the accreditation process. Violating federal law is "not legally defensible conduct for any institution," they wrote in a public comment on the plan in June, nor is it "a legally defensible requirement by an organization certifying law schools."

Those arguments have so far fallen on deaf ears: When the plan was submitted for final review on Aug. 16, it contained all of the provisions to which the Yale professors had objected.

The American Bar Association is not the only accreditation body pushing progressivism. Many of the accreditors for private secondary schools require their members to integrate social justice into every aspect of their curricula, centralizing pedagogical power in the hands of bureaucrats rather than teachers. That's diminished the autonomy of schools as well as families, who increasingly struggle to find institutions that are both well-credentialed and open-minded.

Few accreditors, however, are as influential as the American Bar Association. There are fewer than 250 law schools in the United States, and 199 of them are accredited by the association. In most states, attending an ABA-accredited school is a prerequisite for taking the bar exam. So when the association sets standards for law schools, it is effectively setting them for the entire legal system: corporate lawyers, criminal prosecutors, state judges, and Supreme Court justices will all be educated in whatever ideology the association dictates—even if it is indifferent to the rule of law itself.

The proposed standards would institutionalize that indifference throughout legal academia. Laws prohibiting schools from considering race in admissions are "not a justification for a school's non-compliance" with the diversity requirement, one standard reads. According to the Yale professors, "It would appear that [this language] instructs schools to risk violating state or federal law in order to retain certification." Though the plan does tell schools to pursue diversity "by means other than those prohibited," it never specifies what those means are, an omission the Yale professors say could encourage legally dubious activities.

This mechanistic view of humanity was not without its skeptics. “The psychological premise of human manipulability,” Hannah Arendt wrote, “has become one of the chief wares that are sold on the market of common and learned opinion.” To her point, Eisenhower, who carried 442 electoral votes in 1952, would have likely won even if he hadn’t spent a dime on TV.

US Antitrust Enforcers File New Monopoly Case Against Facebook

US regulators Thursday refiled a lawsuit accusing Facebook of maintaining an illegal monopoly in social networking, two months after the case was dismissed by a judge.

In the amended complaint, the Federal Trade Commission said Facebook's dominance "is protected by high barriers to entry," and that "even an entrant with a superior product cannot succeed against the overwhelming network effects enjoyed by an incumbent personal social network."

The lawsuit filed in federal court in the US capital said Facebook used "anticompetitive acquisitions" to protect its dominance including of the image-centric social platform Instagram and the messaging service WhatsApp.

FTC officials said the deals amounted to "illegal buy-or-bury" schemes.

"Facebook lacked the business acumen and technical talent to survive the transition to mobile. After failing to compete with new innovators, Facebook illegally bought or buried them when their popularity became an existential threat," said acting FTC competition bureau chief Holly Vedova.

"This conduct is no less anticompetitive than if Facebook had bribed emerging app competitors not to compete… The FTC's action today seeks to put an end to this illegal activity and restore competition for the benefit of Americans and honest businesses alike."

Facebook, which has long denied it maintains a monopoly, said in a statement: "We are reviewing the FTC's amended complaint and will have more to say soon."

In June, US District Judge James Boasberg said in a 53-page opinion that the agency's initial lawsuit lacked evidence, notably in defining the market that Facebook was allegedly monopolizing.

The federal agency based its case on a "vague" assertion that Facebook controlled more than 60 percent of the social networking market, but the FTC "does not even allege what it is measuring," according to the judge's June 28 ruling, which allowed the agency an opportunity to refile the case on different grounds.

Three senators announce positive COVID-19 tests in single day

Three senators announced within hours of each other on Thursday that they had tested positive for the coronavirus, despite each being fully vaccinated.

Sens. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Angus King (I-Maine) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) said they had tested positive in what is known as a breakthrough case, when fully vaccinated individuals test positive for COVID-19. It marks three known breakthrough cases among senators within 24 hours.

The positive tests come as senators have been back in their home states for roughly a week and aren't expected to return to Washington, D.C., until mid-September.

Hickenlooper became the latest on Thursday afternoon to announce he had tested positive, saying he tested positive after "experiencing mild symptoms."

"I’m feeling much better and will continue to isolate at the direction of the Congressional Attending Physician," he said

Though Hickenlooper announced his positive test Thursday, his statement didn't specify when he tested positive. Spokespeople for the senator didn't immediately respond to a question about when he got tested.

Both Wicker and King — the Senate's second and third breakthrough cases, respectively, after Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.) positive test earlier this month — said they tested positive after experiencing symptoms.

King, in his statement, said that while he and his staff took precautions to social distance while in D.C., that he began "feeling mildly feverish" on Wednesday and got tested in Maine on Thursday.

"It came back positive. While I am not feeling great, I’m definitely feeling much better than I would have without the vaccine. I am taking this diagnosis very seriously, quarantining myself at home and telling the few people I’ve been in contact with to get tested in order to limit any further spread," King said in a statement.

Phillip Waller, a spokesperson for Wicker, added that the Mississippi Republican tested positive on Thursday, and that he got tested because he was experiencing "mild symptoms."

"Senator Wicker is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, is in good health, and is being treated by his Tupelo-based physician. He is isolating, and everyone with whom Senator Wicker has come in close contact recently has been notified," he said.

The Chinese are notorious for targeting and buying off “(Members of) the Media, key influencers, and opinion leaders” to “effectively disseminate a positive message” about Communism and the CCP. As part of the process, American journalists and lawmakers are given free trips by CUSEF in exchange for their support and “favorable coverage.”

National Pulse listed some of the the sellouts who were confirmed to have made 2 of the trips:

Participants included New Castle County Delaware Executive Matt Meyers, Georgia State Representative Scott Holcomb, Mayor of Dallas, Texas Eric Johnson, Mayor of Lincoln, Nebraska Leirion Gaylor Baird, and former Utah representative Ben McAdams.

A separate CUSEF-sponsored delegation took place in 2018, counting participation from several NewDEAL leaders including former Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes.

The current and former members of ‘NewDEAL Leaders’ are made up of some of the most influential political voices on the left, including several who have been instrumental in suppressing election integrity efforts surrounding the stolen 2020 election.
